The ONE time Troy McClure isn't incompetent, he's too advanced for what he's trying to do. I fuggin love it
Fuck that shit. He seemed totally on-point when he was hocking that "juice-loosener"
Well Troy was an actor, he was just reading from a script, he didn't actually know about foundation repair
I would not say Troy McClure was incompetent. He is primary a salsemen and behind that an actor.
He sell whatever gave the best profits for him... If he make advertisment for bad products its not his incompetent...
He would be incometent if he really use the bad products he make adds for personal...

"Mothballing your battleship". Bit of period humor, at the time the Iowa Class battleships were being decomissioned following the Gulf War, but then in 1996 4 years after this ep they were recommissioned lol. And even now that they're re-decomissioned, we still have to keep them ready to return to service just in case.
Right. You never know when America will need to wipe out Grenada again.
I mean they're basically just floating artillery platforms, missiles have made them somewhat unnecessary.
@Nigel Cam Yeah but a missile is a lot cheaper than losing a battleship.
@Nigel Cam My point is a missile can easily sink that battleship and there goes that ship, everyone on it, all the money invested over the decades maintaining it, etc.
@Nigel Cam No one ever expects the ships to be hit and then BAM, another USS Liberty happens.

The first Simpsons episode I was recorded was the one where they made friends with that gay guy and Homer questioned Bart's sexuality. Oh my god, The Simpsons predicted Harabe!
Dr Pein The joke is, that something terribly serious has happened to the President, and yet, the news isn't focusing as heavily on that story as they would in real life, rather they are very quick to jump over to the light hearted "leaning tower of Springfield" story. In reality if something bad happens to the President, they will cover it non stop and won't give priority to a much less important story about a sinking house. So, that's the joke.
3:17 its Red Lenny, Lenny's Evil Twin
The half assed approach to foundation repair. Classic
Holy crap, this Repair guy is probably the most reasonable person in this whole series. Even after all the shit Homer said he still did the work and even offered to give him a free piece of machinery to help prevent a similar issue happening in the future. Wow.
homer that's dish washing liquid🤮🤮🤮
A washer is not something I'd refer to as a piece of machinery, its more like a bolt or screw
You're right. I'm not sure why I said machinery. lol
@@CyberSlayer128 yeah it's more of an appliance then machinery🤣🤣🤣
Yeah, compare him to how that guy was when the Simpsons basement was flooded, and then the guy only helped him out once finding out he was a Stonecutter (and it turning out to be a very simple solution of turning a wrench when earlier he told Homer he'd have to wait like 3 weeks to get the part to fix the leak, lol)
Sadly, the once solid foundation of great, great comedy that the Simpsons (as a television program) sat on for years has sunken so far into the ground, even the surliest of Joes can no longer save it.
If only they had spent 50 cents on that washer.
He doesn't sound so surly to me.

Foundation repairs are no joke. My family lived in a house with a sinking foundation and we called Olshan to get an estimate. It was going to cost $11,000 just to repair it using piers. The didn't fixing all the damage done to the house after the foundation was raised which would've cost another $8,000.
Yeah, the worse is having to admit you can't repair the thing and you have to give up the house to the mortgage company rather have it be condemned.
Next time use a patching trowel.

If you followed the steps in McClure's video, the repairs would be entirely cosmetic. So it's indeed "half-assed foundation repair." Such clever writing.
I love that you can see the "Q13" watermark in the lower right of the video, that was my home Fox Station in Seattle when I was a kid!
I like how the Simpsons apparently own a fan with no safety cage around it.
$8500 to fix it this is slowly happening to my house at the moment and it's estimated to cost about $60,000 to fix
Burn it down and collect the insurance money.

"8,500 dollars? That's it? Okay."
I never realized how dangerous the Simpsons fan was.
Never mess with a Simpsons fan.
8500 Sounds pretty cheap considering literally half the house is sinkin
8500 to fix that is quite the bargain tbh
I fail to see how Homer would be upset when homeowners insurance would probably cover that
Why is he holding a picture frame?
When was this in the video?
Around 1:30.
You're right. I thought that was the cassette case but it clearly looks like a picture frame.
Iol I never noticed that. It was on top of the TV before, maybe they cut out the part where he picks it up? Or somehow the animators confused it with the video box? Or maybe he's a compulsive fiddler and just likes to fiddle with things, who knows
It's a very subtle joke. If you go back you'll notice the picture frame was on top of the TV. Then when Homer discovers he doesn't have a patching trowel, he ponders what to use for a substitute. You don't actually see him grab the picture -- that might have been edited out later, or intentionally left out for the viewer to infer.
All of the visual gags with the slanted house in this segment are hilarious.
Old Simpsons is gold Simpsons.

“Leaving the Vice President in charge”
😂😂
Fuckin genius writing!!!
Homer never had the makings of a varsity athlete.
I'm no expert, and 8,500 '90s dollars was probably worth a bit more than 2020s dollars, but to me that feels remarkably _cheap_ for raising and stabilizing a house that already seems to be tilting somewhere in the neighborhood of 20 or 30 degrees.
Homer flashes his paycheck, makes $479.60 for 40hrs of work (pre tax), ~$25k annual salary. Accounting for inflation from 1995 to today, Homer would be making ~$41k a year from the power plant.
