- Inspired by the Initial D Japanese manga comic series, Toyota’s new GT86 project re-imagines the world-famous AE86 Corolla for a new generation.
On its launch in 2012, the Toyota GT86 was instantly recognised as a spiritual successor to the rear-wheel drive Corolla GT Coupe - also known as the AE86 - of the mid-1980s. That connection has been re-emphasised with the creation of a one-off GT86 Initial D concept, liveried and kitted to match its comic book Corolla predecessor.
Initial D was a cult Japanese manga comic series in which the young hero, Takumi Fujiwara, famously drove a modified AE86, honing his driving skills on mountain roads while moonlighting as delivery driver for his father’s tofu shop. The car emerged as a star in its own right, influencing the emerging drifting scene and inspiring a live action movie and various arcade games. - Авто та транспорт

I doubt it would be an imitation of a scene from Initial D if you simply replaced the music, it would actually show even more respect; when people see an AE86 trueno or the Initial D livery, they almost always think of eurobeat - Initial D isn't Initial D without the extraordinary music. My suggestion would be to upload another version of this video, but with eurobeat as the background music - it would make me, and thousands of others from the Initial D and ae86 fanbase extremely happy. We're all glad you're keeping the spirit of the downhill champion alive!

My grandfather said that it is still a Trueno AE86 because the model of the engine is still the same, but the body is on modernization so that's why its in good performance like the AE86 model 1998

Toyota, here's something: Bring back the AE86 body. Very limited. Like, 100 units per country limited. Everything the same or at least similar to the original. With updated tech and get Yamaha to make something special for the engine. Don't let Subaru touch it. :O

This is one of the best car commercials. It doesn’t have any stupid showcase (ie Ford Fusion the dragon ball commercial or some crap) and it doesn’t lazily talk about it’s specs. It’s just references the thing that made this car’s predicator so popular and show off it drive. It’s clean and enjoyable to watch.

Yeah, except it would have to be changed to work with modern safety standards. And the GT86 is what you get when you take the AE86 and update it for aerodynamics and safety.
They could technically make some new AE86's if they really wanted to, in the EU at least. Last year a new law came into place called the "Low Volume Motor Vehicle Manufacturers Act", I guess they would probably have to spin off a special company to take advantage of it and they won't be able to make them cheap. I doubt it allows full freedom but this rule is the reason why the old DMC Delorean has been allowed to resume production; with modern engines, suspension, brakes, etc of course...
megaspeed2v2 the one big reason it wouldnt fly is pop up headlights are now illegal due to the traffic safety and transportation board deeming them a potential danger to pedestrians. So now matter how badly we want it, the gt86 is the closest we'll get.

From what I understand there are a few differences between the new and old 86:
New 86 is more powerful, more refined and has a better interior but is heavier.
Old 86 is less powerful but is REALLY light weight. From what I can tell, the AE86 was about the weight of a smart car!
Both cars are similar in many ways but the new 86 is easier to drive. Driving the AE86 is more of an experience. New 86 is a better daily driver. Both are fantastic!

While I really like the GT86, which is as beautiful as it is great to drive (and I admit that I'd love to own one), it still feels somewhat unlike the classic AE86. Hopefully one day I will own both... I love Toyotas. My only real problem is finding an LHD AE86 and then importing it :V
