My little heart stopped beating as I looked at her beautiful gown, her kind face, her gorgeous hair. Used to spend hours just lightly touching her beautiful gown. In the grand scheme of things, Pittsburgh isn’t THAT far from Appalachia… Did you get the reproduction when they came back around?? I didn’t and I still kick myself for not jumping on the “My favorite” and the other reproductions that came out in and around 2009. I had started collecting by 2019 but still hadn’t worked up a massive interest in having the 80s dolls. I do have some of the rewind dolls and they are cute!! It’s Bizarre to me that they didn’t do a mashup of some of the “gown” Barbies like peaches and cream.

So much great stuff to be had from this decade. I especially love the stuff from 1980-1984.

Dream Glow Barbie is my number 1. When I grew up in the 80s I was mostly playing with G1 My little ponys. But my stepsister always got Barbies and Barbie accessories from her father. One day she came home with Dream Glow Barbie, I was so jealous. I wanted one myself, but I only got Sindys or Judiths from my family. And a lot of Barbie horses. As an adult I started to collect Barbies 1 year ago . Dream Glow was the first one I bought. I am so in love and I look at her and all childhood memories come back to me. Since then my 600 My little ponies are sharing shelfs with a lot of other 80s Barbies: Peaches n cream, Lovin you Barbie, Sea loving Barbie, Barbie and the rockers, Crystal Barbie, Angel face and Day to night. They all are favourites. And I swear they are multiplying!!, I am addicted and just got in to 90s dolls. So yes now I need a bigger house

The Barbie's from 1980 up to 1986 are my personal favorite Barbie era's, they radiated a certain elegance as if they came straight out of a Soap opera series, I myself used to get "Great Shape Barbie" from my grandparents for my birthday, unfortunately I lost my Barbie's when I stopped playing with them, but now I have started collecting Barbie's from the 80's all over again, But i;m really some other great Barbie;s from the 80's in your collection that a sure one of my favorite like, "Pink And Pretty" - "Fabulous Furr" and "Angel Face" Barbie. 😊😉

Golden Dream Barbie--that wire in her hair didn't hold up well. It got so tangled! But I loved the clothes. Also had the Dream Date Barbie in pink/purple. I'd say I remembered most of these, at least the ones from the 1st half of the 80s.
What an awesome video! I grew up in the 80s and I remember when these dolls were on retail in stores. "Barbie and the Rockers" are just amazing and they breath 80s style everywhere. Every girl in 85 wanted to look like Madonna, so does Barbie! And the 80s stand out for neon colors. But the most beautiful Barbie ever is "Peaches and Cream". I mean, she stands for herself. No Ken, no playset, no other fashion-set needed. She is immaculate and flawless. When you saw her in a shop, you had look at her! Absolutley mind-blowing. And there was "Dreamglow-Barbie" with "glow in the dark" fashions. "Tropical-Barbie" with extra long hair. "Loving You-Barbie" with her heart-shaped dress. And there was "Sun Gold Malibu.Barbie". Very sexy in a gold bathingsuit. Or "Angel Face-Barbie". Ahhh and "Crystal Barbie" in her white evening dress. And "Dream Date-Barbie". All of these were so unique and iconic. This was the peak of Barbie, I guess. Nothing compares to the 80s.
Yea I landed in the East Village NYC at 16 years of age Madonna & Keith Harring Debi Mazar all lived just a block or two away in the 80s we were all friends... Such an incredible time period I associate my earliest memories of collecting Barbie with friend Ricky Wilson from the B-52s he also collected vintage Barbie & lived in the east village and he went to Barbie Heaven way to soon. Most everyone collecting Barbie then was mainly interested in vintage , it was the beginning for me ! My appreciation for 80s Barbie started in the 90s ! LOL at the accent! I'm from Memphis, but my dad was from up north, and we watched a lot of PBS, so I managed to not sound southern until after I lived in Knoxville a few years. I was sitting here thinking, "wow, that's the first not-goshawful southern accent I've heard," so of course it wasn't southern lol. So glad you explained the reasoning behind Astronaut Barbie not looking like a real astronaut. It always bothered me that it was so pink and girly, but now, understanding it was because kids were scared, makes sense.
I only had one Barbie when I was a kid and that was Barbie Rock Star (Europe edition) But the one I was so jealous some other girls had was Dream glow. So that was one of the first I got when I started collecting.
I had Day to Night Barbie, and I still have Peaches and Cream Barbie from wayyyy 🤭 back in my childhood. My Dad bought her for Christmas, and she's still beautiful. I love your videos btw.
You have any Rockers fashion packs? I have some loose fashions, I think they're great. I also had All Stars Christie and Teresa as a kid and still do. They're in excellent shape. My husband got me the Barbie and Midge inbox for Christmas. Two of my favorite 80s barbies that I got from Santa as a kid are Dance magic and Garden Party ❤. Classic beauties !

