The epitome of the Philly sound that was all over late 60's/70's soul. Listen to that musical arrangement, just beautiful. More genius from Huff and Gamble.
“Has it ever struck you that life is all memory, except for the one present moment that goes by you so quick you hardly catch it going?”― Tennessee Williams

R.I.P. Billy Paul! I remember when this song came out! It was 1972. I was in kindergarten, President Richard Nixon ordered the development of a space shuttle program. It was Super Bowl VI: The Dallas Cowboys defeated he Miami Dolphins 24-3. And Shirley Chisholm, the first African American Congresswoman, announced her candidacy for President. What a voice. What a song. Made the world a better place, in my opinion.
Yeah, it "made the world a better place" for everybody, except Mr. Jones.
Absolutely and for all his illegitimate children, my man Billy was slingin and singing about it.
Damn, Having your side Woman is just as good in 2023 as it was 1973!!! Love everyone please…

My daughter downloaded all the music she remembered I used to like. She told me she liked all those songs too. We went on a road trip and she played them all. I was so surprised and I loved her even more when she took the time to do this for me.
Hello Delores, how are you doing today?
I have been downloading all of these songs that my mother loved when I was young. I loved them also. Ironically, her name was Dolores also
Me and Mrs. Jones
We got a thing, goin' on
We both know that it's wrong
But it's much too strong
To let it go now
We meet every day at the same cafe
Six-thirty and no one knows she'll be there
Holding hands, making all kinds of plans
While the juke box plays our favorite songs
Me and Mrs., Mrs. Jones (Mrs. Jones, Mrs. Jones, Mrs. Jones)
We got a thing, goin' on
We both know that it's wrong
But it's much too strong
To let it go now
We gotta be extra careful
That do we don't build our hopes up too high
Because she's got her own obligations
And so, and so, do I
Me and Mrs., Mrs. Jones (Mrs. Jones, Mrs. Jones, Mrs. Jones)
We got a thing, goin' on
We both know that it's wrong
But it's much too strong
To let it go now
Well, it's time for us to be leaving
It hurts so much, it hurts so much inside
Now she'll go her way and I'll go mine
Tomorrow we'll meet
The same place, the same time
Me and Mrs. Jones
We got a thing goin' on
We gotta be extra careful
We can't afford to build our hopes up too high
I wanna meet and talk with you
At the same place, the same cafe, the same time
And we gonna hold hands like we used to
We gonna talk it over, talk it over
We know, they know, and you know what I know that it was wrong
But our thing is strong, we gotta let 'em know now
That we gotta thing going on, a thing going on
Gracias amigo xxxx thanks

They just don’t make them like this anymore music from the soul and the heart luv it
In 2024 I'm a 63 year old Australian Male but back in 1972 I was looking forward to 1973 and being a High school student while Listening to Billy Paul singing about how and when to end seeing the other person and their friends not to mention the cafe that the two of them chose as their favourite meeting place songs regarding affairs within a marriage and the possible outcomes of sorts. With titles like Me and Mrs Jones of course one more was by Mary Magregor called Torn Between Two Lovers, had the voices that were used to tell the stories of adultery sounded shit we probably wouldn't have been listening and inturn buying the single's we needed singer's with open mind's thank you 70'S Your musicians and musical styles can't be copied Wayne Dunlea
I was born in 1994 but man do I wish I was born during the soul train era.

The best song of 1972.
"Beautiful, sweet comment. Indeed music like this is timeless, can never get enough. Outside of Gospel, best music ever. Love love love, obsessed with this music. "
70 years old English whitey, and this will always be the iconic version of this song, but may I recommend a superb cover by Freddie Jackson.

Those days when music had a purpose;passed a message
Speaks so well to any of us who were ever in a clandestine relationship for whatever reason. Always loved this song and Billy Paul's delivery.
Billy used to pull into my buddy's fathers Shell gas station on Alvarado Niles Road in Union City, CA back in the early 70's and was always friendly and so damn cool.
Lovely story, thanks for sharing
The epitome of the Philly sound that was all over late 60's/70's soul. Listen to that musical arrangement, just beautiful. More genius from Huff and Gamble.
It sure is that arrangement and his timing!
That Philly sound was amazing back in the 60s 70s and 80s Huff and Gamble could write a love song and it would be a hit
I'm 81 I still love this song memories!!
This is the standard by which Soul Music is measured.
this and lou rawls and hot chocolates emmalene
Can't disagree with that.
Thanks for the reminder.
“Has it ever struck you that life is all memory, except for the one present moment that goes by you so quick you hardly catch it going?”― Tennessee Williams
My mom bought me my first tape recorder in 1972 and this is the first song I recorded. Rest In Peace Mami..tears..
Bring back Soul Train!!
Quite aside from Billy`s silky voice the brass and strings and backing vocals on this are just sublime, heavenly.
Yes the instrumentation is beautiful, none better.
This is one of greatest love songs that became one of the best songs of all time!!!! Me and Mrs. Jones by Billy Paul!!! Gamble & Huff are the best songwriters in the music business making one of the best songs and hits for more than 50 years at Philadelphia International Records I want to say thank you for making the best hit recordings that made them legends!!!! Thank you !
This song is really a masterpiece , Billy has a very beautiful voice ❤
Mon premier amour trop trop cool
I remember buying this vinyl recording as a young kid in the early 70’s. Oh, man….What a soulful singer, and to think of today’s music? It’s not the same. Rest in peace, Paul Williams (Billy Paul). I’m sure you and Sam Cooke are singing to God and his orchestra…..❤️from Ireland…..
...and I am 74 years old and still meet at the same place.. the same cafe.. the same time... holding the same thoughts I used to have when I was 16, 20... going on towards the 2nd millenium... never ever forgetting the same old blues.. the rythm.. the sounds I used to listen to.. dream of.. live... love and be loved by till the end of times..
I am 74 and understand.
Hello dear how are you doing ❤❤❤❤🌹🌹
What a singer R.I.P. and thank you for all your beautiful music!

R.I.P. Billy Paul! I remember when this song came out! It was 1972. I
was in kindergarten,
President Richard Nixon ordered the development of a space shuttle program.
It was Super Bowl VI: The Dallas Cowboys defeated he Miami Dolphins 24-3.
And Shirley Chisholm, the first African American Congresswoman, announced her candidacy for President.
"Me and Mrs. Jones was No. 1 on the Billboard charts! Gamble and Huff are prolific songwriters and composers! - Thank You!
@@kianpa1 That was the style back then, we're talking almost 50 years ago! That suit probably cost,$1,000 too! I agree Don Cornelius could have got him a better wardrobe. But the music was dope and timeless! Infidelity songs sell records!

I absolutely love this song! I feel transported to a better time.
🤣
Rip everyone who had a part in creating and showing this masterpiece 🙏
On December 16, 1972, "Me and Mrs. Jones" was number one in the United States. A very original song, masterfully sung by Billy Paul, where a married couple have an extramarital relationship which despite being aware of the sin, cannot resist.
Still my favorite song of all time ! That voice, rhythm , takes you away
