The reason there’s no border between Canada and the US is because most Canadians are better off staying here than going to the US. That isn’t the case for Mexico though.
I find it insane that people say a wall is ineffective. Unless you're a ghost then it'll definitely stop or slow down illegal crossings. Everyone who disagrees should leave their front door wide open. Tell me the results.
A large majority of illegal immigrants don’t enter by sneaking past the border. They come here legally, with temporary work visas that last a few years, then stay after it has expired. Everyone knows this, Trump said it as well. The wall itself is more symbolic than it is practical. Whether or not people agree with the symbolic statement it’s making, is up to the individual
Hundreds of Thousands of Canadians crossing into US ? Maybe in another dimension ... Not on earth ... If it had happened the same Wall would have been built there .......
Niagara is not the only point of crossing. My Grandmother lives near the border to Vermont. We used to take walks on foot through the woods crossing the border to go do some light shopping.

The wall trump wanted to build was blocked by the house of reps on the grounds of expenses. The actual wall prototypes were actual walls, but again, expensive.
I didn’t see it mentioned in this video but there’s a huge biological issue happening at the border with animal migration routes. This new build has changed everything. I grew up in Tucson and I always remember there being a wall just not to this extent. Food for thought!

It's amazing how the debate has shifted from anti and pro-immigration to anti and pro illegal immigration. Just because you're pro immigration doesn't mean you should let everyone enter unregulated...
I don't think most people are pro illegal immigration, by that I mean okay with having no immigration policies. People are anti against what they view as inhumane, unsustainable, or ineffective treatment of illegal immigrants. Also the immigration policy in the U.S. is highly restrictive often hurting people who genuinely want to immigrate legal or employ legal immigrants. It's like what that last guy said, America has a huge appetite for cheap labor that many of these illegal immigrants are satisfying. They are just trying to escape poverty or in some cases violence in their home country. Can you blame them? The law is always flexible. It's never black and white. If that was the case any time you committed a crime everyone would always get punished by the same sentence. In reality, the justice system is a complicated mesh of appeals, reduced sentences, parole etc. This is because we acknowledge that human circumstances are unique and there can always be extenuating circumstances..... Why don't people view immigration law the same way? It's different for each person, it's never that black and white.
@@shinmyung92 honestly it just reflects how divided America is between parties, is more illegal immigrants were given the path to citizenship, then the demand for cheap labor would be satiated, and if all the illegal immigrants are stopped from coming, it'll create a hole in our economy because regular Americans simply won't do the jobs immigrants would, so in our division were really just stuck in a loop
@@shinmyung92 From what I gather, people mostly object to detaining and deporting illegal immigrants, ie enforcement. So the only other option is to passively prevent people from crossing the border illegally in the first place, but they are against that as well. I'm not saying the border wall is going to be 100% effective, but it's better than nothing. Regrading your last paragraph, deportation is the minimum. If you're not going to deport illegal immigrants you're essentially letting everyone in.
@@shinmyung92 i do understand the part about ethics, but the problem is that the people only focuses on the ethics of the matter, and not much more. And that in society, governance, and life itself its considered short sighted to only focus on a single issue. Especially when said issue is "ethics" which nowadays seems to follow what is trending. But no economy is able to handle a constant in flux of "cheap labour". Not only are there national security concerns coming from rampant illegal immigration, the debt ridden country cant sustain handing welfare benefits to any random smuck who comes into country. And all of this is to blatantly ignore the inhumane methods by which some people are being smuggled/brought in. Which ironically direct goes against the "ethics" that people are supposedly fighting for.

