I am from The Northern US and worked inTulsa from 1999-2000-ish. I am not a conservative but that was never an issue with friends or co-workers. My impression was of a city that was low-key, a very quiet downtown (it seemed more like a place to work only), friendly people - I had no trouble making friends. I also noticed that about half of the people I met had moved there from other states.

We visited Tulsa many times and we like it. Tulsa residents are cordial and keep to themselves when they see and recognize Californians.
My wife wanted to check out north Tulsa because she couldn’t believe all the horrible things we heard about N Tulsa. I was hesitant to take her but she is a kind woman and believes in the good of all people. So we drove North and it was like night and day, I don’t remember where north we were but there were graffitis everywhere, old abandoned, dilapidated buildings, and people on the streets looking like territorial gangs and unpleasant activities. My wife demanded I turned the car around because she felt scare for our safety.
Despite the North, weather, and MJ, we love the cost of living and we share the same religious and political views as Tulsa. We haven’t ruled out Tulsa.

I've been here four months from Austin and I like it. It's a smaller and quieter version of the same type of town. I wish downtown wasn't so dead though. I like riding my bike there but get pretty bummed out only seeing a handful of people people walking around. I read back in the day it was much more active. Though the downtown has a good core and I can see developers swooping in to cash in on the urban living trend sweeping the country, unless covid has put a stop to that.

Tulsa crime ain't as bad as Portland Oregon especially homicides and rioting... Jeez the crime really spiked up ever since the defunding of law enforcement. 22 yrs ago Portland was a gem... Now? Not even worth living here too expensive and there's a lot of tensions here. I am pretty much a conservative God, family and country. None existent in this town. I have been eyeing Tulsa or Alaska. Not so sure what my next adventure will be but, I can guarantee you I will make the right decision. Anyways thanx for the heads up!

He left out that Tulsa Oklahoma had the Worst Race Massacre in the US in 1921 and the leaders were really good at covering it up, so good it did not get mentioned in a history book until 2021! Tulsa also refuses today as of May 30,2021 to pay reparations to any black people whose family was murdered by a group of racist and for whose homes were bombed and burned down in an area of Tulsa called Black Wall Street during the race massacre and still does not know where all those black ancestors were buried. The State of Oklahoma ranks Number 1 for female and Male Incarceration'. Tulsa has a fairly high poverty level. Oklahoma passed a law that seems to makes it where teachers cannot tell students about the racism in Oklahoma or anywhere under HB 1775. The founder of Tulsa Tate Brady was a member of the KKK and invited his friend who was a Grand Wizard of the KKK to Tulsa right before the Race Massacre and the GOP Mayor in 2012 did not want to remove the Brady street sign. What was said about other Republicans calling the current Mayor a democrat is true, sadly. The museums are beautiful. If you don't support racism and you support giving Reparations to blacks who were murdered and whose homes were destroyed like Florida chose to do for victims of the Rosewood Massacre and are GOP then Tulsa or anywhere in Oklahoma might not be the place to choose to live. If you are black and concerned about police shooting you in the back with your arms in the air like was done to Terrence Crutcher and the officer got off when it was on film you might reconsider coming to Tulsa. imo. Governor Stitt also passed a law you can run over a protester and kill them and you won't be charged with a crime. especially if you are protesting the killing of George Floyd and have a BLM sign. imo. Welcome to Oklahoma. If you are rich there are some beautiful areas to live in.

Our family has lived in the small town/rural area about an hour east of okc most of our lives. Growing up, I learned about the Tulsa Massacre from my dad. It was mentioned here and there as Tulsa Riots but my dad said it years ago (I'm in my 50's), "It was a massacre." All that to say, not everyone buys what the media sells. I'm so thankful I didn't grow up in a prejudiced home. The old saying 'only believe half what you see and none of what you hear' is still very true!
