Daniel Chong The heavier the weight the harder it is to roll, the weights will never fling off on top of you, only to the sides away from you, you just need to control the bar thats why you rest it on you and dip one side then dip the other. Think candito had a video on it explaining it well... It's not an ideal method but it's the worst of the best
When i work out there is usually nobody else in the gym so i have to bench with no clips. if i get stuck and cant dump the weights im fucked. As long as you dont bench crooked or have fucked up bar path, benching without clips isnt that dangerous, and even if they do slide to the side unintentionally, the weight wont hit you

i saw a group of skinny teenage boys try to bench 2 plates and they were recording and doing less than half reps more like 1/4 reps with 2 spotters doing most of the work

He slowly realized that he shouldn't be there when I hit my first rep.. then moved to the side of me after I hit my 2nd , 3rd, etc. I end up finishing my set mostly for the fear of this spotter.
I don't use spotters for squats anymore, but there are several reasons to use a spotter. 1) They're paid to work there so it's not a waste of time. 2) They can make sure you hit depth on all your reps 3) A spotter can save you from failing which would reduced the strain on the CNS vs. just dumping the weight.

The dude attempted 500kg ++ leg pressing no warm up whatsoever and 1 rep later i hear a bang and a loud scream. This idiot fcked up his his back and knees so badly we had to bring him to a doctor.... Not that funny after he got hurt but still worth mentioning.
