The dial on my Rex is also out. But I enjoy shaving with it. It takes a little getting used to and will cause a few issues if your technique is a little ‘off’. It’s not a razor to be taken lightly, but boy does it give a great shave. I’m only starting to really enjoy mine now after more than six months. Apart from the dial, the build quality is terrific. I love the heft of it. Built like a tank.
SOTD... Rockwell 6c gunmetal with a third use KCG blade... Yaqi timber Wolf synthetic brush and mitchells woolfat soap on my first ever use of it. I am from Bradford where it is made and I went to the offices where you can buy products (it's not really a shop). The staff are lovely and friendly. Any lathering issues with this soap, according to the staff is due to the hardness of the water but as I live where its made, it went off like a pan of boiling milk... Really impressed. Simple toner and L'Oreal birch sap for post shave. Chicken Fajitas for dinner.

after the first pass I thought this was going to be your shortest video ever, nothing left after two passes... :) A lot of people find this razor very aggressive, but since you are used to using aggressive razors, you make it look like it's a very easy shaver.
Hi Paul! Thanks for the video, enjoined it as usual. SOTD: my old trusty DE89, Proraso Menthol shaving cream, Proraso boar brush and Clubman Brandy Spice AS to top it all off. And there's some new stuff on its way which I'm pretty excited to get my hands on: PAA Pineapple Bay Rum aftershave and Fenomeno Russian Roulette soap.
Happy Sunday Paul! I love the white roses; many thanks Mrs. H!! The Rex Ambassador is a very good razor in my opinion, I do hope you enjoy it. Doesn't take much of an imagination to see why the Royal Mail (or any postal service) during Covid restrictions...it is the only way to give people a gift or package. Yeah, that Rex is a well constructed and hefty razor...shaves like a dream. I prefer settings lower than 3.5, even setting 1 is efficient. The Rex Envoy is nice too. SOTD: Not sure what it will be, except I have a sample of Cella shaving soap from the kilo brick (NOT the tub). It sure smells nice. I have a worry due to the almond...some of those irritate my skin. I have the Rex Envoy, which is equivalent to the Ambassador set on 3. I love it! Just a solid, well-built razor. The knurling on the handle is the best I've seen. Great shave Paul! Today, we're having vegetable beef stew.

Amazing shave Paul💈💈 I've had the REX Ambassador since early 2018, a marvelous razor. I can't use on settings above #4 comfortably, my skin can't handle the aggression. Blade choice is paramount of course, YMMV. TOBS in any variety is a sure bet, Jermyn St. is no different. Mrs H never ceases to amaze in her ability to bring forth beautiful flower arrangements, thanks. SOTD: PAA Cube, TOBS Luxury Shave Cream, Thayter "Beehive" badger brush, ATT R1 razor w/Personna Red blade, alum, Thayers witch hazel, Myrsol Formula C splash and Myrsol Emulsion to finish...Fantastic👍 The REX would make a great Christmas gift 😉 Dinner sounds delish. I'm glad Alys has a companion now. Enjoy!

Fantastic shave Paul!!! My SOTD is going to be my Rex Ambassador with a Personna Red blade, Noble Otter Synthetic Brush, Noble Otter Firefighter Soap and Aftershave, with some L'oreal Men Expert Birch Sap Balm to seal the deal. Meal of the day is some Lamb Shanks, Curried Lentils, and Jasmine Rice with Pearl onions and Port Wine Demiglaze. Have a great day and stay safe!!!
You'll never get a loosing shave with good old Winner blades! Their slogan is "Special Shave!"
Can always expect a good shave when the Ambassador is called upon. Only thing I dislike about my Rex razors are the lack of blade overhang, which helps me handle the blade more safely during installation and removal. MOTD - smoked pork chops basted in a homemade whiskey/pepper sauce and double dipped onion rings. SOTD - 1964 Slim, Astra Green blade, vintage Gillette shave cream, Proraso AS, Loreal Men's balm.

I have the envoy and struggle with it to be honest. Its just too aggressive for me and I've tried various blades and soaps. It shaves my face well but my neck is always sore and poorly shaved. I have a brass Karve on a b plate which is perfect for me. I think I may need to sell this and perhaps buy a stainless steel Karve.

Very nice shave. I was surprised that you had not reviewed the Rex Ambassador until now. Watching you shave on setting 6 made me cringe a little. I like mild razors and find my Rex to be the most aggressive razor I have...even on setting 1. It is a handsome and quality made razor. Now you need to review the Henson razor. That's the mildest razor I've used.
Hi Paul, i’ve been looking forward to your testing of the Rex for a long time. Got mine 6 months ago and it provides fantastic shaves ! My SOTD : Rex Ambassador (setting 3,5 to begin with), Plisson Silvertip brush, Abbate y la Mantia KROKOS shaving soap, Alum block (always use one even without cuts), Fine Platinum splash, Nivea balm (classic). Nice shave today Paul! I'm seeing the Ambassador on quite a few channels. Looks like a very nice razor. Love the Jermyn St. scent. I have a years old tub as well but mine is still a cream. Had a homemade chili for my MOTD. SOTD will be Merkur 34c Treet Platinum blade Trumpers Limes cream that’s turned to a hard soap as well😃 and Crabtree and Evelyn Limes aftershave. Beautiful razor! I haven’t decided on a SOTD yet. I purchased all of this year’s Black Friday soap and a/s scents from Stirling...except for ‘Green’ (already have that one). I’m leaning towards using the ‘Iced Coffee’ scent today. I’ve never had any coffee scented products before, and this one is mentholated. Sounded interesting to me.

