Back in maybe 1981 or 82, before MTV, Channel 20 in San Francisco had a show that played music videos, and I heard this song on it. Never had heard of the band before, or for years after that. 1988 started buying their music and saw them live in San Francisco in 1989. Still one of my favorite bands ever.
Will always love this song, my northern Irish Dad introduced them to me as a kid. And we got the dream of seeing them together live a few years ago, hoping to see them again in the near future. Music is so powerful ❤️
Glasgow’s barrowlands every st Patrick’s day for over 25 years ...only missed a handful ....traveled the uk to see the fingers and always have the greatest experience every time ..
I saw these guys play many times. I was 16 when I first saw them and I’m in my 60’s now but still feel the heat when I hear them play. It’s great to know Jake is still out there with the stiffies and belting out music that puts most rock bands to shame 🐸.
slf is a very underestimated Irish punkband. Songs straight from the heart and a historical view seen in retrospective concering the situation about 30 years ago. I love it. Cheers from the Netherlands.
Me and my friend waited behind after the Manchester apollo gig, maybe about l980 and I was in the queue with my programme in hand saying 'I'm gonna ask him for a kiss, I'm gonna ask him for a kiss' I got to the table and just said can you sign it to Tracey please 🤣🤣🤣
The Fingers were the best thing to come out of the island of Ireland during the 80/90s.. (excepting Philo, Rory and Van) Keep on rockin' in the freer world Jake and Ali!!
They’re from Northern Ireland though. They call themselves Northern Irish so therefore to respect their identity you should probably just call them that. If they identified as Irish and had an Irish passport then fair enough call them Irish but if not then don’t. Also it is a different country, we have a different currency, there’s a boarder, different passport and we have the NHS
Man saw em play this a few years back. Wish i saw em back in their youths but slf still smashed it. Seeing them get older reminds me of me getting older. Feel like im 20 but im 34 with an old lady and kid. I still got some pogo and pitting id do but damn how time flies
These guys and others from the era still tour y'know. Not like the old days, but good memories, and good vibes being in a crowd that loves it and doesn't keep those barriers between em like indie kids that glare at you for bumping into em
man! how good is this I cant stop watching it over and over, and even had my 13yo daughter watch it (Suspect Device) before her homework, Saw them in New York City around the release of Go For It.
I 1st had these dudes on cassette and the sound was raw and crisp. played em loud and heaps. As for Sex Pistols, got good collection on vinyl nd they helped create so may other groups/bands...i.e..JUST GET OUT THERE N DO IT. Shame Mclaren was involved but got the sound out there. Jonny Lydon--what an attitude--awesome
Barrowland,,Wow..Great venue..Cool Shit hole part of town though.. Should be a great show. Lucky you. I was born accross the street from the Sara Heed.. next to the Barrows.. That brings back memories..
I was born in '86 and my cousins were 16 and 17, they introduced me to punk in '87 and stiff little fingers have been one of my favorite bands ever since, to say greenday tops them is somewhat insulting, i picked up a greenday tape in '94 and i liked it a lot, but they're new stuff is a bit shitty.
Theres not that many punk bands that are amazing musically, Fingers are, But most are pretty normal, But what they say is soo much more important, and that's why them bands are the best in the World:D
Back in the day I saw 'Fingers so many times I lost count. Last time was Brixton in the '90s and I got a bit disillusioned because 'Ulster' was all a bit shuffle singalong and I thought the best days had gone. Maybe that was mee...My all-time best: Gotta Getaway (LP)/Alternative Ulster/78 RPM/Just Fade Away/Suspect Device/Two Guitars Clash/At The Edge/Bits of Kids/Johnny Was/Piccadilly Circus/Falling Down/Straw Dogs
why is everyone so negative about the sex pistols? Sex Pistols, The Clash, The Ramones and The Stiff Little Fingers are all great punk bands, and have created some of the best music of all time.
am lucky cos i saw the boys 1980 dublin tv club 19th nov might have the year wrong long time ago but by fare the best gig i ever witnessed it brings tears to my eyes to remember fucking the best act of all time
@JoeStrummer94 same things has happened to me at my school when I have used The Clash, SLF, Ramones, etc. for presentations everyone stares at me and asks me how I can like "old music" like that!
SLF are too cool for school but this thread ROCKS... Was gonna punksurf the Tube but started reading the comments. Thanks guys... It's the funniest thing since reading Please Kill Me!
I seen em twice, last time 2006. He was older and fatter as was I but they were fucking bad ass. I could only imagine seein em in the early 80s. Sadly i was a newborn in 83.. SLF soo amazinf live
Cetainly better than any of the show biz "punk" bands like the Clash and the Pistols. The Jam are probably better only because they were great and legit for a long time. But to me this is the finest real explosion of the punk movement ever. Johnny was, SD, etc. An absolute classic.
one of the greatest punk bands of all time and I had the privilege to see them in 2004 in Houston.
Lucky!!
Jimmy Reilly. Has to be one of my favourite drummers

love the 1950's style break down in the middle of this song!!
Seems like something Social Distortion would do
Doesn't everyone? 😉
@@jackiebrown7229 The doo wop thing
Saw them in the 80s. What a night. Best group I ever saw live.
Will always love this song, my northern Irish Dad introduced them to me as a kid. And we got the dream of seeing them together live a few years ago, hoping to see them again in the near future. Music is so powerful ❤️

My favourite song of all time bar none. Fantastic. Long life SLF
slf is a very underestimated Irish punkband. Songs straight from the heart and a historical view seen in retrospective concering the situation about 30 years ago. I love it. Cheers from the Netherlands.
Wow
Never see this again
Unreal from Oz
One of the best bands of the era!
............Of my lifetime.
Total classic! Was so good growin' up with this calibre of band around!
Explosive...it was a reflection of where they lived! I fucking love it!
Excellent. I'm going to see them tonight for about the 10th time in 30 years.
If you see this i hope you are still going mate.
My best 2 gigs were SLF at Manchester Apollo early 80s.Raw energy and total madness for every song.Crazy stuff.
Agree totally, I was there!!!!
Saw them last Monday and still buzzing from it, they were amazing as usual.
Jake is just Brilliant....fantastic voice, and in those days not bad looking either!
I have always wanted to hear social Distortion cover this song. I think that Mike Ness would rock this one.
The second live concert I went to see as 14 year old. Ipswich Gaumont 1980 I think. Brilliant then and still doing it..
The Fingers were the best thing to come out of the island of Ireland during the 80/90s..
(excepting Philo, Rory and Van)
Keep on rockin' in the freer world Jake and Ali!!
1st seen SLF, Middlesbrough Town Hall, 1981. 14 years old, Amazing.
I agree. Too young to have seen any of them, kills me. But luckily I discovered them, get to listen to them, everyday
love SLFs great bass lines!
How does the bass line go then?
best punk band ever and from Ireland! love it!
Northern Ireland..... different country!
Barbara Blair no, same country. How's brexit going? Yeah. That's what I thought.
Darren Walshe yes! From IRELAND

It’s the best. My favourite of theirs

I was born accross the street from the Sara Heed.. next to the Barrows..
That brings back memories..
Youve just about summed it all up. Suspect Device is one of my favs, along with Fly the Flag and Alt. Ulster
