Another iMovie editing tutorial! This time I show you how to save tons of editing time using one of iMovie's more obscure features: the Clip Trimmer. Spoiler alert: it's not just for trimming clips! Just another one of the pro-level features you'll find in this "amateur" video-editing software. Enjoy. MK
So helpful. Thank you. Subscribed!
First off great videos. Well made, thought out and narrated... When I go into the Clip Trimmer and try to drag the clip over to line up with an audio marker the clip does not slide. Any idea why this would be happening? using version 10.1.10. Thanks again.
nevermind, figured it out.
Best tech teacher on UA-cam. Can't thank you enough for your excellent tutorials.
Michael, I'm 70 years old and as a 2024 New Year's resolution, I decided to take up video recording and editing as a retirement hobby. Hi Michael, I just wanted to join all the previous comments: you are the rock star! Thanks a lot for sharing all the information about editing and using the iMovie. This trick with a clip trimmer is extremely helpful for me, since I edit a lot of music videos. Thank you once again for all the knowledge and inspiration!
Wow Michael you have to be the best I have watched on UA-cam. Finally I found a MAC I MOVIE EXPERT! I use IMOVIE all the time to do my totally amateur videos for courses and social media -- and that is about to change because of your tutorials! Thank you!!
I’m just learning. Watched a bunch of different videos with tips. Yours are definitely the most clear, straight forward. Thank you.
Another Kinney home run. Superb video Mike. Thank you (again!)
You bet!
You are absolutely killing it. Fairly new YT channel here, and I try my best to give quality content to my viewers. Your videos been a great help!
I would have never known about the slip edit until you explained and demonstrated this feature. Thank you.
Michael, you're an incredible teacher. I've been sorting through various iMovie instructional videos and you are head and shoulders above all the rest. I wish every teacher I ever had in school was as even half as good as you. Thank you sincerely for such clear and thoughtful videos.
You just got a new subscriber. Excellent content. Very detailed explanation. Thank you.
Thank you a thousand times over! I have been struggling through exactly what you stated near the end where I have meticulously timed out clips with music and then adjust something earlier, creating a vicious circle of hours of readjustments. You just added countless hours to back to my life:-) Also, your style of instruction is perfectly paced. Thanks again!
Thank you Michael for all of the amazing content. I learned video editing with Imovie and keynote from your channel and did all the editing of videos on my channel.
yes he's content is great. I also learned from his channel for my work.

Excellent tutorial. Excellent teacher. Thanks.
Kudos Mike...your vids are very professional. I just bought another iMac and decided to not include Final Cut as what I do now is not as involved and I want a simpler editing program, so I'm learning iMovie, mostly from your vids. Thanks, glad I came across you.
Wow Michael...I just stumbled upon your tutorials for precision edition and am so impressed. The style, clarity and pace of your demonstrations and explanations is perfect and in just one video I feel like I’ve learned so much! Thank you.. you have a new student 🤓

Thank you for such great detailed oriented videos. I teach tech to elementary students and often times I use Imovie to make videos for then. I have learned a lot from your series.

Calm, informative and creative. Thanks a lot.

