You know it's Gojira when all three reactors are headbanging to different rhythms 😂
that or messhuggah!!
LMAO, excellent comment.
Honestly thats just because they are dumb 😂
Gojira is mostly in 4/4, they are focusing on the riffs instead of the drums
This song is about Joe's efforts to Astral Travel. He was stuck in his body thus "the heaviest matter in the universe" was holding his soul in his body. The name of their recording studio is "The Silver Cord", which always brings us back to our bodies like a teather. The song Flying Whales is about what occurred when he astral traveled and the whales taught him some things ;) Their lyrics are quite esoteric and planet conscious. These guys are stellar. Silvera is actually about being against the eating of flesh or being vegetarian. It's all hardcore music but the message is always in there somewhere. Oroborus is also about renewal the serpent eating it's tail and regenerating like the phoenix. Enjoy the journey because the songs are next level with or without knowing their meaning.
Thanks for sharing That.
The art of dying have the most killing drums and vocals and groove in all gojira history
Flying Whales or Art of Dying are some popular great ones to check out as well. Cleaner songs like Born in Winter are great too.
Remembrance Live at the Link Alive(this is some oldschool Gojira from 2003) mario, the drummer was 22! Pretty heavy, but digestable heavyness, if that makes sense. In the forest also at the Link Alive concert, awesome song written by Joe (Mario’s brother) when he lived for over a year in the woods, some technical drumming as well. Indians, live at the Vieilles charrues concert, some heavy, tech drumming. So much more to recommend but i don’t want to overwhelm you. Really hope you’ll continue reacting to them. They’ve become much more progressive now and less death metal. It’s their natural evolution, said the frontman Joe. I like their evolution, even though, i really hope their new album that will be released next year, will go back to some technical guitar riffs combined with Mario’s lovely fills. Fingers crossed.
I would start with The gift of guilt - live at the brixton academy
And than go back to some good old heavy Gojira, Remembrance at the Link Alive.
Gojira are known to be even better live than the studio version, and for most of them, it’s absolutely true, better singing, more energy, just everything. These guys are worth a watch.
Some of my favourites, in no particular order:
1. Wisdom comes (live Brixton Academy)
2. Remembrance (The Link Alive)
3. Clone (Studio)
4. Ocean planet (Live Rio)
5. Oroborus - The Eurockéennes concert
6. Blow me away you (Studio & The link Alive)
7. Love (Live Rio)
8. Space Time (The link alive)
9. Silvera (Studio)
10. Art of Dying (Live Vieilles Charrues)
Follow this guy’s advice for the next two songs.. can’t go wrong.
we have the same top 3 :)
Probably one of my favorite songs from these guys.
I have 4 words for you: The Art Of Dying
The introduction part was really good. Learned some new things, Thanks.
Yup. that's the exact reaction i had when I heard this song for the first time twenty years ago. Imagine never hearing this band before and this being the first song that you hear. And it satisfies every time. An absolute metal masterpiece.
Good vid, love to see stuff from home. Gojira is some perennial truth, my dudes.
Gojira's "Toxic Garbage Island" from this album, or "L'enfant Sauvage", the title track their fifth, are both phenomenal.
97 on top 100 great metal albums? Come on, it deserves to be way higher
I was attracted to Gojira for the crushing music.. but I stay because of the lyrics. In my opinion, it’s important to analyze what they’re saying, to not miss the spirit of what the group is about.
For example, in this song, the final lyric sums it up.. on a psychological/spiritual journey (through the metaphor of astral projection), the writer finds that the heaviest matter of the universe is... love. Ok... what the fuck? Love? Yes. Gojira blows away the concept of ‘death’ metal, by creating their own unique and life-affirming brand of music.
We usually dive into the lyrics but sometimes we get lost in the music! That explanation makes a lot of sense, thanks for posting!
Great reaction and looking forward to more Gojira
Also check out:
Mastodon - Blood and Thunder
Baroness - Chlorine and Wine
The Sword - Freya
Opeth - Harlequin Forest
Sepultura - Dead Embryonic Cells
I think the heaviest matter in the universe is the song itself.
For Mario's drumming chops check out Esoteric Surgery or Art of Dying
Ohhhh there are so many more amazing Gojira songs for you guys to love. Keep listening!!!!
The gift of guilt
Clone
The Art of dying
L'enfant Sauvage
Flying whales
Toxic garbage island
All must
Mario is definitely part of the best drummers in the world right now. I personally don’t think you can rank Musicians this way.
Larnell Lewis (multiple bands including Snarky Puppy), Baard Kolstad (progressive metal/hardrock) Phil Collin (you know the legend) and I could go on for days, are all top tier in my book and they all come from different musical backgrounds
You guys should do love, fire is everything, inferno live, the link, rememberance,Indians, backbone, and flying whales
one of the best metal drummer, along with Tomas Haake.
If you guys want crazy double bass pedal then you gotta check out Where Dragons Dwell live from Hellfest 2013. Its like 6 minutes of nonstop double bass and an incredible performance overall!
Gojira - Remembrance
Sounds like a machine gun, drummer
Pretty sure the song is about opening your self to love
🙏🏽Esoteric surgery by Gojira 🙏🏽
"Listen to how fast that double kick is going!"
Give this man some Infant Annihilater.
Not to take away from it, annihilator is incredibly impressive, but Mario is straight legging this. He's not swiveling or using triggers, He's actually hitting these drums hard as shit
@@Jrat7259 Good point.

Did not like the "growl" also - but did like his voice at the end. Drums were the best part.
mario is a fucking beast

I second that
6:16 Guy in the center seems to know the song very well.
We mentioned this before the song started. I (guy in middle) was the only one that had heard it. We always mention who has and hasn't heard the song. If there is at least one of us who hasn't, we label it as a reaction.
