I keep telling myself that someday I will make an enchanter! It feels like the spookiest class to learn with all the mechanics and things to juggle, with death around the corner.
I wasn't too far off! I would agree Shaman is S tier once they get torpor, but between needing to be max level and have 50k plat for Torpor and needing their epic to go from decent at soloing in their 50's to pretty good is why I ranked them in A tier. I agree with Bard being A tier. Never played one, but I can see how upper 50's swarm kiting would fall off a bit. Also agree moving up Monk and Shadowknight up a tier from my initial ranking due to feign death alone. I also agree with your int caster rankings... Got a little excited about early level mage power and wizard swarm-kiting. I enjoyed the video man. Cheers!
Best classes are : Shaman : able to kill the bigest target of any soloer with slow, dots and torpor. Necro : easiest class, powerful and faster than shaman but get no slow for non undead targets. Enchanter : can manage to kill a very bug target like the shaman but it is more risky and you can not farm as fast as necro, shm and mage. Druid : safer than ench, easy like necro, but you will wait for mana between fights like for mage and even more. Mage : easy to play but your character is fragile, you dont have any defensive skill (like life tap, runspeed, feign death, evac ...) only your pet and you have to manage your agro wisely. Best class to farm low and mid targets. Not powerful soloing on one big mob.
Would love that duo list! Would also love a strategy-type video on Enchanter strategies. Coming back after 20+ years and playing an Enchanter because I never did way back when.
When I was a noob in 2000 and knew nothing about the game I chose Dwarf Rogue as my main and stuck with it. I spent sooooooo long LFG it was insane. Made 60 and epics after years. If I had chosen an easier primary, would I still love this game so much?
its funny because Rogue is the most sought after group class on p99. As long as a group has a healer and some sort of tank they are generally happy to fill every remaining slot with rogues because they stack so well and kill mobs so fast. The best era was when Hole ZEM was buffed and everyone did 55-60 there. constant LFMs at the infinite camps in the game.
I was a dwarf Rogue on Tarew Marr back in the day. Also struggled to make level 60 and get epics. I found that the thing I did wrong back in the day was I played the game like a single player game, I didn't make friends, I didn't get into a guild that was active. The best way to do any game like EQ1 is to find people and make friends. Friend/guildy groups with the most nonsense class makeups were common for exp groups. camping groups etc. There are things that matter more than efficiency
@@civrev Melee in Velious era with top gear are better than Wizards, and any melee class with Feign Death/Root are better than Mages for some content, since they can move through areas and break camps that Mages can't.
Nicely done, agree with nearly everything. One thing you left out about rangers is that they can fear kite animals. I would also argue Paladin probably deserves to be the lowest in B tier or the highest in C tier. Their damage with a 2 hander is not that bad, they still get double attack,. Lull and root are also very useful spells for soloing. Stuns make casters easier to deal with. Some paladin only weapons have some really nice procs as well.
Re: Paladin: They can root + Deepwater Helm to heal up if a fight is going sideways, which gives them great, if slow, control in dungeon crawls. B tier IMO. Everything else I think was spot on!
I have eight 60’s on p1999 and I think Paladin is kindof tough to classify. I think my 60 Paladins ability to solo tough mobs is much higher than some of my other 60’s that you ranked a bit higher. Especially compared with say a Ranger or Mage, definitely more than Wizard, Monk as well unless super well geared. But of course they are like watching paint dry when soloing for exp. I’d say their ability to grind as well as farm plat is pretty on par with SK. SK can fear kite, but in tight dungeon spaces it’s probably worse in most cases unless again, gear makes up for it
Necromancer is the king of soloing. Not many can compare. They are fine vs summoning mobs, you just have to be smart about it and keep the mob snared, Dot the crap outta the mob then run away and lifetap in between summons. And they are even better than an enchanter when dealing with undead. They have a mez, they can charm and even heal their pet. They can heal THEMSELVES with lifetap(something an enchanter cannot). They can also Feign Death for safety or splitting. They also can out DPS an entire group of melee in a race.
They lack the 70% slow so unfearable mobs are an issue. Can only deal as well as an Enchanter with undead. Enchanter can mem wipe mobs too as a form of FD. And while Necros have lifetaps, Enchanters have runes and Bedlam, which against a slowed mob is a non-issue. Add to that, super fast cast PBAE stuns.
