- Hungarian foods you must try in Budapest are Hungarian sausages, Dobos (Hungarian cake), Lángos (fried Hungarian bread), Túró Rudi (curd snack), Rose-shaped gelato, Goulash, Pálinka (fruit brandy), and Paprika Chicken with Nokedli (Hungarian dumplings).
🌭 Hungarian sausage (Kolbász)
Central Market Hall is a great place to try Hungarian sausages. The sausages are seasoned with paprika and served with a side of sweet mustard.
🍰 Hungarian cake (Dobos)
Auguszt Cukrászda Belváros is the bakery to go to try the delicious Hungarian sponge cake with chocolate buttercream. The cake is topped with hard caramel.
🍕 Lángos (fried Hungarian bread)
Retró Lángos is the place to go to try the popular Hungarian street food lángos. It can be described as a Hungarian pizza. The most traditional topping for lángos is cheese and sour cream.
🍫 Curd snack (Túró Rudi)
These popular Hungarian snacks have a chocolate-flavored outer shell and on the inside it is filled with curd and jam. We tried the strawberry and peach.
🍨 Rose-shaped gelato
Gelarto Rosa serves rose-shaped gelato. They have unique flavors and make the prettiest gelato.
🍲 Goulash
Street Food Karavan is a food area in Budapest filled with street food vendors. We went to Goulash Station to try goulash in a bread bowl. Goulash is a soup or stew that contains meat and vegetables.
🥃 Hungarian pálinka
Szimpla Kert is a famous ruin bar in Budapest. We went there to try Hungarian pálinka. Pálinka is a fruit brandy. We also tried a nice Hungarian red wine.
🍗 Paprika Chicken (Paprikás Csirke)
Barack és Szilva is a great restaurant to try the popular Hungarian paprika chicken. The chicken comes in a creamy sauce that is seasoned with paprika.
🥟 Nokedli (Hungarian dumplings)
Our paprika chicken came with a side dish of Hungarian dumplings called nokedli.

If you eat sausage any other time, eat with mustard with fresh bread and pickles, or sauerkraut ;)
@@P.B0209 Thanks for the recommendation. The sausage in Hungary was so yummy!
@@OneWayTicketAliHolly I know I almost eating this every day :)
Traveling there for 4 days and this is extremely helpful. Thank you for making this video!
@@rde6519 You’re welcome! Enjoy your trip.
"Egészségedre!" I lived in Hungary from 1980 until 1986. University of Economics. Best time of my life.
That’s great! Do you have plans to go back to visit?
@@OneWayTicketAliHolly yess i of course! Can you send me for comment, and i tell you Best plans! I live in 30 years for Hungary ;)
My granny made the best Dobos torta ever. It had 11 layer and the 12th was the hard caramel topping. She always made it for my birthday :)
made chicken papricosh last week, my dad is from hungary came to us in 1956.
Yummy! That was Ali's favorite dish when we were in Hungary.
Yes, paprikás :) It is one of my fav foods as Hungarian :) With nokedli of course!
My mum makes Dobos every Xmas and has done most of my life! Its a family tradition. I like it with my first cup of tea on Boxing Day morning!
That’s such a nice tradition.
Langos is the first thing im getting when i go back to Buda this summer
My mouth is positively watering! I could live forever in the Central Market Hall.
The Central Market Hall is great!
I am Hungarian and I live in Budapest. I am glad that I found a video in which foreigners really eat Hungarian food. There are many restaurants that are designed more for foreigners and not so for hungarian food. :)
Fully agree. As a Scot married to a Hungarian who's spent a lot of time in your beautiful country, it's great to see some authenticity with just the loveliest old school food..
For me, lángos. That's the one. That and bean goulasch over a wood fire (apologies for the spelling), and the Paprika chicken. And, and and...
Do you have any recommendations for authentic Hungarian food restaurants, and generally for affordable quality food?💕
hey, i was recently in budapest, do u know what happened to the market? :D they switched it with a fkin spar..
Thanks for mentioning the cost of the food items.
3300 Forint is way more than 2,40 €…🤓
As a Hungarian, all I can say: you guys nailed it. Hope you come back
Thank you
Good thing I'm eating while watching your videos! Everything looks so goooood and yummy!! 😂 Thanks for the informative video. I can't wait to visit Budapest!
