- Back in 2021 Matt from Razor Emporium was kind enough to send me a Rex Ambassador, to try out in a shaving video and then make it part of a subscriber giveaway. The razor was perfect. Ever since then I’ve wanted to buy another for inclusion into the shave den. I bought one this week and am jazzed to be using it in todays shave. Also from PAA, I’ll be using their newest soap and aftershave- Casi Perfecto. This is an homage to the 1990’s Curve aftershave for men from Liz Claiborne.

I’ve had the Ambassador in my den since 2020, and it’s the one I reach for most often. I always pair it with a Nacet, and that combination goes through a week’s worth of growth like a hot knife through butter.

Congratulations on owing an ambassador. I own 2 Rex ambassadors and 1 Konsul. Those are my daily razors and I wouldn’t trade them for anything else out there. The built quality of those razors is superb! Mat has done an amazing job! I’ve heard there is a Rex adjustable butterfly coming up (fat boy style)

Hi Ken! I have a short handle gold plated Ambassador. I picked the gold plated thinking it will going to be a luxury razor, i was used to my Aristocrat slim adj a Cadillac, but it wasn't. The Ambassador is wild,like a Ford Mustang 😂, and the plane SS fits it better. In the end it is a masterpiece.

Great shave Ken. Jealous of the lovely weather you are having over there. Currently it's 7C here in the UK in Cumbria. Love the Ambassador, I got mine back in summer 2019 and it still impresses me now. Fantastic quality, and the knurling is the best I've experienced on any razor. I only wish the Konsul had used the same knurling on it, rather than the one Matt chose for it.
I got the standard version as the place I purchased from in the UK only stocked that model. I'm not sure if the additional finishes etc are only available direct from Razor Emporium. With import duties/tax from US parcels to the UK, it makes a lot of the great retailers you have in the US too expensive and I only purchase direct from the US when I have no other option in the UK to purchase from, which is a shame.
I find the Ambassador is certainly a very blade forward/a razor you get a lot of blade feel, but I absolutely love this.

REX Supply razors are first class all the way, have all of them but the Konsul is the standout of all for me. I got the Ambassador when first released, stellar craftsmanship and shaves like a dream as long as I don't go above 3.5😉 Great shave Ken💈💈 Soap/splash look good too, CK6 can't beat it. Great video. I have both the Ambassador and Konsul in gold. I lean towards the ambassador over the Konsul. I know the price is hefty, but I always tell people to watch for Matt’s scratch and dent sale. I got both of them through that and paid a fraction of the price. They’re both fully functional and the cosmetic imperfections are borderline non existent.
And honestly, I’d still take my ‘48 Aristocrat over both.

PAA soaps are now one of my favorites but the aftershave splash is sometimes too intense for me. I once had the Rex Ambassador as a test. Really very good device. Nice shave! Best regards from Bavaria

I have both the Ambassador and the Konsul. Love the Ambassador but the Konsul is my go-to razor now. To me, the Konsul actually has a little less blade feel despite being a slant head. Hope you’re able to try it out sometime, Ken!

I had both. Kept Konsul. You will prob like the Konsul better. Nothing like ambassador as far as shave feel. Way smoother way less blade feel. Only cons - The head feels a bit heavier and knurling not as good as ambassador.

Great shave. I have tried both the Med Preps and Lab Blues before. Both are great for me, but the Lab Blue is what I like overall. Speaking of blades, I got new stuff coming that includes the Fatip Piccolo razor I’ve always wanted and a round of blades to try out. I can’t wait to give them all a whirl when they arrive at my house. Have a good one!

Ken you should pair the Rex Ambassador with one of their soaps and aftershaves, also the pre shave soap. The 1955, 1966, 1977 products are really great!

Nice shave Ken. I had the Ambassador but returned it as it had too much blade feel for me. Even at the lowest setting. I will be ordering a sample of Casi Perfecto on my next PAA order. Have a good time tonight and a great rest of the weekend. 👍

Nice Eagle. I have the slant adjustable Rex..... placing a blade in is DIFFICULT...... after the shave I cleaned it under running water and used my finger to run ....and it cut my finger *no blade*... . Shave was OK....but nothing to write home about it..... RazoRock Wunderbar.....I bought it a month ago.....this is the BEST....

Heya Ken, Thanx for another great shave video with a top of the range razor. The agressivnes of a razor is determined by the space between the blade and the base piece. When it comes to it - shaving is engineering science. Engineers have disigned the razors we see on your great and practical videos. please bring some explainatory engineering to the videos - it will be cool. Best regards form the land of danish design. The Ambassador is a wonderful razor but it was too blade forward for me. I bought the Konsul, and can tell you that they are nothing alike as to feel. The Konsul is smooth and no blade feel. But both give a fantastic shave. As for the blade, try the Accutec Accuforge which is the rebranded Lab Blue. Razor Emporium sells them

Rex Ambassador has always given me skin burns. Even at setting 2 it has irritated my skin. I still love the design and craftsmanship. That is why I have bought 2 of them.

Id take a vintage gillete any of them b4 any razor.i was buying all kinds looking for that perfect shave, then i just bit the bullet and bought one off ebay, now id sell every new style razor cause i dont use them, henson, rockwell, merkur, all going ummv

Nice shave, Ken. You've inspired me to pull out my Rex Ambassador and give it a go. Maybe you could also get a pack of Personna Comfort Coated blades (aka Lab Blues) to compare with the Med Preps. I can't tell any difference and the Lab Blues are almost one-fourth the price.

I read they are the same blade except except that the med preps have an extra cleaning step of some kind.
@@jefife750 I've heard that too. The entire story of Personna blades is so convoluted that I'm not sure Personna can explain which is which regarding their blades. All I know is that when I shave with what I think is a Med Prep and then shave with what I think is a Lab Blue, I can't tell any difference. I also know I won't buy any blades from the "new" manufacturer because their "new" price is a ripoff.
Great video! I've been on the fence about buying an Ambassador as I already own the Envoy as well. Would using the Ambassador on setting 3 be too similar to the Envoy or do you find yourself using the lower and higher settings more?

That’s a superb looking razor! We drove past the wetlands on our trip to Newport last year, obviously we should have stopped for a closer look. Ken may I ask if you have a favourite butterfly razor, I’d like one but have no experience

The Rex Konsul is the number one razor in the den, followed closely by the Hanson Ti22 mild. The Konsul feels smoother than the Ambassador, in my opinion.

That's such a great razor. It feels like a tank. I was lucky enough to get one in immaculate shape on eBay for $118, complete with the box.
I recently switched to Bic blades. They're made in Greece, and don't have any other facilities in other countries to switch to. It just seems like a more stable political situation, and the blades feel fantastic in every razor, especially the Ambassador.
Have you tried the Gillette Winner blades? They're very similar to their Wilkinson Swords. They have an Indian cricket player on the wrapper, so I can't see them moving production out of India for blades intended for the Indian market.

Hey I really enjoy your videos I have learned a lot from you I’m still a newbie. So I’ve been using the leaf twig and leaf thorn for a little while now and I love them but I’m thinking about getting a Henson in the medium option do you think that’s a good idea or should I just stick with the leafs for a while? Also I’ve been watching your videos for a little while now but I just went ahead and subscribed.

If setting 3 is great, then what's the point of having the Ambassador, why not just use the Envoy. Supposedly around setting 3/4.

A thin lather can still work extremely well; especially a very wet and thin lather - just as long as it can hold enough water on the face with it. This is, best if not more than about two days of beard growth.
