I read a story that Michael once talked shit to muggsy bogues. Bogues is the shortest player ever I'm pretty sure and once they were facing the bulls in the playoffs and he had the ball and jordan backed off and said "shoot it you fucking midget" and bogues airballed. Bogues later said that that play ruined his career and his shot never recovered.
Larry is my favorite trash talker. The stories are too good and on top of that, it's just hilarious to imagine all the black players reactions when they realized a white dude was talking noise and tuning them up lol

I find it ironic that the NBA posted this. I mean, aren't they doing everything in their power to regulate emotion OUT of the game? Don't they just want obidient robots who repeat pre-approved statements to the media? o.O
Yeah, I know this was 6 years ago but GP takes the cake. Yeah Bird and Jordan would probably play more of a mental battle but GP non-stop barking would test anyone and get a reaction to which he thrived off. Probably the most annoying (in the best way) at trash talking. You could really make an argument for any of them listed in the video.
I think Payton was the craziest, non-stop trash talker, but Larry Bird might have been the best. Bird was notorious for telling opposing defenders what he was going to do (on the upcoming offensive play), and most times the defender still couldn't stop him. That's both great AND ultimate confidence.
Mike S Michael Jordan did that all the time. He'd tell u how many points he was gonna score etc. Jordan trumps bird by quite a distant in the trash talking department. Just my opinion
Yup, Jordan had a number in his head for every player he faced. He saw them by how many points he averaged against them like "Doc Rivers= 40, Drexler= 35, John Starks= 30, Anthony Peeler= 50...."
Kerr is one of the greatest spot up shooters and stays humble...that sh** reflects on his coaching, that willingness to an unselfish team with a LOT of allstars and that extra pass that makes the Warriors a great team as a whole. I respect that guy a WHOLE lot. Mad respect Steve ✊
Kerr also holds the distinction of being the last player to pull off a QUAD-PEAT. 3 with Chicago, then one with the Spurs. Granted he was a good role-player with those teams....
I wish there were more segments like this, MJ counting back from 40 is priceless, wish I heard more stories and more of what players said I think its a fascinating insight into the game and the mentality of the players.

Ibz Montanna oh thank you for that correction. He can't guard me is in fact not the same is he can't hold me. they mean two different things. At second glance the ball didn't go in. you are right so actually I owe you an apology
I sort of think players don't talk trash anymore, simply because of the NBA's public image. It's a good one despite the Detroit fiasco, but it really intensifies the game. I miss the aggressive play of the NBA.
One of the BEST and most MAGICALLY things about sports are these moments....sitting around talking with old teammates and opponents about times that seemed more important than life itself then, and today are the silliest things you can remember. It's Amazing!! lol.
I hate the new NBA fans and NBA in general. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE the game but it's just so friendly and soft on the court. Fans will go out their way to create an image and call you all types of names and hate you just for some competitive trash talk... I miss the old days.
+Armani Smith there is always altercation and fights because someone chose to raise their fist on somebody and you got hot headed and tight in their chest with their words. You can still talk trash and do things in order to shut em up without laying a hand on them.
I love how humble Steve Kerr is. He can full on admit to himself and basically anyone who will listen that he was not a great player which is true. Good for sure but never great. The world could use a little more humbleness like that.
I wonder if they told these guys ahead of time they were going to talk on this subject. When it came time for Kerr, he could have just put his rings on and flashed them, and say next.
i faced many thrash talkers in a variety of sports I played, including basketball, but BBall is up close and personal. However, I never talked thrashed until after you talked enough to piss me off to school you, THEN, the thrashing talking started on my end. I wash not much of a thrash talker, but Trash talkers evaluated my game, EVERY TIME! Getting physical, even more!!!!!!!!! Loved it!
One of my favorite Shaq trash talk is we got traded to the heat and went to L.A. and was trash talking the crowd " your new center sucks" .....such a grudge holder and big kid at heart
My cousin played in the NBA for a number of years and he always said Michael Jordan and Gary Payton were the two worst trash talkers of all time. He said Michael was not always as "outward" as someone like Payton and most of his trash talk the fan never even noticed but he did it the entire time he was on the court lol.
I think the most boss thing ever was when jordan told the guy defending him a number like 55. When he hit another shot he said 53 and so on. He literally was counting down backwards all the points he was gonna score and did. Shows u how dominant Jordan was. That's pretty incredible to pick a high number and count backwards that you are going to score what u say.
Larry Bird is notorious for being extremely cocky and backing it up every single time. He would tell his defender what he was going to do and do it anyway.

Bird and Dominique.
"I like you rook, you got guts. But I'm still going for 40 on you".
Nique laughing "I won, he only got 39".
The Kevin Willis story is hilarious
0:27 I had no idea Reggie was on that kind of energy 😂😂😂😂
One of the BEST and most MAGICALLY things about sports are these moments....sitting around talking with old teammates and opponents about times that seemed more important than life itself then, and today are the silliest things you can remember. It's Amazing!! lol.
Love Gary Payton. Seattle had their best years with him.
Payton was who he was no sugarcoating which is why I liked him and his trash talking and when he trashed talked jordan and didn't back down
6:38 Reggie threw the paper to Chuck, I thought he was a good shooter
reggie interrupting smith at 4.30 is still one of those moments lol.
hahahaha
I remember when I stumbled upon this shot back in the days... this was the perfect cast
This is what makes basketball special. Great content!
Come on Steve you where clutch!
1997 NBA Finals ,Game 5 :)
I hate the new NBA fans and NBA in general. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE the game but it's just so friendly and soft on the court. Fans will go out their way to create an image and call you all types of names and hate you just for some competitive trash talk... I miss the old days.
Trash talking is for punks who are too scared to fight.
true it's nothing like the old school
+Armani Smith they trash talk to get into their head
Michael davtyan and that's why there always altercations and fights.
+Armani Smith there is always altercation and fights because someone chose to raise their fist on somebody and you got hot headed and tight in their chest with their words. You can still talk trash and do things in order to shut em up without laying a hand on them.
The one with micheal counting backwards! hahha
Something about Shaq imitating GP had me rollin 😂😂
I love how humble Steve Kerr is. He can full on admit to himself and basically anyone who will listen that he was not a great player which is true. Good for sure but never great. The world could use a little more humbleness like that.
4:30 his face. I can't breathe 😭😭😭😭
Why the hell don't they do more of this? I think I watched all of the Open Courts episodes.
4:28 bahahaha Steve Smith is like, "....uhhh......I was talking bro."
Chris was Mark crazy
I think the most boss thing ever was when jordan told the guy defending him a number like 55. When he hit another shot he said 53 and so on. He literally was counting down backwards all the points he was gonna score and did. Shows u how dominant Jordan was. That's pretty incredible to pick a high number and count backwards that you are going to score what u say.
LMAO the paper Reggie crumpled and threw landed on Chuck and he just kept it.
4:30 face is priceless when Reggie Miller just interrupts and talks over him.
Seriously, nothing about Dennis Rodman?
Rodman didn't really talk much. He mind-fucked players with body language, hard play and extremely annoying tactics. But never really talked much.
When Hakeem was crushing his squad he didn't even want to be on the court. He was a baiting troll...not a talker.
He didnt talk, just hak
Would love to go back in time for a day just to see them play again! Awesome individuals!
chris webber looks younger now than when he was still playing
This is my favourite open court segment ever
I love hearing them discuss different aspects of basketball.
Steve Kerr is such a humble gentleman, when he said TT is for great players so he will just listen. Kenny Smith should learn something from him.
