Great thoughts, Michael. I have a 16710 coke bezel and purchased a Pepsi bezel. I change them out often, as it takes less than 2 minutes, and enables me to experience both for the price of one. Enjoy the classic iconic piece!
Beautiful piece! Not easy to find one with a sharp case! If you had to pick between the 16710 and the sub no date, which would you choose? I have an explorer I and having trouble deciding…
I had a very similar experience with a 16710 coke. Had to fly to get it with all cash meeting in a hotel. Worked out great unpolished all tags even original ad receipt bag. Love the gmt2
Yeah the ironic part of Rolex is they pretend like they only do things in the name of innovation and improvement but any watch aficionado knows that vintage Rolex’s are a million times better than their modern equivalents
Correct me if I’m wrong, but the pre-ceramic GMT has a 120 click bezel, which means you can use the the triangle as your timing pip. Pretty much you have a sub date with a gmt hand. Also 100 meters of water resistance is already more than enough anyway. Congrats on your purchase. 👍🏻
Wearing mine now and it’s my absolute favorite. I was considering the 126710BLRO and even compared the 2 side by side two weeks ago and you can’t imagine how disappointed I was about the new reference. How chunky and inelegant it looked to me. The 16710 has so much charm
Great Vid, Great Guy! My next purchase is a 16710, always loved it. My old 16600 SD is my favourite, then my recent Bluesy. Pre-ceramic is probably better, there's just something a little more special with the 5 digits.....
Congrats on the Pepsi! Looking forward to the Pepsi ceramic vs pre-ceramic comparison. I've got a 124060 and possibly looking to add a new ceramic Pepsi.
Buying your grail is like meeting your hero… when it’s done it just becomes familiar and you look elsewhere. Like dating the most beautiful woman for a year, you don’t see what a new guy sees in her
Great video and channel. Congrats on the Pepsi pickup completing a perfect Rolex duo. Enjoy your thoughts and ramblings about your watch journey. We can all relate. Cheers
Michael, i’ve recently fallen down the pre ceramic rabbit hole, came across your vids, and have now become a fan. I followed you on instagram when you mentioned it on one of your vids, but I think you’ve blocked me. What did I do wrong? 😅 Do you still have your 16600 SD?
@@SteelmoonWatches Thanks for the response. Maybe just insta playing up. Anyway, loving the watch videos. Lots of youtubers seem to miss the visceral side of owning timepieces, but I like how you cover that aspect. The feel, aesthetics etc. all the best
I’m wanting to trade my 2009 16610 for the 16710.I love my watch but I keep getting the itch to have the Pepsi. I haven’t had the chance to see them side by side and compare them.I don’t want to regret getting rid of the piece that goes with everything but I really feel like that blue and red bezel is my Grail. I wish I had the money to own both and I have babied the Sub to keep it in the best condition possible for the trade. I got a quote for my watch and 3k.Any advice would be appreciated since I know you own them both.Thank you 👍
This the watch that you can play around with bracelet and bezel interchange. My RSC allows me to get a jubilee bracelet on clam clasp as it fit perfectly coupled with the 3 different bezels combo, you practically have 6 different watches each time you change the combination and still remain true to the original looks. That is the beauty of the 16710. And if add another 2 ghosted bezels of the coke and pepsi to the mix. that option increases further. Is definitely a keeper for one who wanted to scale down on watches
I wish you told us more about what it actually is. For example 1) what year is it ? 2) Bezel: fat font, fat font with serifs or thin font 3) case: holes or no holes 4) tritium, Luminova or Super Luminova (can see by zooming in that it’s a post 2000 Super Luminova 5) Dial: serifs on the 5 second markers or not? Stick dial or normal dial 6) Movement 3185 or the very rare 3186? 7) Bracelet - date codes on the bracelet matching year of serial number? Could have had most of these answers if you told us the year or serial number but all these variations are good to know when buying one of these and would thus be important to your viewers. Superb watch however. I remember buying the exact same watch (on Jubilee which is rare) new from the AD in 2002 for $2400.
Does it have serifs on the 5 second markers ? You’ll need to look with a loupe. I don’t think it will because I believe they stopped serifs on the 5 sec markers in 2000. Would like to know because my Swiss only U series does have serifs on the 5 sec markers. What about yours?
You already know, that Iam unbelievably happy for you but here also for the crowd to show my support for an great guy with an great channel: Wear it in good health my friend💪🔥🎉
1 or 2 watches, that's the dream, I'm doing the same thing, the need Speedy SS 3816 and 40mm Explorer, would add a Sub if one came my way. The GMT looks great on you. Some here say you are a diver guy but I think the GMT suites you well, with your links to the UK, travel for work and also like traveling its perfect.
Do the sub and gmt comparison. I have a 16710 and a 116610 and I’m thinking of selling the 116610 and going to a 14060m or 16610 because I wear the GmT the most because I like the size
Last year I found my grail. A Coke collectors set from the original owner who bought it in 2001. Love it. My daily is a 16613…..my Coke is for special occasions and next up will be a Zenith Daytona. I’m in the 5 digit world too.
Nice Pepsi, congrats! What watches will you be selling? It would be good to get your advice on selling watches in general e.g. how to sell safely, where to sell etc
Currently in Manila and going to Tokyo next week myself. Are you able to recommend the shop you went to? I’m hoping to find a 16760 or 16710 Tritium Coke to purchase.
After watching your video, I could not help myself to purchase a GMT Pepsi. I live in Japan and fortunatelly easy access to excellet 5-Digit Rolex watches. I ended up picking up a GMT Master 16700 Pepsi, pretty much NOS condition one. Cheers!
Lovely choice Michael. What's the watch prices in Asia pre ceramic compared to the middle east and uk, better value?. Enjoy your videos and watch journey
Interesting video. Michael, I am curious however, you seemed to break down your watch preferences in two categories, the "Just time" category where you cite the Submariner, and the "date/cyclops/multi time" category for the GMT. With that being side, what does the Sea Dweller fall into at this point?
Good for you, mate. It's a great reference. I am the same as you, the 5 digits references is where I am at. Never cared for the inflated size of the 6 digits, own a number of 4 digits which are wonderful but that I wouldn't wear on a daily basis anymore. The 16570 remains my favorite reference, would love to complement it with a 14060M at some stage. Hopefully as late as possible, as my father owns one. PS: I find it interesting that you have now gone full circle from the days you too had a 16570, then went full 6 digits, then back to those references.
Michael the watch looks great. Congratulations fixing that beautiful watch. There is something special about those vintage aluminum bezel. I have a 14060m sub two linear that I absolutely love. I have three more ceramic Rolex but the maybe is the aluminum bezel or the noise bracelet but it makes it so special and enjoyable on my wrist. Again it looks great
A vintage Pepsi GMT is a heavy hitter. That’s the bottom line. I do agree with many comments though, the sub no date is what I associate you with first, and that’s a very good thing.
Great watch with a cool story. My colleague picked up a Tudor GMT while we were traveling in Cape Town. I was a little jealous that he had a cool story attached to that watch now. BTW I would still watch the channel if you veered off into other topics like fitness, traveling, etc. in addition to watches
Great watch Michael, in that condition it is truly a watch for the rest of your life! I have a Ceramic Pepsi Jubilee and also a 1992 Coke GMT Master II, and i must say that these neo-vintage GMTs are peak Rolex in terms of elegance and being true to the brand’s ethos! Don’t forget that you can easily (and cheaply) swap the bezels and the pre-ceramic cases look incredible with nice leather straps! A very complete watch in a complete condition, bravo!