We’re so glad you enjoyed the video. We hope you have a wonderful time when you visit Budapest. 😀
Okay now we are hungry 🤤 chicken paprikas his one of my favorite dishes in Hungary! Loved this tour of the central market-so much good looking food there and at the restaurants! All the layers on that dobos look incredible. Great share guys! New to your channel and looking forward to more!
Chicken paprika is so yummy! It is Ali's favorite dish in Hungary also. We're so glad you liked the food tour. Thanks for taking the time to leave us a comment. We really appreciate it.
Exceptional video! We added all the places you went on our list for the next trip to Hungary! Thank you so much, we really appreciate your work guys!
Thank you! That’s so nice. I hope you enjoy your trip to Hungary.
Just as little add on to really iconic Hungarian foods, there is a particular version of "lángos" which is so unique and specific, that not very much people know that it exists. It is called "Parasztlángos" (Peasant fire-bread) or "Kemencse lángos" - it is sort of pizza like food best served with pieces of "kolbász", sliced onion, garlic and greaves and came in two forms - squared in a baking tray or made in outdoor furnace just like any traditional pizza. It is also called - Langallo (Hungarian Pizza) and it is dope.
As a second very traditional Hungarian dishes not mentioned - "Halászlé" - and it is a fish soup and it really varies by the region where it was cooked. It came in many forms. From traditional soup like form more sparse with bigger pieces of fish meat up to very densely creamy sauce like form, which is made from very finely mixed fish meat slowly cooked to acquire the necessary density. And when done right it is sheer goodness.
And for red wines I really recommend the one particular from Eger region called "Egri Bikavér" (Bull blood from Eger), by my opinion as a person who really not like wine the best red wine ever.
Thank you so much for sharing. I took a day trip from Budapest to Eger and tried the wine you mentioned. You are right. It was excellent. Here’s the link to the video of the trip if you’re interested. ua-cam.com/video/ub_rhhk6tWs/v-deo.html
The "Halászlé" is typically made with carp--more specifically, mirror carp ( tükörponty ). One of the best and most well known kind of halászlé is from the town of Baja ( Bajai halászlé ). It's not a thick soup and it is served with noodles. The fish is usually not in the soup bowl when it is served, but on separate plate. The authentic version is cooked in a cauldron over fire. Many people enjoy this soup with very spicy cherry peppers. Families pass down the "secret" of making their version of the soup from generation to generation.
thank you for your very informative vlog, it became a very meaningful guide for me
You’re welcome! So glad it was helpful.
you tried túró rudi!! yaaaaay🎉❤
It was yummy.
A túró Rudi eredetije Szovjet. Onnan hozták be. Kicsit változtattak rajta, de szovjet
I saw Kolbasz, i new it was gonna be a good video..if you go next time, try to find cowtong cooked in piggyfet!
I’ll be going either this year or next year. Looks good,
I hope you have an amazing time!

Aww thanks so much! The food is yummy! Hope you have a nice day too!
You are very good, thank you very much 🙂❤️
You’re welcome. Thank you!
eating that much... uhhh. this day must have been tough for you guys 😃
So tough! We enjoyed every moment. We usually try to share the food so we can try more things without getting too full.
Foodie.... So different foods
Palinka remains me to Swiss " Snaps " kinda Liquer with different kind of Fruit taste , little is medicine more are party .
Really great
Thank you!
When I was child and went on summer holidays to Budapest the food you called Langos never came with toppings like a Pizza they just rubbed garlic on it, and the market Hall did not look like it does today looked more like Victoria Market here in Melbourne lol in saying this love our Market here
Hi! The langos came with so many options for toppings. I’m sure the original way with just garlic would be so good too. I love visiting markets in different cities. This one in Budapest was really nice because locals and tourists were shopping there.
11:30 Piano music is Hungarian dance No.5. by Brhams.
Staffed Cabbage is called Sarmale in romanian and every nation has it's own stuffed cabbage rolls recipe
Goulash soup - the best. ☺️👍
Goulash is so yummy!
