"It's not important to be important, but it's important to be nice."
That's wisdom right there kids.
I wrote it down in my notebook...
Scooter (German Techno Frontman): “It’s nice to be important, but it’s more important to be nice”
Thats a scooter text.
Often, adults need the advice more.
But Nice guys finish last..
Still popular in 2020? Thumbs up here!
Me and Mrs Jones 👍👍
what does it benefit u to get more thumbs up?
@Gordon Payne CW, still going strong, was recently in KC.
Beun007 facts
After all these years, he's still got it--that wonderful voice.
Singing a future classic while smoking a cigar, too cool during those times.
That's a bad Mofo!!!
@@elena-lc4uk Excactly!
d k lol he was lip syncing
What u say!!!!... now that's swag before swag was swag
😎
Even in his later years he still had it. Great performance at the end.
Damn! What a voice. Pure smoke and silk.
His voice hasn’t changed at all...
Because there was no auto-tune in their day they were real singers!
@@jackhank2694 ...Yessss
The voice of velvet.
Went for dinner with Billy Paul once and he kindly gave me a shout out at the gig later that night. Nice guy.
In 74’ I was a freshman in high school. Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. When this song hit the radio I was just awestruck at it’s beauty. Such an amazing voice, lyrically impressive, and oh the amount of soul it had. Being a skinny ass white kid from Orange, California, my world my box was SoCal. Why this song reached me I don’t know. I’ve never been the same since and thank the heavens for Billy Paul and this effort.
Well written👍👍🙏
I graduated Camp Lejune High School in 2013...small world lmao
Will Rich ....74 was when I first heard it on the radio as a request I think. WJ N C Jacksonville, North Carolina. The Rowdy Richard Roberts Show lol. I don’t have any idea when it came out. Chances are I was still on the west coast when it did.
@Boomer sounds like a guitar.
Hello from NC! I was like 6yrs and remember hearing it even that young. I appreciate it now in a way I couldn't at 6, but I loved it even then.
Look at Billy. He's in a very special class all by himself.Rest in peace Sir
The smoothest song ever recorded!
Stupid comment Your not God you can't judge try saying it's your fav song. If you were to ask Billy himself it's not necessary his fav recording by himself even his all time fav song by any artist.
@@meonly8071 Who the heck are you to come on here and be so rude. Clear off
the orchestral arrangement in this classic is awesome still sounds good in 2023 thanks billy paul for the memories God bless u sweetie 😊❤👍👵💐
Aiight... My mans done sang the whole song with a whole cigar is his mouth? Well damn.. they dont make em the same no mo' 🤣
Reo DaGreo That’s what I was thinking 🤔
Facts
The drummer from Cheap Trick used to drum with a fag in his mouth.
I went to a Harold Melvin and the Bluenotes concert back in 93/94, support by Eddie Holman. Up in the balcony was Billy Paul, he wasn't on the bill but everyone cheered, stomped, clapped for him to come down and sing, which he duly did. Of course it was probably all planned but it was a magical moment and an added bonus that I will never forget.
Would have loved to been there
Ant Adam wow
How wonderful!
😢
Such a great song...definitely one of my favs.
The first time I heard this song I was on a date at a cafe and I asked the guy if I was his Mrs. Jones? He laughed and said yes. It was a nice final date.

Old ladies hush y'all cheating 2 with. Sheeeeeee annnnnnnnmmd Mr. Pooooookieee
This man sounds incredible while smoking on a big cigar while today singers can't sing with a studio full of electronics to help them, now that's talent.
Oh man how much did my mother LOVE this song....she was dating a Mr. Jones, that was their theme song. She played that song until the record no longer had grooves in it to play. She then bought a DVD of the song. Every time I hear that song, I think of my mother who's been passed for over 10 yrs. R.I.P. Mama.
What a Beautiful Sweet Memory! ☺️❤️
The guy can still sing it after all this time. Great stuff.
🤔 he passed away in 2016
@@bobwatson1162 Sad, he was good.
It's been 48 years since I first heard this song...and it still moves me.
RIP Billy Paul.
What? I didn't know he passed away. I love this song. So full of soul.

