MirOwns looks like the next big battle might be Surfclam vs Lu AND Alex. I might need reinforcements. I might need to enlist the help of my former enemy turned bro, Silent Mike. Surfclam & Silence vs Lu & Alex? HMMMMMMMMM
Wearing a stringer makes me feel good about myself and motivates me more for gains. I used to be fat and had low self esteem. Happy from what ive accomplished for myself so far.
Aesthetics people are more likely to wear stringers. Powerlifters are more likely to wear a regular t shirt. (I used to power lift and now i'm physique) regular shirt in a hot gym will make you sweat, and I does NOT block off the sweat getting on the bench. Sorry thats a fact lmfao. Stringer are more breathable and if you are working on the AESTHETICS, the VISUAL art of lifting, expect to be more pumped with the mind muscle connection if you can see more of the body working while you are lifting. That's just logic. It's a confidence/mental booster. I don't judge powerlifters and they shouldn't judge physique/bodybuilders. Whatever mentally drives your mind body muscle connection is what you should wear. Opinions are opinions but you have to learn that if it's not ultimately harmful to someone physically, then let the person do what makes them happy.
To me, the equipment and apparel are just to maximize comfort as well as representing a sort of "gym uniform" that let's you and other people know that it's "that" time of the day. Another way to look at it, and this works across sports or anything, the more you invest on something, the more likely you are to keep going with it (a passion or job)band take it to another level; it's no different than a business man buying his first leather suit case/messenger bag or a basketball player buying his fresh new Kobes. Some people just really like to immerse themselves in their lifestyle. Finally, I used to be all about toys when I was young but now I traded them for gym stuff. Whenever new equipment or apparel come up, I always get excited to try them out to add to my sort of "collection". Anyway, just my 50 cents. Loved your gym btw. I'm from Chicago. I visited last Summer and came there four times despite the day pass fee. Keep it up! 👍🏽
There are 2 things that I hate seeing at the gym: 1) Stringers 2) Flip Flops The only reason these things upset me when I see them is because they are a health and safe risk to not only the people wearing them, but also to the people around them.
Not only does the exposed skin on the back and chest create a potential problem for blood and other fluids on bars and stuff, but the sweat has no layer to get absorbed into and that sweat can get into padding on benches and machines. That can cause mold depending on how much sweat the padding absorbs over time. (I know your mind is going to machines and benches getting cleaned. But, cleaning is dependent on site traffic, staffing and tools used.) Plus, you can actually get people sick by sweating on a pad and then sharing that pad with others because the fluid gets absorbed in their skin.
I was deadlifting 650x5 10 years ago in Timberland boots , Jeans and a t-shirt ...while folks who were dressed "properly" were struggling with 4 plates . I just started getting back into the weights and I lift on the run when I can at the 24 hour gym like anytime and after a month of lifting again I did 545x4 and 585x 1 in Timberland boots ...Jeans ...T-shirt ...mixed grip no silly pathetic belt ...most folks who notice how people dress in the gym are not doing much in the gym ...lol...if you got time to notice others dress code . I'll admit squats and deads could benefit from the special shoes ,but a good pair of Tims were all I was wearing doing 650x5 10 years ago no issues ,so I think most just get into the mindset they need to get dressed up just to go lift weights ,but it's not like you're moving much like in gymnastics so baggy jeans and t-shirt seem to do fine .
I usually wear a hoodie, shorts, compression shorts. Wrestling shoes if its a deadlift day. Wrestling shoes, sling shot compression cuff on bench day. Powerlift 2.0 shoes, wrist wraps, compression cuff, and knee wraps on squats
I think for me, the main reason I wear the gym apparel I do is because of the function of the clothes. On leg day and back day I wear my compression pants with short shorts just so when I dead lift and squat they do not get in my way. I found basketball shorts were too long for those movements so the compression pants still hide my body not to offend some people who might complain about the extra skin wearing these shorter shorts.. I prefer tank tops just because they are more comfortable for me instead of t-shirts where the shirt bunches around the shoulders. I know some people plan outfits to match shoes and shorts and shirt. I don't care the color or pattern, just function.
That's why I only wear Stringers on back day, since I know my back won't come in contact with anything. Makes no sense to be showing off your back if you're working legs or chest.
I wear tanks and tight t-shirts with either sweats or shorts with long socks to hide my calves. And for shoes I either wear my pumas or my Nike free runs.
Right now, just a t-shirt, shorts or sweats depending on the time of year, long athletic socks since I deadlift three times a week, and Chuck Taylor's. I will add knee sleeves, wrist wraps, and a belt in the future for my working sets, but it isn't really needed right now. Maybe I will buy some cooler t-shirts in the future that are more powerlifting themed, but unless something helps me move more weight legitimately I don't really care. Less fashion more steel.
Hi Bart, I've been watching your videos recently and i would like to ask for advice. What is a good way of shedding fat??? not just workouts but diet wise.
