Yeah dude! So I'm not the only one who feels that way haha? Hey thanks a lot for watching. Tell your friends! We are getting there but it's a slog hahaha. Dude it's a sweet bus. It's a 79 same year as me!
@@hoppycamper When I was in my youth, I got to camp for one night in a VW Micro Bus. It was an amazing experience. I know it was made in the 1950's or 1960's, it had all of the windows around the top of it. My experience was when I was in my early teens, so that would have been roughly the mid 1970's. My apologies for calling your unit a Van, I knew better than that. I don't know why I said that. Another interesting note, that huge VW chrome metal piece on the hood I still have. The reason I have it is because those were my wife to be's initials and I knew the family that owned the van. VW was her initials until I ruined everything by marrying her some 40+ years ago!
@@jonsymmonds1120 Haha super cool story man thanks for sharing! What a cool bunch of initials to have, never even met a VW, then you had to go and ruin it! haha I hope it worked out well for you and her. Don't you dare apologize, these things are called all manner of names (Samba, Kombi, Van) all the time! Glad you kept the chrome logo, I still have a white logo off a splittie from a junkyard in Georgia in the 90's, those were super cool busses with all that glass! I love seeing them, but these bay window busses are so much more useful and modern than those. But not nearly as pretty! Thanks for tuning in man!
I've had my Bus over 30 years and just learned how to fold the bed up, haha. I always reach to the center to pull it up, but yours latched and went up on its own.... I went out and tried that on mine and did the same thing. I didn't know it was designed to stick in the "taco" position to make it easier to fold. I like the wood stove idea, too. I've long considered replacing the passenger seat with a utility platform with maybe a drawer underneath. I usually go solo anyway and if I do bring company, she usually brings her own car so she can have all of her stuff.
Haha hell yeah man! I love the trick for folding the rear bench. It was a total gamechanger when I discovered it too. There was a thread on TheSamba that mentioned it, along the lines of 'I was today years old when I discovered this....' haha. That's how I learned it. Glad I could help you out! Same here with my wife, she usually brings her minivan so I don't need the seat. Keep it real and keep warm!
Love your van. I missed mine. I had a used 1970 VW camper van like yours after I got out of college. Had it for about 9 years. Took it all over Florida, down to Key West. Then later got a used 1983 Westphalia VW Camper van and took it up the east coast all the way to New England. Had that one for about 11 years. Sure miss the great styling of those vans but missed having air conditioning (I live in Florida) and both had to have a lot of maintenance on a regular basis. Good luck on your travels!
Right on! A Fellow Bus Owner! I had one in the 90's for High School and did the opposite: Went from New England to Florida following Phish around! Was such a blast, I had to get another when we needed a camper! I don't need A/C or Heat haha, just this cool vibe! Thanks for coming along and Hoppy Holidays!

Fuck yeah! I had a 79 Westy I bought for 400 bucks, put about 4k into it and camped all over the place. Sold it when I had kids. MSN do I fucking miss it, and the kids are grown now.
Sounds like you had a great time, man. You can always get another one! This is my second one, wife said we needed a camper and I knew right where to go! Both '79's. Thanks for watching!
Haha, completely original. The motor is completely bone-stock, 2000cc air cooled VW Fuel Injected just as it came from the factory. It's not numbers-matching since I rebuilt it a few years ago. It's shockingly capable in modern traffic. For the heater, I added a 70's-style in-line fan (moslty used as a blower on boats) under the cab to help pull more air up forward. But these never had much heat even new. It's largely just for defrosting the windshield and taking a bit of the edge off. I'm planning to add a diesel heater soon, stay tuned as I'll share it wtih the channel. Thanks for watching!

Appreciate It
Right on! Thanks for coming along, I appreciate it! Tell your friends and Let's keep going to the moon!
Is the VW Bus original (motor-airhose) heating decent for winter or do you need additional heaters?
VERY NICE
Right? It was a real adventure! Thanks for watching

Yeah brother, thanks a bunch glad to have you!
Hey what are those gloves, they look warm. Nothing can warm my hands unless its battery powered, maybe you have a secret.
Hey man, they're a brand called Give'r Gloves. They're great and fire resistant. They make a winter pair too that's thicker. I used a good battery-powered pair of gloves in my Scout Camp Winter Stealther, check that video out. Thanks for watching man!