magic moves barbie is one of my favorite barbies ever because of how luxurious & magical the cxommercial is genuinely one of the best piece of advertisement ever . . . i really adored the astronaut barbie section finding out about the astro fashions might actually change my life forever & I'm writing it here as a memoir entry . . . also hehe I've had this project since i starting watching jem in the summer but i am so excited to customize each barbie & the rockers member into a jem & the holograms character since i realized there is a one to one with everyone & i can just use another barbie for kimber since she & jem are biological sisters turning dana into aja excites me so much because i love how much the sculpt already resembles her so much hehe

Someone will inevitably scream "Barbie & The Rockers was just a Jem knockoff", which to that I say Jem was a Barbie knockoff which also stole ideas from multiple other sources(Hasbro isn't known for having original ideas, honestly), including a real band which didn't have the money to sue Hasbro in response(oh and on that note, Gerry & The Holograms was also a real band from the 70s so I guess that was stolen, too). The character designs are hideous, the cartoon was a dumpster fire(I would only guess Ghost Writer creator Marv Wolfman wrote for it because he needed the money) & it was a massive failure. Brian Goldner tried desperately to revive it in his last years as Hasbro CEO but every attempt failed miserably. It's so unworkable as a brand that Hasbro has subtly turned to partnerships with Crypton Media to slowly replace her with Hatsune Miku, of which they've made My Little Pony & Mr Potato Head crossover toys so far.
The doll in Andy Warhol’s Barbie painting is actually Peaches & Cream Barbie. It’s pretty impressive. There’s diamond dust in the paint!! I wonder if he was aware of what that head mold was called…he’d have to, right??
Yeah a lot of people say it’s inspired by the 81 superstar Barbie, but I wonder if they’re confusing the name of the head sculpt for the name of the doll, as it definitely looks a lot more like peaches n cream. 🙌🏻🔥
@@Thedollswitness Adding this at the beginning of a LOOOONG (sorry!!) reply because I want you to actually see it- GOOD CATCH on spotting Day-To-Night Barbie (in nighttime look) IN the Barbie Movie!!! I thought I was the only one who spotted that. But I’ve only ever watched with my BF who only likes Barbies because of me and would therefore have no frame of reference. He DOES think that Debbie Mazar looks like classic Barbie. If D2N Barbie is the one Ugly Betty is playing with in the movie then isn’t that “think of a Barbie” BARBIE-BARBIE?? I think there’d be a lot of different answers but I think they’d fall into one of two main categories and Margot threads that needle pretty brilliantly. Now I’m mad because I’m remembering how Barbie was straight up ROBBED at the Oscars this year. Do they?? That’s the first I’m hearing of it. The Warhol foundation/Museum says it’s peaches and cream. The blurb next to the painting (which I saw when the Warhol Exhibition came to town) said peaches and cream. The blurb on the back of the box that my Gold Edition officially licensed Warhol Barbie (this is the only one of the three with the superstar face mold & the Warhol painting reproduced on the back of and the backdrop IN the box, as well as on the dress the doll is wearing- and there’s no way THAT wasn’t a subtle visual pun on the designer’s part) came in says. So that is What I’m going with. I actually ended up with four or five of these gold Warhol dolls. It’s kinda ridiculous actually. The boxes were all a little banged up but all but One had the creases on the bottom or back so they still display really well. I took that one out of the box (still on the cardboard) thinking I could repair it, failed and decided she was actually SUPER fun to play with and dress!! I put her in a black sequin gown & popped her next to my reproduction 77 superstar and they look like they’re gonna hit Studio 54. I also kept one boxed to display because she is very pretty and she rounds out a display group. Dolls using the Superstar head mold were the Barbies I grew up with. As soon as I got hold of some collector magazines and started to realize that they had looked very different and I liked that A LOT better, I started to feel a little…I dunno, cheated?? It wasn’t until I was older that I started to regain an appreciation for them. But it has its limits. Maybe it’s that I grew up not getting all the clothes to go with the Barbies and having to make my own and the doll’s clothes not match the makeup(most pronounced on the Barbie & the Rockers doll I got for my 8th birthday when I tried to put her in anything else) but I tend to favor dolls with fairly