Basketball shorts (basicly longer shorts) tank top/T-shirt, shoes and then my knee brace cuz I have the knee of a 90 year old even tho i'm in my mid 20's.
Its not necessary but if your gonna all decked out in matching "EVERYTHING" u need to match ur performance to ur apparel. However it is NOT necessary to wear all new gear to have a good gym sesh.
the only weird thing i think i wear to the gym might be my sandals or vans on my non leg days, because i'm too lazy to use my other shoes or i don't want them to be messed up except for elg exercises.
My long sleeved 49ers polyester T-shirt with a pair of Knit shorts and somtimes a Bandana as my hair was longish. I stopped because I had Sternum Pains (Costachondritis) and It was very uncomfortable even after a few months. :( - Great Vids! -
Clothing can matter. If your new and feel our of place, self conscious you wont do as well as you could. Im not saying decked out in the latest fashion but for some people that makes them feel good. I go in just shorts and a t but understand why some where the latest trends. Its all about how comfortable and confident you feel then you can get the best that you can do
What's wrong with a properly cut cut-off? I make old shirts cut-offs because I won't wear them anywhere else... the back is covered and there is nothing rubbing against your pits when you lift... cut off shirts are perfect in my opinion :(
I wear whatever clothes I don't mind getting messed up so old clothes basketball shorts and old shirts. The only new thing I wear is the wrist wraps belts and shoes because they affect my performance those are the only things I spend money on
I think there is a difference for what you wear while working out. Sometimes I'll go to the gym with sweatpants and a hoodie, work out, and feel like I'm not really gaining as fast as I am. Or I'll go with shorts and a compression shirt, and feel like it's instantaneous and I'm getting the best work out of my life because I can see the muscle, veins and fibers, etc. I think it's a psychological thing.
Well before I quit the gym I was at, I wore anything that I felt like. I wore nike sfb's, cargo pants etc for prowler work . Which oddly got in my way when I was kicking. Most of the time I wore either lululemon gear, sinceriously gear, Fuck cancer gear sometimes I had mma gear on or just general compression gear, or a mix or whatever. This totally fucked with people hahaha. Because I don't feel I should be in anyone's box. As long as I put work in then it doesn't matter what part or role I look like.
I normally wear a t-shirts and shorts or sweats nothing special but I am trying to get legit gear to workout in so hopefully that wardrobe changes in the future
Just shorts and a regular t-shirt are all I need, maybe my bluetooth headphones. Weightlifters tend to overdue it too much, they need their virus tights, their sleeves, knee wraps, wrist wraps, & special shirts/socks. The wraps themselves are fine, but some just use them as fashion accessories.
What if someone just shows up in their work clothes? Just got off work , showed up in a suit and tie because they just need to get this workout done before they go back in or crash at home for the night. I've debated on it before, just because I get out really late and don't really have the time to dress down or grab gear but, I really want to get in a workout every day. Would you have a negative reaction to the guy who comes in, takes off his suit and tie, and just works out in his dress shirts and slacks?
just a t-shirt and a long training pants. the only thing i have if i'm like in a hour just training i get the feeling my tshirt is to heavy, thats mostly at home, and i will just go toppless, but in a gym you can not do that, is there any shirts who are verry thin for sporting, like i know the running shirts are really thin and not heavy than normal shirts.
I train in an old school powerlifting gym in RI, and the general year round attire is dirty ass jeans, work boots and a stained up ripped hoodie lol. A lot of old school Italian construction workers/landscapers. Certainly not a pretty gym.
my dad likes to hit the weights in his jeans because has said that its more comfortable and it helps him with his job. my dad, being an engineer and has to work in machine rooms that are so hot and he has to do so much heavy lifting with heavy tools. I like to wear a hoodie and shorts. once I'm done with a good workout and I take off the hoodie and under shirt I get to appreciate the gains and pump. also, hygine reasons. The hoodie is up because I like to focus and not stare at other people.
I like to wear something that will extenuate what I'm working out so that when I'm looking at myself in the mirror I feel good and look good which boosts my confidence.
i thought you were gonna hate on jeans man respect last week i worked out in jeans because i forgot my gym pants and i did not wanna drive home because the gym is far away from my house it was a litle weird because i train at a commercial gym and everybody just looked :)
I've never actually been to the gym. if I lived near the Barbell Brigade I would've bought whatever that deal was when you opened it. Maybe you could open one in Oregon if you find that you have a lot of people around here that would come in.
I wear stringers for when I bench i just find it help me place myself better as odd as it sounds. But I also wipe down every machine I use after use of them. But to be fair everyone should wipe down the machines they're using regardless if what they're wearing.
Bart, Geo, great video as always.
Lu & Alex: say that to my face and not online and see what happens. See what happens mate.
OmarIsuf POWERLIFTING BATTLE

