2:21 That delivery and emotion "56 million!?!" felt real. Harry Shearer really is a talented voice actor
30 years ago the Simpsons was really something. It's embarrassing that the show is still running. A lifeless husk of its past self.
I wish some careless person would leave a pile of unattended money for me.
a rested employee is a vigilant employee
My Supervisor did not think so when he caught me sleeping, but that is OK knew that he did took photos of him sleeping after he wrote me up, send it to the head person of the state facility and too the district offices ,,, He stop making rounds after that
It is if you give them like 10 minutes to readjust to the world of the awake
Smithers: Approximately $56,000,000, sir.
Mr Burns: $56,000,000?!
Smithers: Don't hit me, sir.
This is a different mr burns from later seasons who completely relys on Smithers for everything
To the point of even forgetting how to drive in later seasons. In this episode, he was able to drive under the influence of alcohol.
Should have made the deal where they could “either have the washer and dryer where the lovely Smithers is standing, or....what’s in this mystery box.”
Everyone was considerably more grounded and intelligent in the early seasons, especially season 2.
Never noticed that after burns told the workers to be alert. The Security Officer/Guard in the Guard Shack was asleep right behind them.
Did that when I was working security sleep a lot,, Set one of those door alarms that alerts people when they pulling in the drive way, up, It went off when his car pulled up the drive to the gate waking me up, We talked he left I went back to sleep. 12 years working 11 to 7 on weekend as a security guard, probably worked 1 hour a night slept the rest.. They lost the contract to the place, and I did not get hired on with the new company,, I cried, easy job part time job that I ever had
@@altha-rf1et Bruh you were living the dream, what does a man have to do to get a job like that?
Old seasons are SO much better!
Prefer the non computer animation and the less refined look of each character. Better writing too
@@EugeneOneguine That's more a problem with effort than process. when on song the new animation can look great with the right staff and directors. but it's a rarity as Simpsons long ago reached the point where they didn't really need to put forth that extra mile effort.
You really gotta admire the attention to detail, here.. the inspectors seen in this episode are the same ones used a few seasons later where Homer has to go to college (season 5) in another inspection, minus the main guy of course.
And the hole in his clipboard is still in the next scene during the bribe part
I'm amazed how uncorrupted the inspector is. Why can't there be more men like him today?
you forgot the money burns put in his pocket... he didn't give that back.
There are you obviously just don't hear from them cause they do their job and hence can't be caught doing shady stuff xD
For nuclear safety inspectors, they have to be. Remember, Fukushima and Chernobyl happened because of laxed regulations.
I love Burns' old voice
I know, and it's also interesting that he played a random thug in one Seinfeld episode as well
i love that the inspector is competent and mr burns is being kind towards smithers.
I love how the inspector says that he'll overlook the bribe from Mr. Burns. But he can't overlook the 342 infractions that he saw and threatens to shut down the power plant. The inspector still walks away with the money that Mr. Burns shoved into his pocket.
He knew that his ¨character¨ would be so poisonous to Mr Burns he wouldn't notice that he still has the money. Either that or the money only covers him overlooking the attempted bribery.
No one seems to notice the Inspector still ends up walking away with whatever Burns stuffed in his pocket 🤣
You may as well take money that was stuffed into your pockets by another person.
At last showing how it really looks when using a binocular and it took a cartoon to do it.
1:03 I love how tired of Burns’ excuses the inspector is.
The irony of the iranian and american flags on the nuclear inspector van...Old simpsons really was genius
Actually it's the flag of their fictional state. Now I know about the running gag of their home state being unknown but in the episode where Burns runs for governor (a very early episode) that flag is portrayed as their state flag with the slogan, "Not Just Another State".
@@thefox47545 I like how you specify "a very early episode" when it's the episode of this video hahaha
Most obesity in the USA is because people have forgotten the victims of nuclear war. Need to apologise and use thoughts to retrieve the nuclear bombs.
The Manhattan Project produced two different types of atomic bombs, code-named Fat Man and Little Boy.
I love how this scene mirrors another scene in a much later season where I think 2 of those background inspectors come back and instead of bribing them with money, Burns bribes them with "The Box"
Im gonna overlook this felony. That line cracks me up for some reason
I forgot they've used the same plot point of nuclear safety inspectors twice. The other scene with safety inspectors in the episode in the later season (Homer Goes To College in season 4 or 5 I think?) is a lot funnier!
You can actually see the box the box guy in the background here when they arrive
@@mcaddicts gentlemen, I have decided that there will be no investigation, now if you excuse me ill leave.
Here's something you almost never see said on Simpsons clips ..that the early seasons sucked more than later ones
0:32 - If you look closely, you can see the black male and yellow female inspectors from the later episode ("Homer Goes to College") when the inspectors return.
Homer can’t get there on time? The clock in the security guard hut shows 305PM! 😂
A powerplant have several shifts to keep it running around the clock. He might just started his shift but still a wierd time to start your shift at
Like that he says good day right after burns tried to bribe him.
I love those sounds Burns makes when he's waiting for the inspector outside of his office.
Lmao the violations are so funny! Love how their radiation meters immediately go crazy
How much can it possibly cost to fix this place up?
Approximately 56 million dollars sir
56 MILLION?!
Don't hurt me sir.
You know Mr Burn can easily afford that but in the end he is too greedy and cheap
The huge amount of respect I have for that inspector not taking the bribe really tells you how corrupt the world has gotten 😅
*56 MILLION?!*
Frankly I'm impressed with the animation consistency in keeping the nukage hole from earlier when he finally hands Burns the list of violations.
I'd have taken the money then still failed him.