neutral face-paint. They’re just way more versatile. Is the superstar Barbie you mention in a pink or purple dress with stars on it, and it has more of the ball gown shape to the dress that you see on P&C, The Crystal Barbie with the iridescent dress (oh my darn did I love her!!) and the…sweetheart (?) Barbie with the red velvet bodice to the dress with a skirt & (maybe) sleeve puffs of white sheer fabric with red flocked hearts? Am I thinking of the right doll? Because a memory just shook loose of having my grubby little paws on that box at the Sprouse-Rietz and my mom saying no. If that is the one, especially if it’s a painting OF a doll, I could see the mistake but you’re right- if you know what you’re looking at, it’s peaches & cream Barbie. Those Warhol dolls if you aren’t familiar (and I apologize for coming off like a know-it-all and a jerk if you are) are AWESOME. The lucky purchase of the gold edition dolls led me to research the others. The silver edition version is wearing a leopard faux fur coat, black leggings/stockings, white boots and a white, tomato soup can minidress. This is an outfit I would personally wear 3x per week…or if absolutely nothing else to the next Dandy Warhols Xmas show. She has long dangly earrings and her box backdrop is a B&W shot of the Factory with Andy sitting on a couch in the background. This one uses the Louboutin face mold & her makeup is very 60s with graphic liner and a pale lip but still somewhat subtle. I have this doll. She is still in the box. My one complaint is that her hair is long. Too long. She looks like they were trying for Edie Sedgwick and the wires got crossed. The platinum edition doll was super limited, and speaking of clothes I would (and come to think of it DO wear) came dressed AS Andy Warhol but it’s still a female doll so it ends up looking a lot more like Debbie Harry- which is still fine by me!! I’m only judging by photographs. I have never and probably will never even SEE this doll. I display my 2 Warhol Barbies with my Keith Haring and JM Basquiat Barbies.(all in boxes b/c the box adds so much more context) I call them My NewYork Dolls. I have some genuine fashion pieces for both barbie and Ken and a vintage case but most of my vintage Barbies are actually 90s reproductions OF the early dolls. So TECHNICALLY vintage. Price-wise, the early vintage period dolls are just completely out of my reach, I just like the look of them and want to be able to dress them so this suits my needs perfectly. This was kind of the jumping off point for my collection. For a minute there those 90s reproductions of the 60s dolls were, well not DIRT cheap but not at all expensive. What’s more expensive than dirt but still not expensive…sand?? They were sand-cheap. Not so much anymore. And of course, there were collector reproductions as well as toy-line reproductions. Those are the sand/dirt dolls!! And they’re STILL great. I doubt that they’re super expensive now. Some ppl will opt to overestimate, some will underestimate. But I don’t think I’d have much problem finding any of them still boxed for under 30-40. I have a few I’m holding on to in case they go up (And not a one is a Happy Holidays) but for the most part, I collect Barbies to enjoy them and for me that’s dressing them, making new outfits, grouping them. I dunno. It’s just fun!!
Id be remiss if I forgot to mention "Crystal" Barbie. She was absolutely stunning!! I do have to say though that "My First Barbie" in the yellow and blue mix and match outfit is probably my favorite Barbie of all time.....
You totally missed an opportunity to dress like the Cowboy from the Village People during your Western Barbie monologue! I actually think "Diva" from Barbie and the Rockers was just Midge trying to be cool. One of my favorite Barbies from the 80's was "Parisian" Barbie. I loved the dress she came in and thought she had a really pretty face. I just cant get enough of you......
I was wanted to get her. But as an adult I have one and I also have a reproduction. The Peach and white dress was a nice change. instead of the pink many other Barbies dresses. Even though I love pink, peach was a nice change.
@@Thedollswitness yes definitely! The frilly that definitely makes the dress and I love the bodies. I have noticed that only a few dolls had a bodice like that and I just think it just adds to the 1980s and just really also makes the dress pop.!
And I also love it that y’all are guys, and y’all are so passionate about Barbies and all about the details and everything. It’s awesome. Barbie and the Rockers were over the top! I owned some of that line, but I didn't get into it as much as I should of due to Jem. Now I regret it, because they had some awesome fashions! I find them calling to me from E-Bay.... lol!