But Necro DPS is much higher than even a charmed pet. ESP after the charm nerf after PoP. Necros after luclin dominated DPS for a long time. Aggro kiting in areas that normally require a group. Fear kiting went away for the most part after Kunark. No control over where the mob runs can create massive problems.@@janus3555
in original EQ necro was king at soloing and still are quite good especially against undead. I can't count how many times fear kite and dot stacking got nerfed over the years
I guess it depends on gear for a Pally, durning live on my server my Pally was in the top 4 on the server, even during the Luclin expansion, as a Human Pal at lvl 60 max, I had no real issues soloing content like Crypt in Seb, Howling Stones etc. I remember once I pafcied my group across the Deep, from one end to the other across the invs bridge with full spawn up all the mobs 55 lvl with no aggro, when lvl 60 was max level. Later on with Planes of Power and AA, I used to solo in Crypt of Decay, getting 7k to 10k slay undead crits on the mobs there. Pallys solo a bit slower, are very gear dependent, but if you kill undead mobs, it`s not that bad. I used to run mana pool 30% to 40% of whatever my max hp were, like in Planes of power I had 9k hp, and mana was at 4k , with Flowing though 15 or something .
Bard. Back in the early days of Blue server Kunark was the most bonkers solo game. We were able to pull an entire zone like the Overthere, Firiona Vie, Burning Woods, Dreadlands, etc. I maxed out at about 120-150 mobs before the server started to push back with lag spikes causing problems. High risk/reward and very nerve racking, but lots of fun. You can start as early as level 4 i think with your first aoe song on Kobolds in Steamfont.
@@miclam00 Nah, it becomes pretty weak at higher levels. Your best damage spell is 725 max and you're trying to fight things with many thousands of HP, while lacking mana regen. The exception is if you have a manastone in old world, but I consider that outside the scope of this list. Cleric can't farm anything truly valuable anyway in Velious era if they are just trying to fight undead in old world zones.
Wiz must have been hard to classify. Wiz with average gear and no access to mana regen and doesn't play the tics might be C tier, But if you have the gear and access to PotG or a friendly enchanter in the area and a great understanding of game mechanics can do some Amaizing things. 🙂
Bards are by far the fastest leveling Class in game - even after 50. You can pull up to 50 Mobs 3 times in an hour in the City of Mist. You can do that easily with vendored intruments for 3pp. NOTHING (or only another bard) comes even close to my levelspeed to 60.
Agreed, i believe Bard is the top of the pile. One caveat though, playing a bard requires more skill than most, a good bard is impossible to beat but a poorly played bard is useless.
nothing touches the necro when solo. bard is decent outside, but inside they fall short, also on summoning mobs, they just die. When it comes to all different kinds of mobs, and in all places. Necro is king esp once mobs start summoning.
Bard is an S tier soloer / money maker for their ability to power level. They can make insane amounts of money / DKP power leveling characters to 60 for guilt bots, skipping the grind, etc. DN spiders are their bread and butter at 60
I play a main as a Magician so I know all the tricks, the one thing I’ll say other than you being correct they aren’t elite 50-60 compared to shamans and enchanters, we did manage to solo big mobs such as phinny with 2 of us (2 50+ magicians) using chain casting of the earth pet. So if you are a magician and wondering what your best tricks are it’s CoH pulling and chain casting. With that you can duo some of the bigger mobs. Still not on the level of a shaman / monk duo or an enchanter / cleric duo those are king duo in p99.
Pally, a lot of people dont know that blind is a huge aggro tool and very easy on mana. So Pally Sham can be a really smooth duo that people are not talking about. The CC a pally and sham can work out is awesome. Pally lull, root, slow, stun, tankability, heals, combined buffs... SK FD and snare are handy yes. Yet! Pally will be more stable to keep alive AND you wont feel as overwelmed as you may with the SK trying to work out debuffing and dot strats for new camps. Something to be said for having less to do on one toon multiboxing. Bard for example doesnt offer haste high enough in a duo pr trio to justify not having a monk, the bard however is less work than a monk.. so the speed and regen.. just excuses when should be using a monk as a third account.
Shaman was my first 60 character and once they get torpor shamans are unstoppable. Also paladin should be higher imo, root+archery isn’t a horrible solo method
The Evil race cleric can solo pretty good once you get the quest necklace ( name evades me) that is Cleric and shaman only I think that allows you to cast darkness. You can get it at really low levels and once I got it I was able to solo so much easier. However soloing a cleric is kind of not really the point of it. I always enjoyed grouping with clerics. With the 2hs from Tunare, paladins (sk can also use) DPS really goes up along with a 3 min root proc. I think you owe monks more credit. Many uber geared iksar monks can easily solo good cash camps.
