During the first lockdown of covid I went up into my attic after watching a youtube video and dug out all my childhood dolls. The video showed me how I could restore them, and make them look new again. I didn't know at that time that this was going to send me down a path of becoming a full time collector ! Im lucky to have 3 older sisters so I ended up with alot of Barbies from different eras. I think I had around 40 Barbies in the attic with all their original clothing and accessories, including any and all card board accessories ! So in 3 years I've managed to collect 724 Barbies! Im definately a bargain shopper, yardsale hunter, and a thrift store queen ! I also buy large lots of Barbie things and resell anything I don't need to recope some of the money spent ! 90s Barbie is my favorite but I do like 60s, 70s and 80s as well. I stop at anything in the 2000s, they don't interest me much. Well aside from the made to move dolls, they are great for restyles.
The COVID lockdown is when I started too. I pretty much lived on Shelly's channel, @AThousandSplendidDolls. It's so cool that you still had all your childhood Barbies. *Drool!* I love that you're a thrift store queen. That's my husband's department. He's there nearly every day. We've found some great dolls that way, but it's been slim pickings for a while!
This was so much fun and nostalgic to the max ❤❤❤ I believe are we around 10 years apart. So it is amazing to see what dolls you grew up with. My childhood dolls were all 90s Barbies. And I follow some collectors that are even around 10 years younger than me and it's so fun to know what dolls and toys they had. Loved the stories you told corresponding to the dolls🥺💗 And congrats to adding this absolutely stunning Golden Dream Barbie.💛💖💛
Aw thank you! There are so many great 90s Barbies too. I didn’t realize that til I started collecting. I love how everyone who grew up w them has such great memories, no matter what the era. 🥰
It's always so much fun to see what everyone had as their childhood Barbies. I unfortunately don't have my childhood ones anymore, I wish I did, but I started getting them again as an adult, and that's what got me into collecting too. My fondest memories were of the Mattel Pocahontas, Anastasia, and my Gymnast Whitney dolls. I had a fair few 1990s Barbies as well, I'm currently trying to figure out which ones I had because I really want to get them again. My first doll starting my collection again was Pocahontas, she was my absolute favorite doll growing up, so it was only fitting to get her again. I have thrifted a lot of Barbies, and also delved into other doll lines now, but I have such a special place in my heart for Barbie. I can't wait to get more from my childhood.
Definitely Top 5 for me! I love that you still have yours from childhood. Hey, question for you: Does yours have platinum blonde hair or honey blonde hair like mine does? I could've sworn my childhood one was platinum, but the one I have now is honey. Hmm...
@kadawalden definitely honey blonde but I feel like I saw a video that said there were platinums too. Maybe made in a different country than the honey blondes?
I still have almost all my childhood barbies and am never giving them away! I love them so much, mine were mostly hannah Montana barbies and others that just look like original barbie in the 2000's. I feel like I missed out on the 80's barbies because I wasn't born yet, so I'm slowly collecting them!
I loved this video :) As a child I had a Fun to Dress Barbie from 1987, I still have her, her hair is totally destroyed :D However, my dream doll has always been the Day to Night Barbie, so when I started collecting dolls as an adult, she was the number one on my list. My husband bought her for me and he's been buying dolls for me for years now although I could do that by myself, simply because at some point it became a tradition, he buys them for me as gifts and I even appreciate more the dolls that my husband bought for me than the ones that I bought myself. I've been collecting for quite a long time now, so I remember many Barbies from my childhood but I also have great memories from the period of time when I was already an adult collector. Dream Date Barbie is also one of my favourites. I remember exactly the moment my husband announced that he had just ordered her for me. It was a surprise :)
Yay, I'm so glad you get it! The Day to Night Barbie is a classic! It is sooo sweet that your husband gets them for you. Mine does too! Since I began collecting 4 years ago, he's totally into the hunt with me, and he loves to surprise me with them like yours does. 😍 When you're a collector, you're easy to shop for. 😁 Thanks for being here! 🥰🤗