The Barbie's from 1980 up to 1986 are my personal favorite Barbie era's, they radiated a certain elegance as if they came straight out of a Soap opera series, I myself used to get "Great Shape Barbie" from my grandparents for my birthday, unfortunately I lost my Barbie's when I stopped playing with them, but now I have started collecting Barbie's from the 80's all over again, But i;m really some other great Barbie;s from the 80's in your collection that a sure one of my favorite like, "Pink And Pretty" - "Fabulous Furr" and "Angel Face" Barbie. 😊😉

Golden Dream Barbie--that wire in her hair didn't hold up well. It got so tangled! But I loved the clothes.
Also had the Dream Date Barbie in pink/purple.

What an awesome video! I grew up in the 80s and I remember when these dolls were on retail in stores. "Barbie and the Rockers" are just amazing and they breath 80s style everywhere. Every girl in 85 wanted to look like Madonna, so does Barbie! And the 80s stand out for neon colors. But the most beautiful Barbie ever is "Peaches and Cream". I mean, she stands for herself. No Ken, no playset, no other fashion-set needed. She is immaculate and flawless. When you saw her in a shop, you had look at her! Absolutley mind-blowing. And there was "Dreamglow-Barbie" with "glow in the dark" fashions. "Tropical-Barbie" with extra long hair. "Loving You-Barbie" with her heart-shaped dress. And there was "Sun Gold Malibu.Barbie". Very sexy in a gold bathingsuit. Or "Angel Face-Barbie". Ahhh and "Crystal Barbie" in her white evening dress. And "Dream Date-Barbie". All of these were so unique and iconic. This was the peak of Barbie, I guess. Nothing compares to the 80s.
Yea I landed in the East Village NYC at 16 years of age Madonna & Keith Harring Debi Mazar all lived just a block or two away in the 80s we were all friends... Such an incredible time period I associate my earliest memories of collecting Barbie with friend Ricky Wilson from the B-52s he also collected vintage Barbie & lived in the east village and he went to Barbie Heaven way to soon. Most everyone collecting Barbie then was mainly interested in vintage , it was the beginning for me ! My appreciation for 80s Barbie started in the 90s ! LOL at the accent! I'm from Memphis, but my dad was from up north, and we watched a lot of PBS, so I managed to not sound southern until after I lived in Knoxville a few years. I was sitting here thinking, "wow, that's the first not-goshawful southern accent I've heard," so of course it wasn't southern lol.
So glad you explained the reasoning behind Astronaut Barbie not looking like a real astronaut. It always bothered me that it was so pink and girly, but now, understanding it was because kids were scared, makes sense.
I only had one Barbie when I was a kid and that was Barbie Rock Star (Europe edition) But the one I was so jealous some other girls had was Dream glow. So that was one of the first I got when I started collecting.
Dream glow was pretty wild! Like a sparkly Cinderella look, almost ❤️
I had Day to Night Barbie, and I still have Peaches and Cream Barbie from wayyyy 🤭 back in my childhood. My Dad bought her for Christmas, and she's still beautiful.

