@DIFFERI I have a 2008 audi quattro A8L 4.2l v8 with 114000 miles, and it definitely needs this done . Do you have to remove the engine, or can it be done by just removing the transmission ????

Notice the two pins he has put into the cam gears while disassembling. If those pins are in their hole as well as the special locking pin for the crankshaft that gets screwed into the oilpan if the crank is in the right position. If all those are in the camshafts as well as the crankshaft are in exactly the right position. Their should also be a pin for the balance shaft. And while the pins in the camshaft hold them exactly in position, you can still slightly turn the camshaft gears on the cams before tightening their bolts down as they have bolt slots instead of holes. So when reassembling. Put on the cam gears first with their respective bolts but leave the bolts untightend by about half a turn. (Same for the balance shaft), put the chains, guide bars and tensioners on. Release the tensioners. Make sure everything sits right and only then tighten the camgear bolts to the proper spec. The special pins to lock the shafts are available in rather cheap kits. Bought mine on ebay for about 80€. Cause the original VW tools will easily cost the same for a single part of the toolkit you need for this engine and they are not available in kits as far as I know.
No a8 on kõige hullem variant 4.2tdi puhul. Kui Q7 olen 1,5h mootori maha võtnud, siis a8 läheb päev umbes mootori maha võtmisega. C7 3.0tdi ketivahetus läheb kiiremini.

You have to remove the engine. There is otherwise no space to do this. I don´t know if you can only remove the transmission too.