@@OneWayTicketAliHolly and the langos is has difference ;) im hungarian but i dont like every langos here :D
@@boiessss Where is your favorite place to get langos?
Best
Thank you!
💜💜💜💜
I really liked your videos, you are so cute! What else I recommend, go to a traditional restaurant the next time you visit and try our vegetables. Unfortunately, there is no proper English term for "vegetable stews", with which we usually eat some meat topping. For example, meatloaf, stew, also fried eggs, etc... and many of us also eat bread. My favorite is the spinach stew, and my other favorite is the tomato cabbage stew with meatloaf.
Aww! Thank you so much. I really like Budapest, so I definitely plan to go back. When I do go back, I’ll be sure to try spinach stew and tomato cabbage stew. Sounds yummy! Thanks for the recommendations. 😀
Guys , I keep watching your food tour. Do these places take credit cards of local currency only, I’m visiting in Christmas with my family and would definitely try these places.
Thanks! It seems like most of the places take credit cards. We did take out some cash just in case. We hope you have a great time when you visit. 😀
You have to know that "Drummer cake" is kinda bad thing. Usually we don't translate family names into EN, because he were pastry chef, József Dobos, and the invention was the butter cream, that was unusual at the time. Please don't call it Drummer cake.
Nice
Thank you!
NOW I AM HUNGRY!!!!!!!!😪
The food in Budapest is so yummy! 😀
😁 Huh "Fakanál" Restaurant. Sorry, I just stumbled in it during watching the video. It's like an American would open a beauty salon called Rhonda Szépségszalon. ("Ronda" - same pronunciation - means "ugly" in Hungarian.)
Okay, continuing the video. That sausage is one of my fav. too, as a Hungarian. 😊 🤘🏼 (It's cool to see tourists experiences our tastes.)
Hey! Nice video. One little correction: the túró rudi was filled with apricot, not peach.
Thank you so much! Thanks for letting us know about the túró rudi flavor.
@@OneWayTicketAliHolly And it is cottage cheese. I enjoyed your enthusiastic video about our country. I started going to Szimpla Kert when it's opened, which was a while back, great place, then it had local prices not like now, bloody tourists 😂
@@convid1984 Thank you! We're so glad you enjoyed the video. We loved Hungary! Szimpla Kert was one of the most unique pubs we had ever visited.
👍,
And somlói galuska?
❤
Good
Thank you!😀
❤❤❤❤
Your dog is so cute
Thank you!
It's a NYC video
What makes that flower ice cream Hungarian? Any specific flavor? Such stores are popping up everywhere
We just included it in our Budapest food tour because we thought the rose-shaped ice cream was unique and Gelarto Rosa is a popular ice cream shop in Budapest.
@@OneWayTicketAliHolly it 's definitely very trendy. I have seen these flower ice creams in every city we visited in the past few years.
Having cake without coffee? Come on, man!
tell us about that darling little dog!

Hi did you have to book the restaurant in advance?
No we didnt have to book anything in advance. :)
Does pálinka burn more than a vodka, cognac/brandy or whisky? I don't know, but I'd say not necessarily. Maybe they just weren't used to it.
Pálinka comes from 40% alcohol to even more than 70%, so it burns differently. Pálinka means its made of purely fruits, but depending on how much you reduce it, the alcohol can differ. The most popular ones are between 44-52%, so it burns about as much as a vodka, but with fruit aftertaste.
just like vodka
but pálinka has a fruit favour after u drink it not like vodka
Pálinka is painful
Can you look out for gluten free foods at all please? Thanks ❤
i live in hungary and thats not pizza its lángos
no problem but just saying
You eat so "foreign" a Lángos :D
you were actually competely represented wrongly that sausage what you had please keep correct, because it is uncured and unsmoked and it has not been keept before cooked , meanwhile its fresh product.
Jó videó csak az volt a szenvedés amikor a lángost le pizzázták, meg a túrórudira azt monta hogy sajt van benne.
Thank you!
Azért mert igazából a túró vagy rögös túró maga hungarikum, a legközelebbi étel ami 'nyugaton' hasonlít hozzá, az a cottage cheese, ami ugye 'sajt'.
Good country is the hungry in living please explain
We had a great time on our trip to Hungary.