It causes complications and expenses for those attempting, though. No physical deterrent will ever be 100% effective but that doesn't mean it doesn't significantly complicate smuggling efforts. Consider it this way, you lock your door every night right? Well locks can be picked, windows can be broken, doors can be removed. Can someone explain to me why people are upset about the wall? The US had problems with illegal immigrants from Mexico, so it ultimately solves this. Are people encouraging trespassing border? You can enter the country, just do it legally.
You can't treat your neighbors like this. Maybe we should've invested all the money and resources spent on walls and stupid wars to make 🇲🇽 a better place for living?
You don’t understand that some people seeking illegal entry into the US are in desperate situations. The main issue is that many people are fleeing from violence and poverty in Mexico since that it’s one of a few catastrophic places to be in and are looking for a better life, not a way of encouraging it. Building a wall does NOT necessarily solve the issue with illegal immigrants it does the opposite for not welcoming visitors and approves discrimination. The US has legal procedures for legal immigration, and many immigrants enter the country legally. Additionally, there are alternative routes for illegal immigration into the US, such as through air or sea routes. Instead of focusing on enforcement-centric approaches, addressing the root causes of illegal immigration such as poverty and violence in the migrants' home countries could be a more effective strategy in addressing the problem. It's also important to note that immigration to the US has both positive and negative effects on the economy, so it isn’t as simple as you mentioned.
@@epicguy7479 “people seeking illegal entry are in desperate situations” - how is this a US problem? “Building a wall does not necessarily solve the issue” - as we can see, it greatly reduces it. “Additionally, there are alternative routes” - so? 2 routes is better than 3 routes. “Addressing poverty and violence in immigrants’ home countries” - again, how is this a US problem? “Instead of enforcement-centric approaches” - so what you’re suggesting isn’t enforcement-centric? Meddling with another countries’ domestic affairs? I’m not a military expert, but defending a wall seems WAY more safe than invading and policing citizens of another country. It’s obvious that the government values US citizens’ lives more than foreigners’. “Immigration to the US has both positive and negative sides”, yeah, LEGAL immigration. In case of illegal immigration the negative clearly outweighs the positive, otherwise the would be no need for the wall in the first place
We did this. We created the economic situation in Mexico that eradicated farmers and gave their business to Monsanto. Those Mexican farmers were 4th & 6th generation, too.

But if I (a US citizen) went to Canada, France, Germany, Cuba, or literally any other country in the world, I would be deported immediately or thrown in prison. You can't live in other countries without a work visa, refugee status or citizenship. People vacation in the USA and other parts of the world all the time, sure. But I don't understand how you can have family in two countries without dual citizenship. And people will do anything, anything to protect non-citizens. I just don't get it.
I think the guy at 8:57 put it well. The problem is in public perception and policy enforcement. Fear mongering in politics has painted migrants to be criminals seeking to freeload off of American prosperity, when the reality is that migrants could actually fulfill American demand for cheap labor. Poor policy enforcement has forced migrants to enter the US illegally or literally die trying. And for true asylum seekers facing imminent death if they were to stay in their home countries, the current system is atrocious.
I want a stronger border. I want documentation of what crosses, but I also want is easier to go through the legal way. I want it easier to become a citizen. I will not bow down to the drug cartels, the slave traders, and the just evil people. I want the immigrants to be under the protection of the American people, not will of the smugglers who get profit by abusing the immigrants. I want a border where people don’t abuse immigrant benefits by being the third party to communicate. I don’t want this wall to prevent immigration, just to make it safer to cross. When you focus on the what you forget to address the why. If we want to stop mass migration to our southern border, perhaps we should work to fix the countries we helped to destroy which in turn drives the refugees here. When you break a pipe, you don't build a levee, you fix the pipe.
...that's like saying instead of building dams and levees on a river, you should just plant more trees upstream.
No, one does not preclude the other. Trying to re-stabilize countries politically is too slow and difficult of a task to solve the problem by itself. In the meantime, unregulated refugee crises always lead to serious social issues.
There are more humane ways to fix this than just preventing all migration outright, but trying to prevent a refugee crisis at its source? That's a long-term policy goal, not a real solution.

