    Recently picked up a 410. I also have a TSL100 and a Friedman dirty Shirley (which does a modded plexi kinda thing). The 410 has been blowing me away. What an absolute beast of an amp!

    This is the comparison that I needed in order to make my decision. Thank you! Also to be said- I have the same outlook as you. Least amount of pedals as possible, either the amp is heavy enough for me to play or it’s not.

      But don't let an overdrive in front scare you either. There are alot of amps that really benefit from it but these amps def dont.

    I just got a 410H last fall. I really was avoiding it for no good reason really. Maybe because I’ve had Marshalls before and I wanted to try other things?…But I gave in and I’m glad I did.
    Being new to the JVM amps, it was very cool to see a comparison to the 2 channel version. I was really close to going that route before settling on the 4 channel.

      I got the 205 first and fell in love with Marshall's so I went the opposite way. It is very modern sounding but it finally helped me understand the brown sound. I had heard about OD1 on the 410 and curiosity got the best of me and I'm glad I have the 410. Thanks for watching! Congrats on joining the JVM team!

    Great video. Ive own both these heads. They are great and very well built. I use the 50W because you can turn it right up in live situation and saturate the amp which actually makes it a better amp (from my experience). Thats the only difference. But you are right they match eachothers sounds at difference settings if you can dial them in.
    Btw. I only play 50W amps they are just as loud in reality as 100W with the benefit of fully driving the output tubes. Also use a mesa single rect also 50W.

    • @DeathMetalDevin
      @DeathMetalDevin  2 роки тому

      I have several 50 watt amps and in a band practice setting it just cuts it. I agree that 100 watts doesn't sound too much louder but would I take a 6505 over a 5153 50 watt ? Yes. Obviously I play metal.

    Ive had the 410 for 7yrs. When I first picked it up, I immediately felt regret- that I'd been sleeping on Marshall the whole time. I foolishly used to think Marshall only= ACDC or Slash. Definitely learned my lesson.

    I love the comparison. It is much needed. Thank you!
    Crunch Orange and Crunch Red are identical circuits in the preamp sections of the 205 and 410. OD on the 205 is OD2 on the 410 as was already stated. Assuming the settings are identical, any differences can be attributed to the transformers, tubes, bias point, plate voltages and headroom, as the power amp circuit is the same between the two except for the two additional EL34s on the 410 and the parts that support them (grid stoppers and screen resistors).
    I’m surprised the clean mode on the 205 sounds as good as it does. I assume the gain is up fairly high since the gain control has a 1 nF bright cap which isn’t suited for cleans. Contrast this with the DSL where the bright cap becomes 100 pF when the clean mode is selected.
    I have the 210 and just changed crunch green to be crunch green on the 410. I also changed the OD channel to OD1 on the 410. These are straight forward mods on the control board.

    • @DeathMetalDevin
      @DeathMetalDevin  8 місяців тому

      Hell yeahh!! I was wondering if anyone had figured how to get the 410 od1. It typically the reason everyone moves to the 410. I would love to get a 210 and do the mod. Thanks for the wealth of info!

    • @Mister_Greg
      @Mister_Greg 8 місяців тому +1

      @@DeathMetalDevin Glad you appreciated the comment. The schematics for the JVM2 and JVM4 are pretty easy to find. On the control board of the JVM2, change C31 from 1.5nF to 1nF, C32 from 1nF to 3.3nF and R44 from 47k to 33k. Three parts and that’s it. It’s a pretty common (and simple) mod.
      I liked your DSL and JVM comparison video as well. Keep up the good work!

    Great comparison. I've heard each separately IRL and each sounded fantastic. The 205H would suit me fine. However, I think if you're going to play with the big boys you need the extra headroom and body of the 410H - its 4 x EL34s and the big output transformer!

That said, I still think this amp is amazing but for the price new all of that should have been cleaned up for sure. The 410 I have still is an awesome amp and I do plan to get the mods as well (not sure which ones yet). I do have a modded 900 and for the old school Marshall sound I use that for sure. Great comparison! I bought the JVM210H around when they first came out, deciding now if I want to bump up to the JVM410H. Mine seems very partial to Les Pauls, and just okay to me with almost everything else, without redialing. I wonder if the additional two channels would get them all to Marshall sonic bliss, or if I’m overthinking it because the other amps are “flagships”.

    • @DeathMetalDevin
      @DeathMetalDevin  2 роки тому

      They really are awesome amps. I can say that the 410H is just more spread out on the clean/crunch. I felt like I could get the tones out of the 205 between the 2 channels on the 410. What you would really be lacking is OD1 on the 410h. It is a massive sounding tone. If you are playing live it may be harder to distinguish the 2. But for at home playing I suggest getting the 410h because you will always feel like you are missing something hahaha. Or you could buy a whole other amp and keep the 210

    • @davej8045
      @davej8045 2 роки тому +1

      Thanks for the reply and information, it is appreciated. Yeah, kinda currently in that rabbit hole. I’ve had a Mesa Boogie Triple Crown TC-100 for a couple of years (3 channel, like it a lot for the tonal characteristics and versatility) thought I was going to be good with my 3 big amp setup until I saw the Friedman BE-100 deluxe (3 channel beast) and it became a must have last month. Still have to try most of the guitars through it and finish dialing things in more whenever the matching speaker cabinet shows up. I sold my Crate Blue Voodoo BV120H to a friend to make room for the Friedman but stumbled across something new, a Mezzabarba Trinity. Thinking there will be a significantly wider range of tones between those than what I would gain bumping up to the 410 for two more similar channels. The $ is also a lot more now than when I was deciding which JVM to get. I got a great deal on my 210 new and now the 410 is over twice that.

    • @DeathMetalDevin

      @@davej8045 If you haven't checkout out @kylebull channel yet you def should for those other amps he def has amps moving through his hands everyday and swears by the mezzabarba. I'd love to try that too. I see the Friedman as a super clean hot rodded marshall. I personally have the JJ Jr and love it. Personally, if you have the 210 put the money you would use for a 410 towards something else. I think you would get more satisfaction out of getting something new than getting the extra channel on the 410h. You will one day upgrade because I know a tone chaser when I see one hahaha.

    • @davej8045
      @davej8045 2 роки тому

      Hahaha...Yeah, didn't really look at it as "chasing" but more of exploring sonic possibilities. I have a couple of guitars that only sound "meh" with the JVM that should be better. I couldn't bring myself to change out the neck pickup in a new guitar or the bridge in another, even though DiMarzio made me customs. I once got rid of a guitar that didn't ever sound very good to me with my original ("re-homed" solid states) amps and took me over a decade to find the right replacement. I researched the Friedman a ton before deciding on buying, (much like the Mesa and the Marshall that came before it) but the more I heard about the Trinity made me second guess myself a little after the impulse buy. I will definitely look into the amp/speaker switcher thing you used and linked to give me even more options. Started down this rabbit hole looking at Synergy, great concept but just not for me.

    • @davej8045
      @davej8045 2 роки тому

      You may have been more right than I was aware of…It only took a like day but I had a moment of extreme weakness and caved, upgraded to the 410. Found a new one on Reverb and the seller made me a decent offer, and I jumped all over it. At least there will be the right size box with all of the packaging for when the 210 sells. How does the Delisle stuff work with different Ohms between amplifiers and speaker cabinets or do you have everything “matched”?
