  • Today we'll be creating a dynamic color palette using drivers and custom properties in Blender 3D. This dynamic color palette lets you change the color of any object connected to the material in a panel. This is super efficient and time saving for modifying your scenes and making broad changes.

    Really interesting. I recently made a node group that automatically gives you a complementary color pallet. But I didn't use divers, yet. This will be a great help to improve this nodegroup. :)

    Thanks for the Tutorial!!
    Also, There is a Custom Properties section in the Material Properties Tab so you can add the custom Colors (Color 1, 2, etc.) in there. For those of you who don't want to have to change between the Material and Object properties tabs.

    You can do that by using the "Attribute" node. A custom property is the equivalent of an attribute. Set the type to "Object" and name to your property name.

    oh, I followed along. very cool. 2 things happened: I made something that will be useful in other projects and I also used custom properties, which is something I try to force myself to use when possible because I know its powerful, it just takes getting used to. Blender Bob did a video on using a switch in a similar way a while back but it wasn't a video I could easily follow along to. Thanks Mr Shotty!

    UA-cam served me up this video RIGHT when I was trying to crack a general color system I could use across a bunch of projects. This is such a great idea, thanks for the video.

    Instead of copying the rgb values for color 1 and 2, wouldn't it be easier to just copy the hexcode instead? But over all, thanks to this helpful tip, it's definitely a good addition to workflow and process methods :)

    Hi! It is possible to have one color for face "A" and another color for face "A" and "B". So, keep changing with some property which of the two should be active? I can't have multiple configurations for the same face.

    Hey, I signed up for your pateron to download this file, and got this color pallete thing with 9 colors, was just confused on how to apply it to any models, I really liked that you had it working on trees and stuff, my question is do you make like 9 material slots, and assign certain faces to those colors? if i wanted to have that effect lets say on the monkey how can I achieve that?

    why not use the attribute node?

    • @drgabi18
      @drgabi18 Рік тому +1

      yeah, i got home and tested, you just need to put the attribute name in the name field and change the type to object
      much, much easier

    the fact that to this date the blender color picker has no built-in color palette selector is pretty underwhelming

    I'm still salty that they removed the ability to just right click on a colour and copy the whole thing as a driver. Think they removed it shortly after eevee launched for the sake of consistency. Not a fan.

    • @EmilySmirleGURPS
      @EmilySmirleGURPS Рік тому

      You can absolutely still do that. But it can't be a colour in a shader node, which I think is why you saw it when Eevee launched. So if you check out the Viewport Display section of a material, the color shown there can be used as a driver.
      I'd rather set things up the other way around, so I could pick one colour from my shader to use as the driver for the display colour :P

    follows along, gets to "copy as new driver", new blender doesn't have this option anymore lol
