vegan steak
1 cup butler soy curls
1 cup hot water
1 tablespoon vegan woistrshir sauce
11/2 teaspoons better than bouillon
vegetable base
sauce
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
2 teaspoon sesame seed oil
12oz water
1/4 cup soy sauce
1 tablespoon sugar
1 tablespoons cornstarch
1 teaspoon fresh grated ginger
4 cloves minced garlic
1 large onion
1 bell pepper
1teaspoon black pepper
salt to taste
serve with 4 cups of cooked rice

I stopped eating beef years ago. I tried making this recipe with chicken and its not as good. So when I saw your video I had to give it a try. I used portabella mushrooms marinaded with liquid smoke, vegan worcestershire sauce and steak seasoning. Oh how I miss this dish. this came out soooo good. Will definitely make it again. Thanks for helping bring back a favorite without having to compromise.

I've never had portabella mushrooms before. Do they have a flavor? What was the texture of it when you used it for your meal?
I made this tonight, the ONLY thing I did different is add some red pepper flakes and more black pepper. Going in the permanent rotation! This was crazy good! Thanks Fly Vegan! New sub here and I can't wait to try your other recipes!
Another great recipe to try! 🫑🧄🙂 Edit: Tried it tonight. Really good. Watch out not to over-salt - for sauce I used only 2 1/2 Tb soy sauce & no extra salt. A few pineapple chunks or mushrooms would be good addition. Thank you for another wonderful dinner idea!🙂

@@Alexis_M777 Sorry for the late reply. I was impressed. Soy curls work a lot like TVP in that they absorb whatever flavor of liquid they are rehydrated in.
Just made this. Actually, I'm eating while I post this comment. This is an absolutely awesome dish!!! Before I became a vegan, this is what I always ordered whenever I ate at an Asian restaurant. I thought I had to give it up forever. Thanks to you, I can now enjoy one of my favorite dishes again. The recipe is simple, delicious, and definitely hits the spot. Thank you. This is a great recipe. I would caution people that don’t like really spicy food, to add the pepper to your individual plate of food based, on your preference. 🙂

I bought them from Amazon. Their not like seitan.....they come dry and you have to rehydrate them with water or broth.

Better Than Bouillon also makes bouillon with animal ingredients. Be careful to read & Select the vegan versions - No Chicken, Vegetable etc. Good Luck!
Looks delicious but what does soy curd taste like ?
Soy curls will taste like whatever you season it to taste like. In this case, it should taste like beef. They're just dehydrated soy beans.

Could seitan be used instead?
Of course you can use Seitan , another reader used marinated mushrooms, maybe try Jackfruit also!
I noticed that alot of vegan recipes call for soy sauce. Is there any such thing as no salt soy sauce or extremely low sodium? I am trying to limit the my sodium intake.
I don’t know if you even found an answer to your question, but I heard you can use low sodium soy sauce, you might also want to use tamari which is basically a gluten free version of soy sauce, or if you want to avoid soy altogether, you can use coconut aminos. However coconut aminos are naturally a bit sweet so you shouldn’t use too much or it’ll make your dish kind of sweet.