Such a nice collection. Im glad you have your childhood dolls again. I got Fashion Photo PJ for christmas 1978. I did get her again and also have the repro. Oh my gosh that’s such a gorgeous PJ. I’m so glad you got her again. I love those campers. I had the Star Traveler motor home and it was my fave toy. I have it again, will do a video on that sometime. 😄
@@kadawalden Oh man, i look forward to your video on the motor home. That thing was so big lol. When i was a kid i put a lot of miles on my country camper. It was so fun. I like the picture of the owl inside. That was so big in the 70’s.
WOW I have never seen a Golden Dream in that brilliant condition! Shining gorgeous! Your sweet kitty at the end made me laugh, I love how you sang Beyonce to him 🤣😹💛. Always a fun video Kada!
Such a fun video! I'm so happy for you, you're almost done with your childhood collection. I've loved Barbie since I was 5 years old. I'd ask for a Barbie for every birthday and Christmas. I would always get baby dolls and the Sunshine Family. Much later in my childhood I finally got a Barbie! As a kid I had, Beauty Secrets, Ballerina (the same one you have), Twirly Curls, Pretty Changes, Day To Night, Crystal, Birthday (the same one you have), Winking Western and I had one Ken, 1980 Sport & Shave Ken. I also had 3 pets. Dallas, Fluff and Beauty. I foolishly gave them all away when I was a teenager. I never stopped liking Barbie. I started thinking about them again after my second child. So, I started the long process of buying them all again. Last Christmas my sister gifted me the last Barbie I needed to finish my childhood collection! It was the Ballerina Barbie. I cried I was so excited! I have finally, in 2023 finished my childhood Barbie collection! Complete with the three pets I had as well. I never had a Barbie doll house, however I always wanted one. My sister had one. I have happily added the 1978 Barbie Townhouse to my collection. The house was my first acquisition. The dolls and pets came after. I spent hours playing with Barbie's! With friends and by myself. I'm a Barbie girl for life! Have to click the subscribe button! I saw in the comments, you watch "A Thousand Splendid Dolls". So do I. I love their videos! I also bought the Sunshine family again just cuz.
I love everything about this! Sounds like we had many of the same things! Except you had the townhouse, drool! My childhood friend had it - I finally got it as an adult. I have most of my childhood dolls. I had a Quick Curl Barbie that I don't know what happened to, she just disappeared. Funny, I recently found her while thrifting a few months ago, so my childhood collection is complete. I only had a few Barbies growing up Quick Curl Barbie, Beauty Secrets Barbie, The Kissing Barbie, Malibu Barbie, Ken and Skipper, the PJ with the tan lines and the Super-Sized Superstar Barbie. I have so many more now, as a doll hunter. My thrift store has been pretty good for vintage Mattel dolls. Recently I'm seeing more and more Rainbow High and LOL doll and current Fashionistas. So, I dig through those bags looking for a treasure. Many years ago, I was at a thrift store, and I saw a little girl in line with a Dream Date Barbie wearing the Dream Date PJ's outfit. I was holding the Dream Date PJ who was wearing the Barbie outfit. I was thinking will the mother think I was crazy to ask if we could swap doll clothes. In the end I just bought the doll in the wrong outfit. 😋
Wow, what an interesting story about seeing Barbie & PJ in reversed outfits at the thrift store. I SO would've wanted to say something, but I probably wouldn't have either. We can tell ourselves that the little girl preferred the blue color of PJ's Dream Date dress, so she wouldn't have wanted to trade anyway. 😄 I too used to get lucky with vintage dolls at the thrift store but yep, I'm seeing way more RH and LOL now too. I’m still on the hunt for Pretty in pink.

Super cool that you also re-acquired your childhood Barbies. I can't believe I don't remember 1980 Roller Skating Barbie - seems like I would've been obsessed with her too! 😄
I actually found her at a thrift store on the wrong body and she was $0.45. I switched her head to the right body and she looks great! No outfit but her hair still curls which is really cool!

Great video! I had jewel secrets, magic moves, peaches and cream, crystal, pink jubilee, and some of the rockers. Def actively trying to reacquire them. Seem to find everything but them tho, but finding amazing dolls along the way.
Me too! I have always collected since childhood but my ballerina doll did not make it with me into adulthood so when I started really getting into college ting again ballerina is the first one I ordered on ebay.
@lden It's honestly as good as I remember my original one was. I like how much easier to style it is than regular hair but I also remember being underwhelmed at the curling feature.
I do have my original golden dream barbie, I do have my original kissing barbie. I also have two of the super fashion fireworks packs with both barbies. I am missing the ballerina barbie my brother threw her into a fly paper strip and my sister tried helping me out by cutting her out. I have no idea what happened to my birthday barbie but your right mullet city, just a side note I do have Mego Farrah Fawcett with a mullet as well. I did miss out on Dream date and I was so jealous of anyone who had that line. The other line that I had that you didn't bring up is the Western barbie and Ken. I get that because western barbie's winking eye never lasted more than a year if you played with her. As far as getting the sharpie out of kissing barbie use zit cream with 10% benzoyl peroxide and a sunny day (trust me on this) put it on her lips put her in the sun repeat till sharpie is gone . Thank you for being you.
Omg we would’ve been friendsies, with the same Barbies! I love that you still have many of yours. I LOLd about Ballerina in the fly paper. 🤣 Must’ve been devastating though. I actually did have Western Barbie but yes, the wonky eye always bugged so I quietly had no interest in reacquiring her, the poor girl. 😉 Thanks for the benzoyl peroxide tip! 🙏🥰

@@janealae Aww that’s a good mom ☺️
Great video! I had jewel secrets, magic moves, peaches and cream, crystal, pink jubilee, and some of the rockers. Def actively trying to reacquire them. Seem to find everything but them tho, but finding amazing dolls along the way.
My little sister had those. Now I’m nostalgic for those too. 😍
Me too! I have always collected since childhood but my ballerina doll did not make it with me into adulthood so when I started really getting into college ting again ballerina is the first one I ordered on ebay.
Yes! We understand each other.🥰
I can’t recall if I had Beauty Secrets Barbie or Kissing Barbie . Maybe the latter. It was during the same time I had Beauty!
Same year, I believe. Both great! Love that you had them too 😍
I got one from a thrift store and her hair is fine. I even washed it with dishwashing liquid iirc.
Great find! 🤩
@lden It's honestly as good as I remember my original one was. I like how much easier to style it is than regular hair but I also remember being underwhelmed at the curling feature.
i might have that one i have a ton ,i forget
Nice! 🤩
Greetings from Puerto Rico, i love your'e collection and your'e video ,maybe you can try to remove the sharpie with 70% alcohol 😊
Thank you! I’ll try your tip. 🤗🙏
You can get the Sharpie off your kissing Barbie's lips with Oxy acne cream or any other with benzoyl peroxide.
Thank you, I’ll try that 🤗