Thanks for the video... but the exchanged prices in euro are totally miscalculated and deceiving, guys, even in 2022. 430 Ft = 1 Euro..... PLEASE CORRECT THEM TO BE MORE REALISTIC....e.g. 3300 Ft in 2022 would have been around 8 euro and NOT 2.4 EURO.
Do all places accept cards or they prefer cash only?
We did take out some cash just in case, but it seems like most places take cards.
There's a hungarian law that states that every shop, restaurant, buffet etc. have to accept card payments.
Csak a kajákért mentetek ?
A westendbe is elmentek?
Hi! During our time in Budapest, we visited the thermal baths, Buda Castle, and Fisherman’s Bastion. We also took a day trip to Eger. Here is the link to those videos if you’re interested. ua-cam.com/video/ub_rhhk6tWs/v-deo.html
ua-cam.com/video/71rS6tlC1vs/v-deo.html
Hungarian pizza??!? That made me laugh. The dough is actually not sweet and also, I don't think any Hungarian would ever eat honey mustard LOL. Anyway, nice video, I'm glad you guys had fun!
Thanks!
Ah the usual misspelling of native English speakers
I am hungry Hungaryan people. Sorry my bad english.. Eat traditional hungaryan foods.. Pacalpörkölt,csülkös pacal, körömpörkölt. IGAZI gulyás, csülkös bableves, Jókai bableves, Tiszai halászlé, Bajai halászlé. Alföldi disznóvágás pecsenyével, hurkával, kolbásszal. Valamint a kevésbé ismertek.. Borsópörkölt, pakrikás krumpli, ( burgonya, a fordíthatóság kedvéért) Lebbencsleves, Egres főzelék rántott parizellel. A helyi ételek helyi megnevezését ne is említsem......
Thank you the recommendations.
I'm taking note of all the good food but why does she end every sentence like it's a question or something 😅
🇸🇰!!!! SLOVENSKO NAD VŠETKO!!! BUDAPEŠŤ ZHORIE!!!! 🇸🇰 🇸🇰 🇸🇰 🇸🇰
SLOVAKIA ABOVE EVERYTHING!!! BUDAPEST WILL BURN? Are you mad? Your comment should be deleted immediately!
and also it was an unsmoked sausage anyway
i thought you should not pronounce it as pest but pesht
no way that was not a honey in mustard please keep correct
What is your favorite Hungarian food?
Harcsapaprikás kapros-túrós csuszával 👌
Stuffed cabbage 😋
@@timeakarolyi1026 We loved the chicken paprika, so I'm sure the catfish paprika is really good also.
@@lakasotthon1508 Yummy! Loved stuffed cabbage also.
Habart paszuj minden féle képen
These are tourist traps, not traditional Hungarian food restaurants
Hungarians would hang themselves if a slice like that of a cake is almost 1100 forints.
Argh my ears bleed hearing you say Budapest lol. It's BudaPESSSST and Langos is NOT pizza. Food looked yummy nevertheless.
The food was delicious!
@@OneWayTicketAliHolly I spent the whole time drooling lol
“It helps to pronounce your destination correctly. If you're going to Hungary, it's not Budapest, “boo-da-pest.” It's “boo-duh-pesht.”
Typical unhelpful non constructive comment.
LANGOS IS NOT NOT NOT A PIZZA!
Langos has nothing to do with pizza, and it is not know as a Pizza anywhere, „maybe in America“. Langos is just langos.
Yeah but don't call the langos pizza.
No pig meats plz or fat food. I am not sure what you are eating is healthy or not thats susage look wired and iam not sure if it is healthy
You need to learn the pronunciations
All paid likes, views and subscriptions, beware guys
KI LESZTEK HERÉLVE CIGÁNYOK
If goulash doesn't have juice, it's a scam. That's not goulash. You can no longer find real Hungarian flavors in Budapest. You have to go to the countryside to get to know Hungarian food. It's a bad joke
I see the American enjoys the cake. Enjoy. Eat all you can. In fact eat more. Why not? My Hungarian Fiancé from Vadna. Would rather eat real food. Probably why she is size 6 and not a twelve. P.s why don't you try Indigenous food? Eh?
Nice
Thank you!