You have any Rockers fashion packs? I have some loose fashions, I think they're great. I also had All Stars Christie and Teresa as a kid and still do. They're in excellent shape. My husband got me the Barbie and Midge inbox for Christmas. Two of my favorite 80s barbies that I got from Santa as a kid are Dance magic and Garden Party ❤. Classic beauties !

magic moves barbie is one of my favorite barbies ever because of how luxurious & magical the cxommercial is genuinely one of the best piece of advertisement ever . . . i really adored the astronaut barbie section finding out about the astro fashions might actually change my life forever & I'm writing it here as a memoir entry . . . also hehe I've had this project since i starting watching jem in the summer but i am so excited to customize each barbie & the rockers member into a jem & the holograms character since i realized there is a one to one with everyone & i can just use another barbie for kimber since she & jem are biological sisters turning dana into aja excites me so much because i love how much the sculpt already resembles her so much hehe

Someone will inevitably scream "Barbie & The Rockers was just a Jem knockoff", which to that I say Jem was a Barbie knockoff which also stole ideas from multiple other sources(Hasbro isn't known for having original ideas, honestly), including a real band which didn't have the money to sue Hasbro in response(oh and on that note, Gerry & The Holograms was also a real band from the 70s so I guess that was stolen, too). The character designs are hideous, the cartoon was a dumpster fire(I would only guess Ghost Writer creator Marv Wolfman wrote for it because he needed the money) & it was a massive failure. Brian Goldner tried desperately to revive it in his last years as Hasbro CEO but every attempt failed miserably. It's so unworkable as a brand that Hasbro has subtly turned to partnerships with Crypton Media to slowly replace her with Hatsune Miku, of which they've made My Little Pony & Mr Potato Head crossover toys so far.

The doll in Andy Warhol’s Barbie painting is actually Peaches & Cream Barbie. It’s pretty impressive. There’s diamond dust in the paint!! I wonder if he was aware of what that head mold was called…he’d have to, right??
Yeah a lot of people say it’s inspired by the 81 superstar Barbie, but I wonder if they’re confusing the name of the head sculpt for the name of the doll, as it definitely looks a lot more like peaches n cream. 🙌🏻🔥