So glad I was around when Motown and Philly hit the radio
bronco devil Motown, Philly and Memphis and Muscle Shoals! I was a white kid in a lily white suburb of Omaha dialing in the FM soul station every night. Al Green, all of the Great Gamble and Huff music, Stevie Wonder, Curtis Mayfield.........
Just an immaculate song that I will always love, and as Billy proves at the end of this video, has still got the power.
I wish you rainbows Billy.
I had the pleasure of watching Mr. Paul perform this classic song some years back at York College in Queens, NY! What an amazing experience! God bless his soul.
Awesome Song...Awesome voice...Awesome man!
Billy Paul. RIP ♡
I remember as a young kid my dad took me to the record store and I met him... he met and talked to everyone, humble man
Mrs Jones didn't have a smartphone otherwise she might have been caught
Mrs. Jones: turns off phone gps
That's why so many mrs Jones these days are caught because of the cell phones which has led to so many failed marriages lol
True 😂😂.
Especially meeting at the same cafe everyday at six thirty, lol
True , so true !
Saw Billy Paul in Halifax UK - he looked poorly he had cancer - But it didn' t affect his voice - that poor guy stood on the stage doing what he loved ! - He only sang just " me and mrs Jones " pitch perfectly - He was helped onto the stage & helped off - But while he was there singing there was nothing wrong ! - I managed to get billys autograph that night & I ''ll never forget that big beaming smile of his & how courtious he was ?
It was a few month later a saturday if I remember rightly -It was announced on the news Billy had died only a small piece before the weather ! -I could not believe that for such a great singer ! -I went upstairs & Played a couple of his albums that night before I turned in !
We had lost anothe great soul star from an era that will never be replaced
Billy Paul R.I.P.
Wow. Were losing all these great legends. Songs like this touched your soul and heart. The artests singing to this great music had great meaning and feelings to it. When a man could'nt express himself of how he felt through his own words to a woman. He expressed himself through love songs. Beautiful stuff.
The atmosphere in this recording is so palpable and that we are watching this story play out in our minds.
He is singing with the cigar in his mouth 🤩 that’s talent

Rest in peace, Sir Billy Paul! Thanks for the music. Yes Mr and Mrs Jones still sounds good even today. One of the icon songs ever sang.
The perfect bookend songs: While nursing a stiff drink, play this track & follow-up with another Philly classic of the same theme- the Manhattans classic "I Wish That You Were Mine".
I'm glad to see and hear the story behind this song , because coming up the word on the streets it was about drugs. I'm glad this clears up that theory . ❤️❤️
So I am not the only one that has heard that story. Good to know.
Let me share a little info on this classic hit. It was written by Cary Gilbert , Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff. Arrange by Bobby Martin. Released September 13, 1972. According to a interview that Gamble and Huff gave, they stated that the idea of the song came from a eating place they frequently went to. It was downstairs from where they wrote/recorded some demos. They notice that a man and a woman would seem to meat each other there every day at the same time. Have a bite to eat and just talk. Before you know it, they would both get up in leave, going in 2 different directions, and do the same thing again the very next day. And so there you have it, that is how the song "Me and Mrs. Jones" song was born.
They must have been planning how they are going to get a chance to bump and grind. Mrs Jones's don't just talk and hold hands.
Thanks for the history. Very interesting.
I think this song is the other way around
A smile appears on my face every time I hear this . My grandma rebuked for belting out this song one day while we were working in backyard I was only about 13 years then. It was many years after I got the meaning. “Bernice “ bless her.
I was SO little when this was out! I remember riding in the back of a blue Chrysler, my feet couldn't reach the floor. Even then I could sense him and Mrs. were up to no good! 😉😅😅😅
Me too
@Casual Cool Dude 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 I sure don't wanna be that bish!!!
Still dig this tune......after all these years. It really is an R&B classic.
This song is timeless❤. I still play it 2 this day. I had just started JUS when this came out. No one can sing that BILLY PAUL. RIP.
That song has stuck with me for over 40yrs
Total Classic. This song will transport you right back in time.
One of my favorites and its philly sound mad props to Billy Paul
It’s a beautiful song plus his voice is fantastic - classic
Good to see all these greats still here, they represent so many of the greats who have passed on, who endured much suffering owing to the sin of racism.
Have liked this song when my mom use to play it. Still like it today. 2/12/2020
I listen to it every day
What a song, absolutely a must in a playlist
This song brings back memories of a happier time in my life. I was 15 when it came out and full of good expectations about life. Also you cannot help but be struck by the sadness of the situation in the song.
Qué tristeza ??
Porque estaba triste ??
@@susytanunez3167 I personally found some sadness in the song because he can’t be with the woman he loves all the time
THIS WAS SOOOOO KOOL
I was a kid in '73, but knew it was a great song....

