  • The white cam (dorman 83232) is for tilt and the green one (dorman 83233) is for non tilt.
Removing the locking plate on your steering wheel, to fix your turn signal cancel cam, can be a tough job without the correct tool. I made my own tool out of scrap metal. If you had the correct threaded rod or bolt to match your steering shaft, you wouldn't have to weld anything!
Using Dorman part #83232 to replace the cam i ran into an issue with the cam grounding to the locking plate and causing the horn to be on constantly. With a little modification to the Dorman part, i was able to correct the issue. Reinstall all the pieces and honk away.

Thanks for creating this. It provided all the info I was looking for in a simple enough way that anyone should understand. Good job with the ingenuity on the tool you made as well.

I have that same steering wheel, but I have the tilt steering column. Got mine on the lift today and started working on it again. Felt good.

Mmmmm lift! That’s awesome! I’d love to have a lift one day. Sorry to hear you’re had a rough month. Nothing like a little garage therapy to sort out some thoughts. Take care buddy!

When I was much younger I would use brute force to get that off and back on. Nice job on the DIY tool. I do not know why but I was younger I never thought about making tools.

I like your low buck (hillbilly ingenuity as you call it) tips. Not everyone, me included has 50 grand to blow on a restoration of a car. These tips help, Nate.
