Why did you have to go and make me want a Maharani like that? Hahahaha. I have the Frydek, Black Velvet, and Silver Dragon. I love them all. My silver dragon is also from Costa Farms and I immediately repotted it and noticed it was planted in those mesh netting things. I would repot yours whenever you can. I also want the Dragon Scale... and now the Maharani. :D

Well thanks for the video. I believe you have a pest problem and the soil seems to be too dense? The Black Velvet isn’t struggling because of “Overwatering “, which is basically impossible to do. It’s dying from being eaten alive and lack of humidity? I would suggest cutting it back, ridding it of pests and watch her grow. Also the Polly is a good project for air layering. Then you won’t have so much of the trunk showing? The Frydek is Gorgeous!! It’s my favorite Alocasia. The spots on the leaves are from pest. Which I don’t know. I had a leaf come out with them all over. After treatment keep the humidity higher since Spider mites don’t like moisture. The Melo and Maharani are basically the same plant. Due to the thickness of the leaves they have NO problems. If all else falls try misting them occasionally. Things will work out.

I think they’re petioles on Alocasia you’re referring to. 😉 The stem is the woody, trunky part at the bottom, like on your Amazonica, where you chopped it off and it sprouted again. That’s the ‘main’ stem, I think. Then the petioles come from the leaf nodes on that..
Plus, also I love how the _lauterbachiana_ looks like a Philodendron 'Ring of Fire' or 'Jungle Boogie'… at least, since they’re all aroids, if one Alocasia fails, there’s likely always a Philodendron species or hybrid available that gives the same look! With half the stress! 🤣

Knock on wood, but I never seem to get spider mites on my Alocasia, even the ones in regular room humidity. Now my Dieffenbachia, that's another story. They own the monopoly on spider mites in my house 😂

I first seen the dragon tooth last year and of course I fell in love with it. I’m not big with alocasia's in general but something about the dragon tooth I had to have it. Anyways last year I paid $85 for a 6inch then it rotted within days. I reached out to the company and they replaced but that one didn't last long either. So after buying it, replacing & 2 shipping cost I'm like not again at that price but its nice to see the price came down maybe I’ll finally get to have one. And not buy from the original seller. Haha. Btw great collection you have

Knock on wood. No problem with spider mites with either my Alocasias or Calatheas, I have had them for over a year now and have average humidity in my rooms. Because everyone kept saying that Alocasias and Calatheas are spider mite magnets, I order predatory mites every six to eight weeks and put the little satchels into the plants. Never had any problems with mites. If they were there, they were eaten up before becoming a problem.
Best is: you don't notice the predatory mites anywhere
