Just finished building a truck slide VERY similar to the one you made, the main difference is I went with the 15 series 8020, custom roller bearings, 1/2" plywood, non-slip carpet, added two legs and a removeable partition 2 feet from the end. Very pleased with how well it works with my Tundra 🙂. The total weight is about 80lbs. I liked the idea that it is removeable, and the height is only 2 3/8". The cost was around $650, appreciate you posting your slide.

I like how you used the smooth corner on the front! I am getting a new cap with tool boxes and I am going to make a platform inside between the tool boxes. We put our kayaks underneath. That smooth corner would work great. I might go regular though and put the handles on the front...

I used 10 series in this build which is 1" x 1". If you need to build something to hold a lot more weight, 15 series 1.5" x 1.5" would be sufficient. Thanks for watching.
Well I like your idea. I was going to make something similar but out of wood. By the time I added it all up at home depot it was almost 800. I left it there and walked out. I can make your version without the wood and mount my stuff to the slots.

What do you think of adding legs that fold down underneath as you slide it out? That way a fully loaded slide could be removed to make way for boxes, bikes, raw materials. a second one could also be loaded for another purpose such as camping, fishing, etc..
That's a great idea and would work great. I have some 180º swivels that mount to 10 series 8020. I was going to use them to mount a tilting solar panel to my truck's roof. I need to get busy.

In your thought process did you ever consider installing C channels on both side of the slide bed, near the door; to provide over tipping and a stop? Or how Bout legs at the end? I wonder because for my purpose I want install tools and Milwaukee drawers. So for my end results I would like a 90% pull out, give or take.

I have about 4 Milwaukee packouts, might need one more. Probably about 150 lbs of tools that would constantly be on it. You think it would hold up
I could put about 200 pounds on it. Since I have a BedRug it takes some strength to slide it out. If the tray was on the steel bed or a sprayed bed it would roll out much easier. After building it I thought maybe it would roll better if I used skateboard-type wheels with sealed bearings. Any idea on what the unit weighs w/o the rubber mat? Nice concept and very clean end result. I have a slightly different idea to store a 6’ ladder under it but I’m using your concept for the slide. May make a vid. and will definitely credit you for the idea
The most expensive parts were the wheels that I chose. I probably would do different now. Second was the hardware used in putting it all together. (corner brackets) Third was the Saw blade for cutting aluminum. I would say somewhere close to $200-300 total. I did not need to add the rubber mat on top or the small d-rings. The 10 series 80/20 differs in price by the Alu market so when it's cheap buy it. Very easy to build if you are comfortable using a miter saw.

Depending on your skill level and what you decide to build it out of the cost could vary. Mine was made out of 8020 which is all bolt together except for some cuts. You can also order the 8020 precut. It's up to you on what to use and what your use will be. The homemade slide will definitely be cheaper than a premade one.

Try to use at least 1/8” thick C channel and that will be strong enough.

Thank you, it probably weighs in at around 20 pounds or less using 10 series. Very light but rigid.

Those alluminum bars are like 35 bucks for a 4 footer, it gets pricey, but I guess a full blown after market already built is like 1grand +
