Ignore the haters…..well done . I’ve had a lot of experience with original unmodified beetles in the snow, and can tell you that the main thing holding them back, was clearance. I ran studded narrow tires all around and surprised my buddies with where they would go. Yours looks great and should be lots of fun. I saw a video on a lifted Jetta, where the guy stayed with a stock shock in the rear and made extensions so it would fit, giving the rear a better ride.
Wouldnt pass inspection in our state without fender flares!! Tires out too much but thats a nice looking ride! Looks like it is fun to drive ! Knew alot of guys my age back in the seventies took 60s VWs and made bajas !! Fun to bang around with in the meadows with the 4 speeds!! Thanks for the video!
I've heard of people using hockey pucks, kind of like a body lift, to drop the subframe down to help with axle angle and to help correct the camber from a lift.
Love what you did with the beetle I've been wanting to do this with a diesel beetle also but put one of the little truck bed convertions on with it keep doing what you doin
I gotta say, awesome concept. The mechanics need some fine tuning such as maybe tweeking the parts selection, but the concept is awesome. I've been looking at baja bugs and this is a great modern interpretation of those. I also like the fact that you keep the ac and other creature comforts. I'll have to research this more.
Lol now smyth ute it 😂 Im doing a jetta,i did air lift and ill be running usual nice wheels ,but i was kicking around the idea of getting a set of truck tires like those and throw em on some stock wheels ✌️
Should of pulled the AWD system out of a 4 motion or Audi to get all the benefits of a lifted vehicle. A TDI wouldn't of hurt either. Plan on doing this for my step daughter and possibly doing one for my wife and myself.
4 Motion would definitley be cool, it was looked into but a lot of welding, cutting, and fab is required. This thing is an ALH tdi. i say you should definetley build one for yourself.
@@bens-tec I missed the part in the video about it being TDI. But caught on watching 3-4 of your videos back to back. I definitely am considering this.
I think I would've looked for a sidekick or a Suzuki Samurai and put the vw body on that. It would be safer. I don't feel that what you did to it is safe.
I lifted a 99 Corolla put 27” mud tires on it. It looked cool but man did it destroy performance. Turns out a 99 Corolla doesn’t turn 27” MTs very good.
@Bens-Tec jeep springs in the front with mk5 strut tops and a 3 inch f-150 Strut spacer drilled to fit mk5 strut tops. rear I used vr6 wagon springs with coil over adjustment perches and stock rear shocks with checy 1500 shock extenders.
@@bens-tec ya they sell the kits through smyth Ute but I’m a bit on the broke side lol so I’m making it homemade 😆 the kits are 3,500 plus tax and shipping and they look nice when done, I’m making mine into a camper style, and gonna move up northern Canada so my plans are to jack it up and eventually do a Audi TT rear end swap and make it AWD.
In your opinion! Would it be possible to weld up some spacers/carriage for a 2+ lift for engine and front suspension? Maybe put less tension on cv joints?
Yes, I have seen people fabricate subframe spacers and steering shaft extensions for these things! Check out the “lifted watercooled VW”group on Facebook!
Naw, what you should have done is get a $2500 Smyth ute pickup kit. I did it to my 05 beetle tdi and 06 jetta tdi. Made them far cooler and useful. They get constant attention and questions. Next plan turn one of them in to a rally racer with a wing.
All that and it still won't get out of the driveway in a little snow . An old one won't have a bit of trouble with a little snow . I know live and learn
As a former 8 year old, this build is absolutely valid🫡

Dude, love your style. Modify-break-fix, wash rinse repeat!
🤟🤟🤟

Your post it wall makes me a proud man!!!

I heard using the f15 shocks make the ride hard.. you can use the oem shocks using extenders
I just got 2023 Jimni suspension for free. I'm gonna try to fit the springs on my VW Caddy. They look similar but heaps longer. 4 inch lift I reckon

i put those same tires on my geo tracker and they are awesome tires for cheap
I have the GLX but I had an omni with the super swampers on it the 28.5 inch
Saw a lifted classic Beetle drive though floods caused by Hurricane Milton
Thanks for sharing, cool toy.

That looks so sick!

pretty sick dude!
I have jimni parts. Gonna try lift a Volkswagen with it.

Dem suspension welds though man, #whistles
Looks great. What wheel brand & size are they? Same on the tires. Very cool
Bought the wheels and tires on eBay! Basset 15” wheels and some cheap Chinese offroad tires
extended axles its what you are missing to fix the issues
Make a real Baja bug cut off the roof add a roll cage , remove the fenders
Salut bonne idée NEW BAJA BUG 👍
Vw adventures 🎉
Did VW make an AWD Beatle
im sitting at 32inch from the ground to fender all around in a 2000 beetle
that is awesome! what did you do to lift yours?

Gonna share this on my page and shout you out if that’s ok I’m gonna do this to my Jetta Ute I’m making
Fine with me! I’ve always been interested in making a Ute

Bro this is crazy 😂
How long did it take to get it lifted n running good?

Honestly it just needs more aero and a bigger stereo.

I'd kinda like to do this with my '02 Cabrio
