Lyrics:
Me and Mrs. Jones
We got a thing, goin' on
We both know that it's wrong
But it's much too strong
To let it go now
We meet every day at the same cafe
Six-thirty and no one knows she'll be there
Holding hands, making all kinds of plans
While the juke box plays our favorite songs
Me and Mrs., Mrs. Jones (Mrs. Jones, Mrs. Jones, Mrs. Jones)
We got a thing, goin' on
We both know that it's wrong
But it's much too strong
To let it go now
We gotta be extra careful
That do we don't build our hopes up too high
Because she's got her own obligations
And so, and so, do I
Me and Mrs., Mrs. Jones (Mrs. Jones, Mrs. Jones, Mrs. Jones)
We got a thing, goin' on
We both know that it's wrong
But it's much too strong
To let it go now
Well, it's time for us to be leaving
It hurts so much, it hurts so much inside
Now she'll go her way and I'll go mine
Tomorrow we'll meet
The same place, the same time
Me and Mrs. Jones
We got a thing goin' on
We gotta be extra careful
We can't afford to build our hopes up too high
I wanna meet and talk with you
At the same place, the same cafe, the same time
And we gonna hold hands like we used to
We gonna talk it over, talk it over
We know, they know, and you know what I know that it was wrong
But our thing is strong, we gotta let 'em know now
That we gotta thing going on, a thing going on

It's 1972, and I was attending my first dance in Junior High. This really pretty redhead girl walked up to me, and asked me to dance... And a slow dance at that !!!...It was Me And Mrs. Jones.... Man, I was so nervous... That was nearly 52 years ago !!!... We dated through Junior High and High School, and got married in 1980. Three daughters and seven grandchildren... But every now and then we play this song, and slow dance... And we're magically transported back to the gym in 1972.... ❤
Man this almost brought a tear to my eyes, you got me believing in real love again haha.
As a 23 year old guy with lets just say an unfortunate dating experience so far I really started giving up on finding my "sould mate" this got me believing again.
Thank you for this nice comment.
God bless you and your family
@darth2073 Hang in there... When the time is right, it WILL happen. Just keep moving forward, don't give up the dream, and above all else, believe !!!!

I am 79 years old and my wife and loved this song. This was our song 🎵
The smoothest song about adultery ever made. Lol. I love it.
Isn’t it just? I fucking hate the thought of cheating but I fucking love this song.
I hate the song but can't stop laughing to it.
🤣🤣 That's the truth
What a laugh !
Makes it seem so right😩❤🎶🎵
My mother played this song every single day when she came home from work back in the 70's. Not once, but back to back several times. I was about 6 years old at the time. She played this song so much, I know every word to the song, I sing it perfectly, and when I hear this song playing today, it immediately take me back to those moments as a child sitting under my mother as she play this song. WOW! I miss her so much. Rest In Peace my dear mother. **Tears**

I am 60 years old. I never missed Soul Train. Chicago born and raised like Soul Train. I still play this song today.
Every Saturday at 11:00 am in Chicago.....Wasn't it..? And of course as at what 11:46 the "Soul Train Line" would start after commercial break......
I'm 58 Chicago born , Berwyn raised. I looked forward to Soul Train every Saturday as well
@southloopsoxfan My extended family in Berwyn still. I was south side around 95th Street. 32 years. I never did get into American Banstand 😆
I was born in 1961 in the GDR (East Germany) and was able to listen to the West Berlin radio station RIAS Berlin in the 70s..
“Mrs. Jones” was also on the hit parade, which I still really like to this day.
In addition to the great music of our own country, there were so many pieces of music added - it's overwhelming: in addition to the well-known ones that are constantly in our ears, there are also such gems as Mylène Farmer, Joe Bonamassa, Leonid & Friends, Lexington Lab Band... .

They certainly do not! The trash they call music today is sickening. BTW I'll be 67 next month.
That's because we don't make love no more. But in 30 years from now, we will look a todays music as classics and reminice
My opinion 70s music is the best music ever made.
60s,70s,80s,(90s probably in), the rest is garbage.
80was pretty good better then now

I'll take the 80s

The best song of 1972.
"Beautiful, sweet comment. Indeed music like this is timeless, can never get enough. Outside of Gospel, best music ever. Love love love, obsessed with this music. "
the orchestrial arrangement in this song cannot be beaten its awesome
Done by the late great Bobby Martin
@@jeffjohnson2232 cool thanks for that 😊👍
I Was Married maybe
This was the "slow dance" to end all slow dances in the early 1970's.
Color My World by Chicago was also a classic slow dance.
Yep could get into some real frontal grinding.
And early 80s!
Slow dance...oh no the horizontal mombo
This song, The Floaters “Float On” and Heatwave’s “Always and Forever” were the last dance songs back then 👍
I’m a Jewish kid from NYC and watched Soul Train all the time
Good job
Great. Have you seen the Back Stabbers video? A big hit but not as big as some others. The camerawork on the lead singers is great. Thanks.
Billy Paul is a legend. There is no one who can cover this song and do it justice.

Most definitely
What a voice. What a song. Made the world a better place, in my opinion.
Yeah, it "made the world a better place" for everybody, except Mr. Jones.
Absolutely and for all his illegitimate children, my man Billy was slingin and singing about it.
My mommy passed in 2020. This was one of our favorites!! Makes me cry.. 😢❤
Mr Jones will be so mad when he finds out LOL
well, apparently, he's down at the New Amsterdam staring at the beautiful women with the guy from the Counting Crows, so no wonder she's looking to get a little love on the side, she's probably feeling ignored....i mean, can you blame her?
This was my baby brother's absolute favorite song. Whenever I hear this song come on, I instantly think of him singing this song at the top of his voice with such joy. He suffered from mental illness for years and was brutally murdered in jail in 2009. He was 27 years old. I love you with all my heart, Michael Lorenzo West, and miss you.

Love this song. My dad used to kill this song at karaoke. When I say that I mean everyone would literally be cheering, and no one wanted to sing after him because it was perfection. How he just performed it, is exactly how he sing it on the record. What a legend.
Uh....yeah....that’s because he was lip-synching, like a lot of televised musical performances in the 70s, including “Soul Train”. 99.99999999% of the time if you’re watching a video of someone singing on a TV show in the 70s and the song sounds just like it did on the record, it’s because it IS the record! Lol
Still a legend, though.😊
@@jeremycrandall2899 daaaaamn
I used to think that the reason why so many musicians lip-synched on TV shows in that era was because they didn’t want to risk potentially sounding bad on national TV, but I recently read that what really happened was that shows like “Soul Train”, “American Bandstand”, etc, started forcing musicians to lip-synch cuz bands like War were going on shows and playing extra long versions of their hit songs, and it was messing with the shows’ commercials.