Adding this at the beginning of a LOOOONG (sorry!!) reply because I want you to actually see it- GOOD CATCH on spotting Day-To-Night Barbie (in nighttime look) IN the Barbie Movie!!! I thought I was the only one who spotted that. But I’ve only ever watched with my BF who only likes Barbies because of me and would therefore have no frame of reference. He DOES think that Debbie Mazar looks like classic Barbie. If D2N Barbie is the one Ugly Betty is playing with in the movie then isn’t that “think of a Barbie” BARBIE-BARBIE?? I think there’d be a lot of different answers but I think they’d fall into one of two main categories and Margot threads that needle pretty brilliantly. Now I’m mad because I’m remembering how Barbie was straight up ROBBED at the Oscars this year.
Do they?? That’s the first I’m hearing of it.
The Warhol foundation/Museum says it’s peaches and cream. The blurb next to the painting (which I saw when the Warhol Exhibition came to town) said peaches and cream. The blurb on the back of the box that my Gold Edition officially licensed Warhol Barbie (this is the only one of the three with the superstar face mold & the Warhol painting reproduced on the back of and the backdrop IN the box, as well as on the dress the doll is wearing- and there’s no way THAT wasn’t a subtle visual pun on the designer’s part) came in says. So that is What I’m going with. I actually ended up with four or five of these gold Warhol dolls. It’s kinda ridiculous actually. The boxes were all a little banged up but all but One had the creases on the bottom or back so they still display really well. I took that one out of the box (still on the cardboard) thinking I could repair it, failed and decided she was actually SUPER fun to play with and dress!! I put her in a black sequin gown & popped her next to my reproduction 77 superstar and they look like they’re gonna hit Studio 54. I also kept one boxed to display because she is very pretty and she rounds out a display group.
Dolls using the Superstar head mold were the Barbies I grew up with. As soon as I got hold of some collector magazines and started to realize that they had looked very different and I liked that A LOT better, I started to feel a little…I dunno, cheated?? It wasn’t until I was older that I started to regain an appreciation for them. But it has its limits. Maybe it’s that I grew up not getting all the clothes to go with the Barbies and having to make my own and the doll’s clothes not match the makeup(most pronounced on the Barbie & the Rockers doll I got for my 8th birthday when I tried to put her in anything else) but I tend to favor dolls with fairly neutral face-paint. They’re just way more versatile. Is the superstar Barbie you mention in a pink or purple dress with stars on it, and it has more of the ball gown shape to the dress that you see on P&C, The Crystal Barbie with the iridescent dress (oh my darn did I love her!!) and the…sweetheart (?) Barbie with the red velvet bodice to the dress with a skirt & (maybe) sleeve puffs of white sheer fabric with red flocked hearts? Am I thinking of the right doll? Because a memory just shook loose of having my grubby little paws on that box at the Sprouse-Rietz and my mom saying no.
If that is the one, especially if it’s a painting OF a doll, I could see the mistake but you’re right- if you know what you’re looking at, it’s peaches & cream Barbie.
Those Warhol dolls if you aren’t familiar (and I apologize for coming off like a know-it-all and a jerk if you are) are AWESOME. The lucky purchase of the gold edition dolls led me to research the others. The silver edition version is wearing a leopard faux fur coat, black leggings/stockings, white boots and a white, tomato soup can minidress. This is an outfit I would personally wear 3x per week…or if absolutely nothing else to the next Dandy Warhols Xmas show. She has long dangly earrings and her box backdrop is a B&W shot of the Factory with Andy sitting on a couch in the background. This one uses the Louboutin face mold & her makeup is very 60s with graphic liner and a pale lip but still somewhat subtle. I have this doll. She is still in the box. My one complaint is that her hair is long. Too long. She looks like they were trying for Edie Sedgwick and the wires got crossed. The platinum edition doll was super limited, and speaking of clothes I would (and come to think of it DO wear) came dressed AS Andy Warhol but it’s still a female doll so it ends up looking a lot more like Debbie Harry- which is still fine by me!! I’m only judging by photographs. I have never and probably will never even SEE this doll. I display my 2 Warhol Barbies with my Keith Haring and JM Basquiat Barbies.(all in boxes b/c the box adds so much more context) I call them My NewYork Dolls. I have some genuine fashion pieces for both barbie and Ken and a vintage case but most of my vintage Barbies are actually 90s reproductions OF the early dolls. So TECHNICALLY vintage. Price-wise, the early vintage period dolls are just completely out of my reach, I just like the look of them and want to be able to dress them so this suits my needs perfectly. This was kind of the jumping off point for my collection. For a minute there those 90s reproductions of the 60s dolls were, well not DIRT cheap but not at all expensive. What’s more expensive than dirt but still not expensive…sand?? They were sand-cheap. Not so much anymore. And of course, there were collector reproductions as well as toy-line reproductions. Those are the sand/dirt dolls!! And they’re STILL great. I doubt that they’re super expensive now. Some ppl will opt to overestimate, some will underestimate. But I don’t think I’d have much problem finding any of them still boxed for under 30-40. I have a few I’m holding on to in case they go up (And not a one is a Happy Holidays) but for the most part, I collect Barbies to enjoy them and for me that’s dressing them, making new outfits, grouping them.
I dunno. It’s just fun!!
Id be remiss if I forgot to mention "Crystal" Barbie. She was absolutely stunning!! I do have to say though that "My First Barbie" in the yellow and blue mix and match outfit is probably my favorite Barbie of all time.....

I actually think "Diva" from Barbie and the Rockers was just Midge trying to be cool. One of my favorite Barbies from the 80's was "Parisian" Barbie. I loved the dress she came in and thought she had a really pretty face. I just cant get enough of you......

I was wanted to get her. But as an adult I have one and I also have a reproduction. The Peach and white dress was a nice change. instead of the pink many other Barbies dresses. Even though I love pink, peach was a nice change.