2) Flip Flops

Isaac Lok
You know I am talking about the weight room and other workout areas.
QuestionmarkX3 add oxygen deprivation masks; jeans; excessive wraps (wrist wraps, elbow wraps, knee wraps ALL AT ONCE)
Well we might as well go naked since everyone hates on everything lol
QuestionmarkX3 I have worn flipflops 2 the gym b4 and let me tell you it feels amazing would never do it on a leg day though.

Some guy this morning came in wearing flip flops, he ended up squatting 405lbs for reps.
I wear vests and shorts when it's hot, sweatpants and t-shirts when it's not. Sometimes start out wearing a hoodie until I'm warmed up.
I usually wear a hoodie, shorts, compression shorts. Wrestling shoes if its a deadlift day. Wrestling shoes, sling shot compression cuff on bench day. Powerlift 2.0 shoes, wrist wraps, compression cuff, and knee wraps on squats

'But then I grew up' LOL'd so hard haha
I have to be wearing compression shorts even for upper body days. I have been wearing them for so long that i feel weird without them.
I wear a tank top and basketball shorts unless I'm front squatting. Then I wear a short sleeve shirt
Always gotta have my hoodie!!! Hoodie up, earphone in, world off!! TRAIN!!!
I literally wear tanks and stringers cause when I lift my arms over my head in a tee it rides up and shows off my fat belly.
Much love from the UK ! Waiting to get my barbell t 😎💪🏼
a T shirt and a normal sport shorts that's all... oh and my wrist straps ! Love Barbell Brigade so much !

Nah he aint bothering nobody, some people might be jealous that he even has a job requiring a suit

I like how in the opening shot, Geo seems spaced out because she's looking at another camera.
Shorts and T shirt are a must for me at gym .
where are the raskols at!?!
stringers are fine as long as you have the body to match it + if the sweating is minimal.
I wear compression pants for deadlift and squat days. For bench days I just rock the Air Force pt shorts and a BS shirt
Boxerrs is the best when you have your own mini gym set up at home hahah