Don't worry you're also paying taxes for critical race theory, fat people, lazy clowns that don't wanna work etc etc
Don’t worry you’ll also get to pay for everyone’s college debt soon. 🤣
Trump 2024!!! Finish the wall, protect the borders, save the pets!
Bruh, Joe said he will not have a wall in his administration, the fact that his new act contradict with his statement is pretty ironic to the point he continues Trump's wall.
A good, and stable country needs proper border security. Hell, if he's continuing the wall, then he's less senile than I first thought. How about that.
@@halalchoppa, is someone gonna do anything about the tunnels thru which these monsters smuggle drugs and humans? The last one did nothing about it.
Ah yes Douglas Arizona, my home town whole family was born there I was born in Tucson but I grew up most of my life in Douglas but it used to be a busy town before all of that we had mines factory’s and a lot down there the next town 20 minutes away was a gold mine so we had a lot of people coming and going. My grandmother was illegal in fact but when she married my grandfather she became legal but Douglas isn’t what it used to be.
changed as in more Hispanic people, or changed as in people becoming more racist
@@big_bird8597 Mines closing?
'' it always amazes me that we haven't learned a lot. The world is too small to fix a problem by building fence.. ''
@@BadDictator The people crossing are poor and desperate. The places they come from often have no opportunity for economic advancement, so they risk their lives in search of a better future. Getting a green card is notoriously difficult; it's a privilege only the rich and connected can afford. I'm not saying this to excuse breaking the law, but to understand their P.O.V.
its not about fixing the problem, but about containing ansd better contolling it
Trump gained insightful inspiration from Israel and West/East Germany. And we all know how those turned out.
@@Fursten You seriously comparing Mexico border wall to the Berlin wall?
@@Fursten your comment and logic makes no sense lol, you can only compare DDR wall to the N. Korean, and West bank could some kind of comparison and it had tremendously reduced Hamas terrorist attacks and smuggling
Crime across the border will reduce drastically with any if these 2 measures:
1. Regularization of narcotics in America, like the way we do with cigarettes and alcohol.
2. Stop consuming narcotics
It is not America's apettite for cheap labor, it is we are short labor, Americans most reproduce at rate of 3 kids for each couple, we are failing on that topic, even if we start now, we most wait 2 decades to start using that work force, also we have to tell those new workers that they should be working in fields growing produce, cleaning services, restaurants and every single low pay job, because we conceived them to fill all those jobs that our economy needs, in my case I do not conceive kids with that purpose in America.
Some of us don't wanna live in the world's biggest gated community! the US has 2 million inmates soon it will be over 300 million But 298 million won't realize it
Lmao
Well, there's about 3 to 4 billion people in the world, me included, that'd would rather live in the US than our countries. Are you ready to host?
@@EK4B16A2 Yeah! We've had open borders our entire history Or did you think everybody here is a descendant of the pilgrims? And 3 or 4 billion could just walk through the Canadian side there only putting a wall up on the Mexicans lol go figure
@@randlemcmurphy4594 cuz there's no problems with illegal migrants from Canada. The wall protects south border from invasion of migrants
not to mention, one of the most racist country. At face value, US is an ideal country to live in. Diverse culture, ivy leagues, more jobs etc. But that's only it, systematic racism, police brutality, rich - poor gap, student, house and credit debt, no access to free healthcare. US is not the only country that has diverse culture, great schools and opportunity. And many people can see that.
Meanwhile I grew up next to the iron curtain dividing Europe in two half’s! It still amazes we how easily you can work and live and travel everywhere in Europe
Europ doesn’t want people from Africa
*In the European Union
Kind of a huge detail. Try going working in Belerus lol. Not that you would ever want to though.
@Yuri Nameem your sick if you agree
Yeah but in Europe you’re countries sometimes are smaller than provinces and states here in North America so it’s understandable it’s nothing truly amazing
I live in Canada there's no reason to cross into the US and risk getting arrested but the trick is to do it when it's cloudy Canadian and American satellite can't pick you up if it's cloudy. I suppose Americans near the Canadian border have the same idea
A fence might not fix everything but it helps many things.
Well in this case what does it fix?
It can hurt many more.
Not in this case. It's done a lot of harm, especially to the ecosystems it's disrupted, and next to nothing that one could objectively call good.
We love Mexicans Gringos and Mexican Americans.
But the law is the law.
For all of us
Whatever your stance is on the border wall, you have to admit it’s a very complicated issue
The water tanks… bless that mans heart
i love these ranchers who start talking about 4th generation this, and 3rd generation that. The reality is these ranchers don't want to pay for their herd to graze on taxpayers land. That is not freedom, that is not paying your bills, especially when the bill is paid to the American taxpayer.
people install fences in their backyards to prevent things as simple as their animals escaping, but somehow installing a barrier across the border that would provide additional security is a bad idea. I can't see how anyone could actually have that perspective.
because building and maintaining a wall across an entire continent is likely to waste more resources and more ecological problems than it solves.
Just build a DMZ!
