SLF made my youth a better place to be. Every bus stop, every bottle of cider, every pair of martains, every bike jacket and every girlfriend. It was good being 15 years old.
I saw Stiff Little Fingers play twice when I was a student at the University of Leicester in the early 1980s. A very good live band; and their first two albums - particularly the first one - a great commentary on the 'Troubles' in Ireland at that time. 'Suspect Device', "Barbed Wire Love' and 'White Noise' are all great tracks - and really show the reality of growing up in Belfast at that time in 1978 when the album was released. I always preferred the band's second album 'Nobody's Heroes' - I think it's more melodic than the first - and there are great tracks like 'Gotta Getaway', 'At The Edge' and the cover of the Specials' 'It Doesn't Make It Alright'. Love the state-of-the-art barcode album cover - from 1980, too. The dawn of the digital age we all now inhabit in 2024 !
Man, i just love Jake's singing. It really feels like it's coming from the heart. In my opinion one of the best (if not the best) frontman of punk ever.
Back in 1980 my mate said you've gotta hear this track.. Johnny Was on Hanx was THE first Fingers song I ever heard. I bought the LP and it's still one of my fav albums today. Seen them a few times over the years in Boro, Manchester, Leeds, London, and twice at the legendary St Patrick's Day @The Barras in Glasgow. Still touring and still a great band today
I first saw SLF in 1980 on a school trip to Poole Arts Centre, when school trips were school trips...it changed my life for sure... I just wish that I could sent my daughters on such an educational trip.
First SLF gig I was at was in 1980, seem them many times since and grew up with their songs. As as kid in a mining town that I wanted to escape with a passion this was the song of my childhood. Hanx guys, you made a dark time better.
Left N. Ireland in 1978 for Home Counties England as a 12 year old and discovered SLF as a teenager… a connection to my origins and the angst of a teenagers will always make this and inflammable material part of my history. Finally saw them in Stockholm and Edinburgh before COVID. Epic.
An Old an Wise Tradesman introduced me to this band so long ago while doing my apprenticeship, he was also a drummer, they did cover's in the smallest shittiest Country pubs of SLF, great memories, no one had heard of them in Australia :) Such a Unique Sound
Saw them twice in one year in the 2 hemispheres of the world in 2018. Brisbane Australia my home at the Triffid and Blackpool England at Rebellion. Soooo good.
That’s the way it is. I was always a punk even before punk came along, I think there were lots of us just waiting for something to happen and then 1976 came along.
My godmother is Jake's sister. I've only just started getting into their music but I love it and the family connection makes it even more special!!!! I've never met Jake but I saw my god mother last week at a wedding and told her to tell him he was a legend!!!! My mum was one of their groupies and said they all used to eat sandwiches together backstage! i LMAO at that!!!!
Saw them in brixtom academy,1990.brilliant.I was the skinhead in chino,s with tatts on neck as close to the stage as I could get,in amongst the troops, will never forget that night.thank you all. Tich from glenrotten, fide,Scotland.
What can I say? Most of the comments here pretty much sum it up so there is not that much point in me chiming in there because I can see we all love this and PUNKS NOT DEAD! All I will say is that you are a LEGEND for uploading this priceless page of the growing chronicle of punk rock, cemented in history. If our current generation had much more sense we would maybe see a new wave of punk, I guess that might be a possibility for the future. Who knows. Jim Reilly is an exceptional punk drummer. These lads are easily in Top 10 bands of the genre. Jake Burns voice was made for Punk.
The three greatest frontmen of all time are ,Paul Weller,Joe Strummer and Jake Burns. What a time to have been a teenager. We were so lucky.

"Gotta gotta gettaway, gotta gotta gettaway
You know there ain't no street like home
To make you feel so all alone
Plenty of folk to tell you what to do
But they don't speak the same language as you
They wanna have me here
Have me and hold me near
Hold me down fasten and tie
But the cars are all flashing me
Bright lights are passing me
I feel life passing me by
The fuss is buzzing in my head
My father argued and my mother begged
It's not their words ain't tugging at me
But gotta stretch them break them get myself free
They wanna have me here
Have me and hold me near
Hold me down fasten and tie
But the cars are all flashing me
Bright lights are passing me