I remember listening to this song in late 1972 while driving around with my step dad
A timeless classic...
What a beautiful, soulful voice! RIP Billy Paul
I also love "Thanks for saving my life"..Billy Paul OG from Philly
Another memory was in my friends dad's station wagon listening to Simon and Garfunkel on an 8 track. Lol. He always seemed to be listening to that.
My grandfather dated a lady named Mrs. Jones and as a kid, I sang this song to him. Memories
I WAS AROUND TWO YEARS OLD WHEN THIS SONG CAME AND MY FATHER WAS STILL ALIVE WHO DIED OF LUNG CANCER IN 1975 I STILL LOVE THIS SONG TO THIS DAY ONE OF MY FAVORITES 💯💯💯🔥🔥🔥😃😃😃👋🏽
I remember when I first heard this song near December of '73. It was near Christmas, and albeit that I didn't know necessarily what the song was about, I thought the song was very melodic, good vocals, and somehow, it just lent itself pretty well with the holiday season at that time. This is STILL one of my all-time favorite songs.
Just another level of cool when you sang with the cigar in your mouth and sound as good as Billy Paul did
These were my teenage years and I'm so glad to have been a part of it !
♥️...LOVE , LOVE , LOVE THIS SONG .....thank you ! 🤗

" Me and Mrs Jones"...the mother of all the classic.
That's, one of my favorite songs, by Billy Paul.
1973 the year I graduated from H.S. , I was on my way to college to find my Ms. Jones and more. AIGHT! This is when MUSIC was really, really, REAL! When men was MEN and Women were Women. R.I.P. Mr. Billy Paul
This song is so COOL and SMOOOOOOOOOOTH!!! LOL

Gasp! One of the sexiest songs ever written!🙂
After all these years Billy still got it.
One of the greatest all time songs!
Always has been one of my favorite songs!!!!!!
Still is one of my all time favorites...
If you’re truly a singer, no matter how old you get, you’ll still have it.
You know you are cool when you can sing silky smooth with a cigar in your mouth.
😂😂😂😂
Wow now that's true raw good music from the vocals to the instruments to the story the song tells. Just simply fucking awesome
Love that Philly Sound.
Still sounds incredible!!
Still sounds good. God Bless him!
This is adultery to the max, sin sounds and feels so good until you and your family suffer the payback.
Well said I married a Mrs Jones
Get over yourself. Beautiful song, I believe less about the cheating, more about the sadness of the individuals and the situation.
You said it bruh!
Its not about what we believe its about what God says when we stand before Him.
That's a bad MF to be able to sing with that cigar in his mouth...Fine too! Love your voice.
I love these old music and the yester years 👍👍👍
It’s amazing how a lot of the all-time classic songs were so out of pocket and wrong! But you just can’t stop listening to them because they are hits!!
One of my top 10 favorites of all time.
Sang with such feeling....... yo don't get songs like this anymore.
In 3-2020, he still had a nice, strong voice. Good song.
Ok no wonder I love this I was conceived to this in 1973 plus in Philly he reminds me of Sammy Davis Jr met him once a really class act Billy Paul
Yes. One of the most memorable songs...ever
He still got the pipes
His voice never changed! Awwwwh! 😍
When I hear that song I look at my wife sideways with a fake smile. 😏

This was in my recommendations and I subbed so fast! We were tots hollering about Me n Mrs Jones. I thought it was about a sweet old lady in his neighborhood...…..lol~ Many Artists should take heed to his speech on respecting your fans!
