Thank you for another shared visit with you, Peter. Inspite of having been involved with this art for about three decades, I always pick up a hint or three from your presentations. One thing I noticed is that, inspite of yourself, you did elevate the tree into a slightly more upright position. I, always, enjoy your videos and very talented demonstrations. Cheers, Dick from Vancouver.
I love that maple because it doesn't look like all the other maples, many of my maple sprouts that I dig from the mother tree I wire to give some shape, I won't be around when they are fully grown but the shape makes the babies much more interesting. Thanks for another informative video Peter, working a lot on my sailboat and needed a nice green break and your videos always give me that.
I am incredibly late to see this comment, but I know where deshojo maples can be stocked here in the US as I bought one not to long ago. Go to bonsaioutlet.com and contact them. They have amazing customer service and will help you out if they have any on hand. They don't post all of their stock online, maybe they could put you on a contact list too if they don't have any at the moment. It's worth asking
I AM learning! I noticed a small branch on the tree Peter was working on that I thought maybe should be removed, and he came back and did so at the end! Maybe I am starting to 'see' through Mr Chan's eyes... excited!

Lovely unique Maple. Thanks Peter. Also thanks for showing how to take a cutting. I'd be interested in seeing how to do a graft if you have the chance to show it. Be well.
It is impossible not to learn something from your videos. I shall say that Deshojo are also my favorite tree. Nevertheless, it might be harder to grow them here in Brazil. But this makes them even more desirable. Interesting enough, mine Deshojo has the younger parts of trunk and branches a light green, instead of that beautiful red of yours. But the leaves are as beautiful as you have shown. Thanks a lot for sharing.
Beautiful yet rather unusual leaning style indeed, was itching to see what it would be like without the branch on the right side,.well done Peter and can't wait to see the next one. Stay safe to all and Cheers 😄

Hi if you air-layered from a tree that was grafted what would you get ? The bottom grafted part of the tree or the top graft tree or a hybrid of a tree ?
Too bad you could not sell the current years growth cuttings that you rooted to us in the U.S.. Would make an interesting plant to work with from a cuttings. Trying to get a seedling here is about $40/seedling. Great Maples. Great Colors.

Peter posted a video about willow bonsai a month ago. ua-cam.com/video/fg7B_hoyDfQ/v-deo.html Willows are a good beginner tree because they grow quickly and have pliable branches to practice wiring on, but they are short lived trees, prone to dieback and have soft, easy to rot wood that doesn’t last as driftwood feature. so they they are not much appreciated by bonsai professionals. PS by short lived I mean decades instead of hundreds of years other trees can age to.

Keep them in shade. I wish you good luck but these maples are from cooler climate and I don’t think they can adapt to tropical climate.
I'd say more or less full shade and mist the tree regularly .
Like being said, maples need cold winters to survive same goes for oak. They will not survive in tropical climate.
