Immediately Regretting Starting My Van Build In Winter

- Van life conversions can be tricky, especially in the winter. I learned this the hard way! In this episode, I share my experience starting my van build so I can keep exploring the great outdoors. Let's see if I can make it happen despite the cold!
#adventure #vanlifeuk #winter
Woohoo - just got in from a run you inspired, and here's another video already. Rounds off a cracking day. :^)
1:11 looks like you've got some canny googly eyes in the back of the van. 👀
@@mrmdgower mate I’m so glad to hear that, this is why I make the videos ✌️❤️ haha I just noticed the googly eyes now, I’ll never stop seeing that now 😂
hi NK love the vids you put on here, pls dont stop. all the best

Thank you! You too! ✌️
cant wait till i can do this just keeping a eye out for the right van and keep saving
@@Flung_from_space what you thinking of getting? ✌️
@@Nomadickangoo I only passed my driving test last year and am currently in a 3 door citreon pluriel not the best for camping as it has a rubbish convertable roof that leaks haha so only want a small van , berligo or kangoo , partner etc anything that has lower miles and a good mot history
@ highly recommend the kangoo ✌️
Love this, really excited for you. I started my build in the winter and the first thing I did after stripping everything out was install a diesel heater and battery, was soooo much easier after that 😊 look forward to seeing it progress 👍🏻
@@Maggiethecaddy1 sounds awesome, just gave you a follow. Look forward to your adventures

@@frameworkart3985 me too buddy!
It looks so cold there !
I've never tackled a van build myself but I'm going to try making a set of removable cupboards and cook top for my suv. I really love watching real people do these things on a budget because I can relate. I'm a can of carrots kind of person 😂
I'm really looking forward to seeing how you deck this new van out. ❤

I recommend to install a little window in the roof of the van. So you don't get mold problems this time.

Great to see you back in a kangoo😁
Only found your channel recently while prepping for my next build. I love seeing you figure things out, reminds me of when I was young and trying to solve problems.
One question though, why didn’t you make use of the garage behind you 😆
@@UnrestrictedIsle glad you found my channel! It’s not my garage and it’s full of junk the van will never fit in there unfortunately 😅
Made me laugh.. “face cream” “brush” and “coke drinking” 😂.. starting the year making a new start! 👌🙏
@@markplenty2631 This van is full of surprises 😂
My guess for the stuff in the wheel boxes went something like this:
Previous owner: asks his carpenter mate " can you build me some wheel boxes, and make them nice and solid, the last ones made such a racket?"
Carpenter mate: "of course mate I can do that, they'll be rock solid!", makes them almost impossible to take apart but puts some stuff in to make noise as a practical joke..
Previous owner: comes to collect "nice one mate they're rock solid, dont bydge at all!"
Carpenter mate: (mwah ha ha ha haaa)
@@Fromatic 😂 I think you might just be right on that one!!
May seem a daft comment, but why don't you clear some space at the front of the garage so you can back the van in a bit when working on it so you're out of the elements of the weather and you'll have some more light from inside the garage.
@@adamsher86 good question, it’s not my garage and it looks bigger than it is. Probably more effort to move everything
This is where we came in, in a way but I doubt that you will struggle as much as the 2nd build. Will you be going down the diesel heater route or burn all the panelling that you removed?😮 For the time being, just chuck some foam or a mattress in like I did when I hired a panel van years ago.
@@mmwaashumslowww7167 I think burning the wood panels for heat would be a great idea 😂
Yeah van conversion is a good idea until you start it lol Its taken me 2 years to convert my caddy maxi and still things need doing but at least I can get away in it now. Before the caddy part converted a T4. Lifted the floor to find someone previously had screwed something to the floor and made over 130 holes which you could see daylight through, spent a weekend treating and filling each one :( It will be worth it in end no matter how long it takes.
@@DarlyB what on earth did they drill to the floor for 130 holes 😅
@@Nomadickangoo There were in straight lines so can only assume some tracks or racking. I wasn't even going to lift the boarded floor but as soon as I did another job to do 😭
It will be all worth it matie
@@alansmith5063 you know it 💪
tap the remainder of the pop rivets with a hammer, you can't pull them out because they are wider at the back.

Hi do you know of anyone with a garage or shed that you can work on van in all weather? Huge difference of footage showing before and after cleaning rust. When i had my van I thought it was a screw that hard to get out, then learnt its a rivet and drill to get out.
@Sabrina-nz luckily all I have is my mothers drive way, but the weather seems to be turning decent again (decent for the UK) in the next few weeks ✌️❤️
@Nomadickangoo thats good re weather good over next few weeks👍

I always wondered what sort of person eats tinned carrots!
It’s funny, don’t think I’ve ever ate them but they’re always in the cupboard 😂
@@Nomadickangoo I was relating your story to my friend over coffee. She didn't completely glaze over. Nothing to do with tinned carrots, but just how other people's lives, struggles, successes are fascinating, but then we realised that it's what we all have in our different ways. I can't believe (I am someones granny), that I am voyeuring into someone's daily routine. Anyway, good luck on your journey - eat fresh carrots.