Michael- These are wonderful videos. I am producing videos for my job and these are really helpful.
Love the way you explain this and show examples of when it's great to use this feature! Thank you!
You are a lifesaver, Michael Kinney. I just started my youtube channel and spent hours on editing (it needs work, trust me) but this is such valuable information!
Thank you, I started editting with iMovie recently and these shortcuts and tips were very helpful and not something I've seen in many other imovie tutorials!
Very good, clear explanations. Thanks Michael. I'm happy to subscribe!
you rock kid keep up the work you remind me of my old self bud Lol
Your videos are helping me a lot!!! THANK YOU VERY MUCH
Very helpful. Great video!
ooh! now slip edit, that is useful, I've been editing my next songs video and been so frustrated in having to reposition all the other clips over the audio after editing just one, just like you said! thanks dude!
Thanks a lot for these videos! You have shown me a lot of hidden features, and how to be a lot more efficient in my edits.
Thank you Michael that was a nice video with a potential to save a ton of time. What is like about the video is not just the editing tip but putting it into a context.
Great video, really instructive. Thanks very much.
loving those iMovie tutorials!! Please more more more :)
I'm a fan now! Thank you!
Great video, Thanks for the information you present on your channel.
I have ALWAYS wanted to know what the clip trimmer was for! What a time saver this will be to sync up clips with music. Thank you!
Thank you for this Michael.
These videos are fantasstic. So helpful! Thank you!
Nice! I keep learning new “tricks” from you. Of course, I could just read the manual from cover to cover and spend days and days learning everything, but I really like just bumbling through it and learning as I go - with your help.
Another great tutorial we so much good stuff packed. thank you.
Wow...I watched this before creating a post with one of my song clips, and I FLEW right through getting everything how I wanted it with the timing and clip editing! Thanks so much!
Thanks man! Useful tips for me 🥰
Awesome.. I Laughed out loud when you described a timing situation as "Something is -bothering- me." Yes, that is the precise word for it when the timing is off with something during an edit. It can be very subtle. Next thing I know it does indeed turn into a ripple affect adding hours to the process.
Thanks, that was very helpfuil!
Michael, I definitely love your tutorials..such a priceless collection of great tips and moves. Thank you!
Great videos! So useful! Thankyou
great stuff I have used iMovie for over 2 years and I learned something new today.... thank you
Fantastic channel by the way! Forgot to mention! Subbed!!!!
Me 2 lol
Hi Michael, Thank you for creating all the wonderful tutorials, have learned so much, have Subscribed.
Thank you so much for your tutorials. I don't want to "move up" until I've mastered i-movie a bit. XO, Kelly
Aloha Michael....great tutorial, thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Well done Michael
that was dope. big ups!
Super value. I am about to work on aligning music and video. Your video is a video life enhancer!
Thank you so much!! Great tutorial!
Thank you. This is so useful.
Thanks!
Thank you!
You are a legend man! Thank you so much!
Thank you so much for this! I make animatics and syncing up the slides with music is such a pain. Gonna try this now to see if it speeds things up
Awesome video... helping take away the frustration of not having access to FCP or Premier at the moment.
I appreciate the slip edit tip at the end! I find that some of my graphics cut too early when trimmed, so this helps!
Mate! This is genius! Thanks so much! The whole series is just great! A little slow on the show but this is pure gold!
I edit my movies for memories simply - have loads of clips with my children doing all sorts of activities and want to make them into nice short movies and so I do not want to buy premiere or any other software and it looks like iMovie is much better than it seems - I was learning from experience and trial & error and you, my dear sir, are making me stare with disbelief at what this free software can actually do!
Lovin' it!!! Keep it up and you've got my sub for ever until the end of days!
Oh my god thank god you explained this.. I would like to save several short pieces of the same clip, is that possible? I liked and subscribed.
You're a superb presenter of stuff.
I’m working on a video of my daughters wedding. I set the Photo Duration to 2.0 seconds, but when I add Transitions (1.0 sec) it effects the duration of the Photos I’ve already entered. This forces me to go back and change the Duration of each Photo (lots of additional editing). What am I doing wrong?
really cool video 👌
Great tips taught through great teaching skills
Love it. You are my iMovie guy:-) I am already a subscriber. Nice voice:-)
I learn new things, great tutorial
Thank you for the video. Very informative and helpful. iMovie amazes me on how much it can do.
Tysvm. This is a great help.
Can you please make more iMovie videos? This is so helpful it's unbelievable
Great video.
Fantastic!!! Those things scare me less now! Trying them tomorrow. I've been editing the "hard" way!😣
Thanks Mike!
great videos!
love this! Thanks
Hello!!! 1st time I see your videos & have to say I am hooked!!! Very educational!!! Have a question: how can select several clips or segments from same file?!? Would appreciate the help!!! Many thanks in advance!!!
