- Torchlight III is by no means the best or most innovative dungeon crawler in recent memory. It cobbles together pieces of its stages of troubled development, and while many of them work, some clashes are noticeably present. Gameplay is fun in short bursts and when fighting new, major bosses, but the grind often feels like more of a chore than an exciting path forward.
The economy, too, feels more like a relic of a free-to-play game than something that should be this barebones in a full-price experience. Nevertheless, while the underlying structural issues diminished the full product, I still enjoyed the romp. Though the aspects of Torchlight III that miss the mark dampen some of its enjoyability, there is enough light that shines through to make it an interesting experience anyway.
you could tell the developers were over this project by the end and just wanted it released so they could move on :(

Henry Bradley yeah, I think this was mostly a development hell and push and pull between what product the devs wanted to make, what the publisher wanted them to make, and what the fans wanted from them.

@@TwistedFoo I paid 60 bucks for Polar Express on PS2 as a kid, that game was 30 minutes long and NO fun.
I do love that this game is on console, which enables me to play couch Co-op. More games need splitscreen, heck console need more of these arpg games!

Diablo 3 was also really really shit on release, I really could not enjoy it, I’m about to go in TL3 in a minute after playing Diablo 3 this week with a buddy. Lets see how I think about it haha ;)
Nice, a fair review from someone who understands it's a good simple game with flaws but very enjoyable.
A nice a-rpg for beginners and people who enjoy simple things and fun.
I was sceptical of all the criticism and thought I'd enjoy it regardless, but it is so damn lifeless. The combat wasn't satisfying, the quests and story was boring, the skills/talents system is dreadful, and the "fort" was pointless (and the ui terrible). One of the worst games I've played in recent memory which is disappointing because I loved torchlight 2.

Just play diablo 1&2 or torchlight 1&2

I loved tl2, and while I think 3 def isn't as good as 2.. it is different. much easier to pick up and play. can sit on my sofa with a controller, kick back and slay some dungeons. 56 hours in and that's just with one character. still haven't tried the other classes yet
When it comes ARPGs, you have to match or exceed what's currently available. With titles like Grim Dawn, Path of Exile, and Diablo 3, why would I ever buy T3!? And let's not forget Torchlight 2, which is still an awesome game even in 2020.
I understand what you're saying but I do not agree.. Happens to be on game pass so I will give it a shot for free anyway.
EDIT: Scratch that, it's running at 30FPS lol - No thanks. Not on a Series X, and from reading around I doubt we are going to see devs support the game by giving it a 60FPS update for next gen...

I don't know if it's because I've never played a Torchlight game or I chosed the wrong class but I'm not having fun in the game. Played around 4 hours and that was it.

Hmm. I don't no what this statement tries to achieve but imo a game should feel and plays complete upon release.. especially if it's the 3rd entry in the game.. Like come on buyers should have better standard nowadays.
@@vivid8979 Getting a complete game on release nowadays has become an exception rather than the rule, sadly.
Torchlight games have always been a release and done game, they threw out a couple of patch fixes and released a mod workshop for TL2. So why people are expecting them to continue to develop this idk, consider what it is now as pretty much what it will always be, with a few patches to fix all the stuff that's broken.

My biggest issue is gear management. I just sold equipment and pickup more than I've sold in the world for example
It's not even made by Runic Games. It looks worse than TL II, and not even close to TL I.
The replay value in Torchlight III is off the charts with its endless loot and dungeons.

I play these games as an ice breaker whenever I am playing a long RPG or single-player game and needed a change of pace, much like fighting games and beat em ups
I'm playing Torchlight 2. I played it years ago and wrote a 2-hour review saying they had to make Torchlight 3. That was like 7 years ago. Now that they finally made it, I'm stoked. A lot of people didn't like this one (so far). I knew I was going to wait for the reviews and patches that usually come after a game's launch to get it.

