    This is exactly why we watch you and other retirees. All these financial planners that aren’t living it are missing the reality of it. Appreciate what you do! We are like you said knocking out the big stuff and going to over safe just in case, then live it!

    • @retirementcorner
      @retirementcorner  4 місяці тому +1

      Exactly how we did it. The big stuff really is the majority of retirement and it helps when and if the unknowns happen. Figuring for our expenses we rounded up to the nearest thousand and added 10% for mistakes.$2700 went to $3k and 10% made it $3300. Gives us a buffer for the what if's of life. Wanted $4k/mnth bring home ended up with around $3900/mnth so we still have a buffer there. Better to error on the safe side. Protects you while your building and learning your new life and gives you room to adjust if need be. When you retire it really becomes all about learning, adjusting and figuring things out. My thoughts anyway. Take care. Steve

      Life in retirement was a total mystery before I retired. Since I've retired I've learned it's nowhere near as bad as all the horror stories I heard. You learn, adjust and figure things out just like you always have. You probably will be just fine and love it. Take care and enjoy it. Steve

    Got a text from both kids, much like other aspects of my life, it was a simple act on their part but made my day. It’s took me 55 years to learn it’s the little things that bring us joy. Thanks for sharing your perspective on retirement and life from one common man to another.

    • @retirementcorner
      @retirementcorner  4 місяці тому +1

      I've thought the same way a lot lately. Just a shame we don't realize it till we're older. One thing about retirement is it gives you time to reminisce about all the simple things that brought us joy over the years. The big things tend to be easy but they were few and far between. The little small moments are plentiful. Take care. Steve

    I know I probably missed a few things in my planning, but I am OK with it. In 10 more days I can start looking out for the unknown or unplanned, then I will chuckle when I figure em out. No sweat. Every day feels like Father's Day to me.

      I know we made a few small mistakes but they haven't made a difference to our life in retirement. The unknowns/unplanned we'll just have to figure out if and when they happen. It's really not more complicated than that. Great comment. Thanks. Steve

    My misses were not including enough contingency for unexpected expenses. I thought I had all bases covered but my initial budget was too low. Over the past year I've had to increase a number of buckets. All good though as I find ways to supplement income.

      That's the thing about the unknowns/unexpecteds of retirement. You just can't ever be sure about them till they happen. Then it's too late. There is just no way "Regular Steve's"can plan or prepare for all the possibilities that can happen in retirement. About all I could do is take care of the major parts and do the best I can if and when an unexpected pops up. Just didn't have enough money to cover everything. By doing that it helps with the unexpecteds. Just like my little medical thing that happened. No way I could have ever known it would happen. By taking care of the major health insurance part it helped when it did happen. Sounds like you figured it out and handling it. Shows how good your retirement planning was. Doing the best you can to prepare and figuring the rest out. Good for you. Take care. Steve

    Happy Belated Father's Day. My retirement date at the end of the month is getting close. I'm getting nervous but I've done everything on my end I can do. We have no debt (knock on wood), the house is paid off, and I'm planning on taking it one day at a time. We've always lived frugally during our working years, so I don't see that changing too much in retirement. Take care.

    Just curious, why did you move your ss to 68 from 67? Did you run your numbers on some software plan?

    • @retirementcorner
      @retirementcorner  4 місяці тому

      Just because of our birthdays. I'll be 67 on Jan. 22 2033 Connie on the 11 of Sept. the same year. I figured come my birthday we will have already gotten our money for the year so why not wait and file together. Start the new year off with both of us on SS. Just saves the hassle of doing it twice in a nine month span. We have the means to wait a few months plus we'll get a few more dollars per month. Just for the convenience. Never checked the numbers till just now. It actually does make a difference of positive 3%. Doesn't really matter I'm in the mid 90's or more either way. Thanks. Steve

  • @52CA

    I’ve got little over 5 yrs till SS. Till then I’ve essentially got zero income. But I only have to make it to 67. After that assuming I stay out of debt there can be no way to fail. Once you have a source or sources of income you can’t be fired from, ie SS or pension or both, there is just no way to fail. And in our case SS will be more than we’ve ever had to live on our whole lives. It will be party time then.

      True. You don''t really need an expert to retire. People have been retiring for decades without one. Same as having babies on their own. Their knowledge and experience can be helpful though. For me it was a big help in my ability to retire. Just made it so much easier. Expenses play a major roll also. Great comment. Thanks and take care. Steve