What's he gonna do, complain that his bribe didn't work?
Mr. Smithers would be of a witness. Yes burns bribed the inspector, but the inspector took it regardless. The inspector should’ve known better & reported burns for it.
They must be police judging by a siren
“Hold me Smithers”
The main inspectors from Homer goes to college are here in the background
I liked how in that episode, Homer caused two meltdowns without any nuclear material.
Mr. Burns : Hold me Smithers
Smithers : 😁
Only thing missing is a piece of graphite from chernobyl's destroyed reactor No.4. You did not see graphite because it's not there!
Just resting my eyes
I think there's an animation error. If you look at 0:17 the tie of Homer is different than the one at 1:04.
Having recently watched Chernobyl, this makes me rather uneasy.
Nuclear waste bucket in the breakroom lol
"Approximately 56 million dollars sir" *"FIFTY SIX MILLION!?"* "Don't yell at me sir"
I notice the inspector never gave back the wads of cash Burns shoved in his pockets...
How could Burns be running such a power plant and still be wealthy
Pretty simple explanation. He siphoned off funds that would have been used to repair his power plant to line his pockets. This in turn prevented the issues from getting fixed resulting them in getting worse or breaking down. This is why it was a huge funds crash at once.
Old Mr burn sounds like starscream
Serves you right Mr burns
56 MILLION
Mr. Burns said calmly
0:05 I hate when that happens!
Isn't $56,000,000 chump change to Mr. Burns?
In the 90s, 56 million was a lot more money. It was an estimate-which means it would have cost more. He was also not a billionaire in season 2.
It probably would have been cheaper for him to fix the violations than run for governor, though out of character.
Mr. Burn's new voice is not up to par. It doesn't drip menace and hypocrisy like the old one.
@@Rayman1971 It sure don't sound like it. Maybe Harry Shearer was still perfecting Burn's voice?
I actually feel sorry for Burns in this scene
0:33 A couple of these inspectors made a return in "Homer Goes to College."
"okay men, Geiger counters on!"
- Chernobyl has entered the chat -
The golden era
He is a billionaire, $56,000,000 wouldn't even be half his fortune but he's so cheap.
In the episode where he goes broke he says he's worth 200 million, his biography says 100 million and Smithers says it's considerably less than that.
56 million would be a huge denr even if it was 300 million.
I do not think he was a billionaire in season 2. Likely made a decent amount of his money from the tech boom-after he lost all his money in a bad gamble of historically successful products.
1:23 thats offering a bribe
The emphasis on two makes me think he overlooked some of it
2:36 the glass is a spook
0:59 In Spanish is way funnier because he says "It's the first times that happens"😂
So . . . did the inspector give back the money in his pockets?
1:16 the radiation disappears for one frame before the scene changes
Smithers: 560000000$
Burns: 56 are you kidding me.
56millons dollar 💵 to fix your Nuclear plant 🌱
Dam 56 million dollars I think I rather take the felony than pay that off 😂
Why does Homer always drool?!! Makes me SICK!!
1:46 the clipboard has a hole in it from the other part haha
2:21: $56 MILLION?
😂
This show used to be so good
100 reactors in the promise lands
Turn yellow
56 Million?!
Well, when he sells the plant to the Germans for a 100 million they estimate it would cost another 100 to bring it up to code. And Burns makes a 50 million profit buying it back from them.
Sounds like the soviet union about 1991.
2:16 56 MILLION!?
'FIFTY-SIX MILLION???!!!'
✌️
Wow Burns sounds off
I noticed that too. This was pretty early in the show's run and I guess they hadn't quite settled on how all the characters should sound like
I think this was the very first season 2 episode in production code order. At this point they hadn't yet settled on completely everything.
darthen856 a man named Christopher Collins voices Burns in the first season. This was the first episode made production wise and probably the first time Harry Shearer voiced him. So I’m assuming he was going off what Collins did
Question for a real simpsons fan: every purposeful detail in this show is there for a reason. whose flag is that opposite the american flag on the inspection truck ( 0:25 ) and what is it's meaning? i fell like it's some high-brow or deeply thought out jab at some country or organization...
Copied from another comment:
Actually it's the flag of their fictional state. Now I know about the running gag of their home state being unknown but in the episode where Burns runs for governor (a very early episode) that flag is portrayed as their state flag with the slogan, "Not Just Another State".
0:40 That not normal backround radiation..that chernobyl level💀
Is this Harry Shearer voicing Mr Burns? Because he sounds quite different in here
Burns had 200 hundred millions dollars 56 millions is not that much considering he has good crédit
Vin Maison No one wants to spend that kind of money without purpose.
56 million is not that bad considering he probably is a billionaire at this point and time( I think) actually how much money would mr burns have at this time. I know he gets downgraded to bankrupt to being part of the billionaire club to have to having between 900 million and 1 billiion dollars.
Did the inspector put the money back?
You can see the Iranian flag on the truck at 0:25
Valter Fara yes because a flag for a nuclear inspection being Iranian is totally predicting Iran and American aggression
3.6 Roentgen not great, not terrible.
Season 2 episode 4.
56 million dollars?!!!!
The nuclear power plant New, awesome I love nuke power, oil obsolete, gas cars the best, burns as great as trump. President burns
Does anybody else see Hugo from Bob's Burgers in the inspector?
These inspectors are probably the most realistic people in the Simpson Universe.
Well, except for Frank Grimes
@@Azikiel2602He's not realistic. He's basically Homer if that crayon never got stuck in his nose and never had anybody to support him, emotionally or financially.
Frankly they're massively underreacting.
