When I first benched 315 I immediately thought to myself...335 would be better..(Edit) just finished your video, apparently you thought the same thing lol.
With heavier weights (315+), a lot of the struggle most people feel can be neurological and\or mental block rather than a strength issue. Learning how to breathe properly ot overstraining and trusting your muscles can sometimes be more effective than switching up your routine all together.
Dude shout out to that spotter. Many spotters like to stand too close or have their hands on the bar distracting you, or at worse have headphones in and not paying attention for when you fail the set. That spotter definitely lifts and knows when to step in.
I love your humility. You feel like a a guy who would just be a really cool guy to know. I'm currently on my journey to 315 as I recently maxed out at 275 but feel I did it cleanly and could have done more. I'm 54 so I've been in this mindset that I should be on the descent but in reality I'm setting new PRs so I don't know what to think. Maybe age really is just a number. Your story is inspirational though so keep pushing and perhaps one day I'll have my own 335 lb BP story.
While I can’t speak to the veracity of the statistics, what I can say for sure is good video, well edited, and congratulations on the PR. Personal best is 410 with a pause and 420 touch and go. Keep crushing it 💪
That same thing happened to me except for all three times the spotter touched the bar. I was so pissed and left the gym. Couple days later tried again with a different spotter, more detailed instructions and hit 335.
315 separates the men from the boys. 225 is done--I won't say commonly--but not uncommonly. 315 is rare. Weeks can go by without me seeing it done, and mostly it's one rep with bad form. 405 is where things get truly real. In about twenty years of membership at my large commercial gym with thousands of members, I can count on one hand the number of guys who've benched 405...and all were juicing...
That’s still very impressive good work! I actually made a similar video to this but seeing how many people can bench 225 and I think you’d enjoy it, it’s pinned as my channel trailer :)
They appear to be haha Although this may be partly availability bias as those who can bench 315 are more likely to comment on fitness posts on instagram related to 315lbs
Nice work but, I think you fatigued yourself to much before attempting PR. i do ten reps bar only(form), 3 reps one plate, one rep two plates all with pause then PR. I think you can do MORE. Since i worry about shoulders i do complete shoulder routine prior to benching. When my PR reaches above 3.5 plates i will do one rep 315. Thats the plan that works best for me. Lock scaps, flat back, no leg drive and good pause. Clean. I know every body is different, but that just seems to be to much energy expended before trying.
babies... kids.. females... senior citizens.. people who've never work out before.. of course the numbers are going to be astronomical lol.. let's say just among Male gym goers with at least two years lifting experience, i think a 225 bench is pretty common as i see it all the time now at any local gym i go too lol.. 315 tho is still very rare..
The main issue with benching high numbers is that you have to train specifically for benching which is different than hypertrophy. Most people go to the gym for aesthetics so they don't just stick to barbell benching and do multiple pressing and fly variations to hit their chest at different angles. If you're training specifically for hypertrophy there's no reason to stick to one exercise and alternatively the best way to increase strength is to stick to one major compound movement in that area and progressively overload.
I have no idea how many people can bench 315 I think 405 is a better question 16 years old at 160 i’ve got 315 somewhat easily within three years I was at 415 at 205 bodyweight I think that’s a better question as I don’t think 315 is that unusual however I did lift at hard-core gyms and not LA fitness type old fart commercial bs
I guess my comment keeps getting deleted for the link, but anyway, these numbers are wrong there are more, a lot more recorded powerlifting benches over 315...
Perhaps you’re right, however I’ve shown what the most common consensus from online studies are and just like any topic in the world there’s always gonna be that one guy who claims there much more or less than we think but in reality in less you’ve counted by hand every person to bench 315 than I’d say 1 in 10,000 people (0.0001) is a pretty safe estimate to lean on which many online experts agree with :) You may have some availability bias which I do touch on around 2 minutes into the video 😁
@@Brenden_Albrecht there are more than 8K recorded lifts over 315 for powerlifting alone, let alone Pro/Olympic athletes around the world. 1700 NFL players currently, and 99% are repping 225 for 15+.
@@LRandleIcon if you noticed on the screen I displayed the corrected estimate “800,000” it was in big white letters, I misspoke while recording and thought it was an easy fix to put huge text over the screen correcting myself :)
@@LRandleIcon as a percentage yes you’re correct but like I said I misspoke and meant to represent .0001 as a decimal and not a percentage which as a decimal is 1 in 10,000 which is 800,000 people

I appreciate that and wow that’s crazy!
Excellent work young blood! You are absolutely right, the back and rear delts have a significant impact on the bench press.
Thank you very much!!
loves this content! Amazing! Love your physique, Keep Grinding!
Thank you! Will do!
good job men ! such an inspiration
That’s what’s up youngin keep on pushin 👊🏾💪🏽
I seen a guy 165 put up 405 he was Skinny too ! Some people are just strong 💪
Very impressive. Even more so at that bodyweight.
1:18 0.0001% is 1 in 1 million, not 1 in 10000. Also huge congrats on the pr.
1 in a million as a decimal is actually 0.000001 :) and thank you!!
Yes but it wasnt written in decimal, its written in percentage

My gym has about 10 natural guys who can do 405 I’m getting there I’m at 335 still but it’s hard to gain strength naturally
Howuch did you weigh when you hit 330? W pr man
I was 175 pounds roughly, you should check out my recent video I’m curious what you think lmk💪
Bro , you're a BEAST! Great work! You're very impressive!
Thank you so much 😀
I figured it was very low. My pr currently is 225, but I think I can do more now but even the amount of people that can do 225 is pretty low