Every arpg since diablo 3 has the same ''curse''.Not good enough day 1....This game is fun and has a solid base but needs more content and QOL improvements and bug fixes.These will come hopefully fast enough.They already announced new content and fixes in about 2 weeks

Major disappointment, early access was obviously done for cash boost as was far to late in development and near release to make the massive changes needed

I think for me this is an awesome game.
Another let down...and people need to stop putting TL2 on some pedastool, just cause this kinda sucks too. That and this one still are both short, and both still got the lame end game boring dungeon map crap. This game needs an act 4 and some post game content asap. If it doesnt get those...I got 100 bucks id bet in 6 months tops this game will be forgotten about.
It's fans fault. They had to completely redo the game cause everyone through a little entitled hissy fit about it being an mmo and RUINED the entire game.
Torchlight II was 100x better
Let us give the developers some time to improve the game over time. They may give us good updates/changes to make Torchlight III live up to its predecessors.

Man, I REALLY wish I had waited. I bought it at full price and it is NOT worth $40! TL2 was great fun and a steal at $20 on Switch and is actually better than TL3. Like others are saying, I'd seriously wait for a big sale or just don't buy it at all.

Also if you play with a friend you can't trade items you get, and your cap'ed at 20 potions and no mana the game in my opinion just finished it is a step backwards.
A development cycle ruined by executive bullshit. A shame, the first two are decent.

The big problem with this game which is always a deal breaker is endgame. I've played hours at level 60 and hardly any legendaries drop, even after the recent patch that was supposed to increase drop rate. So it's very jarring to have legendaries drop often during the level up process to have them become near non-existent at end game when they are the most important. Long story short, this game is not worth $40, you won't get much out of it. It's like a gacha or mobile game that they decided to push out in it's current state.

Just like part 2 i will wait for psn flash sale of 8 to 9 bucks. Its alot easier to overlook these games many flaws when you pay almost nothing for it versus the whopping 40bucks.

It's a shallow, boring game. But when I think about it, TL 1 and 2 were as well. Pass.
Finally someone else being honest about em all. I played TL1 and TL2 also. Both of them are short as hell too. Everyone praises TL2 as some holy grail and I will never understand why.

I haven’t played it but I just love the gfx and the concept of the classes. But gameplay does look boring and simplified.

2. Its not free-mium. There is no cash shop.
3. Yes its a loot grinder, Torchlight always has bene, nothing new there.
4. It does need some work, hopefully they will allow either mods, or release more content for it.
5. The leveling isnt that bad I went from 1-60 on three characters in about 30 hours.

How old was not remotely an MMO player game that allowed you to co-op? Want to add an MMO also a co-op address devil three not an MMO also a co-op MS devil for as shared world areas I’m still not really an MMO because you are in an instant phone every mission and all your co-op team is with you, so narrow in MM over but it comes closest with some shirt world areas where bosses but mostly still just instanced so that’s one torchlight three is it’s also not an MMO
Why would anyone pay for this, when Path of Exile is totally free? (OK, in endgame you need to buy some bank stashes, but that's all - and you really do not need them for playing through)

Avoid this game if you are on PS4 Pro. It's a buggy mess and that's putting it lightly. With framerates so low you might as well be looking at a series of screenshots.

honestly it's kind of a mediocre game, it looks like torchlight . but it's gameplay is just bad. it's almost like they took a step back to torchlight one, with how linear it is. and still failed in that aspect.
This game is trash, the absolute worst of the series. So full of bugs that ruin the whole experience. I hate it.

This looks like a mess. Torchlight 2 was great, and then they go and do something like this.
Same stuff Diablo 4 was going to do. Stray away from the loyal user base and focus on kids with no money playing on their parents phones.
Corporate idiots with zero knowledge of what real people want. Only focused on idiotic focus groups consisted of inconsistent people that aren't gonna play the game anyway.

TL2 was great,but TL3 is even better. IDK why everyone's trashing on it,like TL1 and 2 was basically just, spam SPells and Potions,that's it, TL3 made a huge improvement on fight mechanics. AND ALSO, TL2 had legendary items,im not sure about TL1, but i honestly dont even know why they put it there, like, i've played thousands of hours on Engineer,Outlander and embermage,with NG+++++ i cant even remember how much, it was a lot... all those times grinding and only 1 legendary item dropped like wtf, drop chance is like 0.00001% considering the fact that there were tons of Legendary items. AND ALSO not just legendary items, Gear sets rarely drops too, TL2 was great,but it was also crap in a particular way.