Great shave Paul, I purchased the Ambassador shortly after they came out and I agree with everything you said in your excellent review! I often wonder why I don’t use it every day because it is the one modern razor that could be the only razor you would ever need! It will probably last generations. But sadly, I have RAD and keep using all types of modern and vintage razors.Stay safe in your work travels.

I find the adjustables good for turning down to go over moles or pimples, i have the futur and progress which i think are amazing for the money, i really like the look of the rex, might have to save the pennies a bit though. I am having the chrome parker razor stand from santa and the rex would look the part in it with my other two. Great video, cheers.
Excellent shave, on a side note Waitrose are selling Trufitt & Hill Authentic No 10 range 30% off! Used it last night for my SOTN, it lathers so quick and thick like soft whipped marshmallow, with great slickness too. Grab a bargain.
I can't remember, but I'm surprised you haven't tried a Rex razor yet. I can tell how anamored you were with that razor because you had a lot of non-talkin "in the moment" moments. It's certainly one of a kind! Hope Santa puts one under your tree. 😊

Mr. Paul, have you tried the Rex Konsul???? It’s my favorite next to the Ambassador-I have both fortunately. They are both lots of fun to shave with. If you have not, you should consider.

FWIW, I tried some Winner blades a few months back. The seemed to perform very well, and lasted unusually long.
SotD: I'd rather mention Monday's, the the anniversary of the Pearl Harbor attack. I've got a Ranger Tech, which Gillette first brought out for the 1941 Christmas season, but entry into the war quickly shut down Gillette production of any razor other than Techs made out of Bakelite, Zamak, Anodized Aluminum, & who knows what. So in a sense the Ranger Tech became a collateral casualty of Pearl Harbor. (FWIW, I have one of the WW2 Techs. It looks like toxic waste from a nuclear reactor, but it really performs outstandingly. Go figure.) I have some old Thin blades, date codes 1945, that I haven't mustered the courage to try, but I think I'll give it a go Monday just to maintain the theme, along with some vintage mid-1950s Williams cream, which is probably similar to WW2 Williams. And, of course, Aqua Velva after shave, which I understand was provided under government contract to WW2 U.S. military post exchanges.
MotD? I've got some chicken marinating in Teriyaki, but it probably needs a little more time, so I'll try to rustle up some quick chili. Wish me luck.

Hi Paul always fancied the Ambassador but £250 made me hesitate so I bought the Outlaw instead, If I was young and going to get a lifetime out of it I wouldn't hesitate.
I would be interested to get your thoughts on the Outlaw maybe ina future video.

Would always put that spray on last. Wonderful scent but I think that it has a sticky feel to it and if you touch it, it's like wiping it off.

Hey, I think your doing it backwards, you should start on the lowest setting and take off 90% of the growth, then open it up to a higher setting, that way you dont scrape off so much skin because there is much less growth to contend with and you can take it easier with lighter strokes, if i did it your way, when i put on my aftershave, my face would feel like it was on fire, due to all the skin ive scraped off. I use the Merkur adjustable with Gillette Platinum blades.

Can you try going in reverse with the aggressiveness ( starting with a less aggressive setting and finishing the shave with a more aggressive setting)? I seen other people do it so I tried it out for myself and have to say I feel like its a better way. I’m curious as to what you think

This razor gave me an ingrown hair on my neck that somehow became a slightly deeper dermal cyst that I now can't get rid of without medical attention and my doctor told me it's too small and minor to really do anything about. So now I have an annoying tiny bump on my neck just below my jaw and idk if it will go away on its own, because I've tried heat, antibiotics, everything. NEVER had this happen with any razor before!🤬🤬🤬

@@petrub27 I can't even see a dermatologist without a referral and my primary says, "well it's not red or causing you discomfort and it's really tiny so can't do much about it beyond antibiotics and time to make it go away".

Ambassador is priced way too high. Markups way above 100.beutiful razor though. I can't wait till you review the Pearl Flexi. Pretty much the same razor at 1/4 the cost. And it's cnd'd out of solid brass. And don't let Matt tell you his razor us superior. He's been telling everyone that brass is the best for longevity. "just look at the Gillettes" lol. If I had a dollar for everytime he's said that!.......
@@N0ggie the ambassador had issues too on their first run. I've been speaking to Pearl and they claim the that all the issues have been worked out. They told me if I had alignment issues they'd refund my money and I could keep the razor. The only issue I might have it weighs 120g. My sweet spot is 70 to 100g. Well see. I can't see myself paying even for the Enjoy which I don't think will shave any better than my GC. 84p SB. Love this hobby but just have better uses for my money. But to each their own, I understand.
