MAN! They both sound amazing! If I were getting one, I think I'd go with the FX-30. Love the weather sealing, 2 card slots, fan, better LCD, and BUTTONS & DIALS!! But the lowlight capabilities of the ZV-E1 are very attractive as well.
I shoot stage rally in the USA, the ZV-E1 has never overheated while shooting 4k60 4:2:2 XAVC-S 200mbps while on stage, sometimes filming 70+ cars passing by with 1 minute gaps between them. 4k120 4:2:2 XAVC-S 280mbps however, will overheat it depending on the temperature and how much concurrent filming I do, for instance Drift Indy overheated it quite quickly on an 80+ degree high humidity day. I've since purchased the smallrig TEC cooler attachment, and I can now shoot 4k120 continuously with the cooler on max speed
*I just got the FX30 today and I bought it because it was an entry level Cinema Camera that focused on video only. That was something that I wanted as the FX3 was HILARIOUSLY expensive. I've already got the ZV-1 which to me the ZV-E1 is just another line-up but FF, but too each their own*
I have both the A7SIII and the FX30. Besides the low Light Performance the FX 30 is great. A new Sensor in a great body. The Image is the same as in my A7SIII. The ZV E1 seams to me like they put the old Sensor of the A7SIII in a cheap body. And to an higher price. So i would recommend the FX30 for filmmakers and also for vlogging. And you can Save money. Thanks to Apple for making this comment looking funny. Greetings from Germany. Dirk
Hi Dirk, which of these 2 cameras would you recommend for a controlled studio setting for UA-cam talking head videos? If I go with the FX30, I would use the Sigma 30mm 1.4. Wouldn't I get about the same look as full frame? My main concern with the ZVE1 is overheating as I record multiple videos up to 1+ hours and do livestreams at 4K 24p, Slog3 with autofocus. Thanks for your thoughts!
@@HopeProphecy I would highly recommend the FX30. Because of the 6k to 4k downsampled footage, it looks like Fullframe. I often use the A7SIII on a tripod and the FX30 handheld for B Roll shots. It looks identical. I have both set to S Cinetone. I wouldn‘t buy a Camera with features you will get in the Future such as 4K 120fps. The problem with overheating seams to be really hard. This features were never even planed to put them in a cheap plastic Body. Unfortunatly most UA-cam Channels now support the new ZV E 1, for what reason ever. Look at the Video from Athur R. One of the first really critical and objective reviews. Dirk
Great video as always! My next upgrade from the zv-e10 is definitely gonna be the FX30. Really need longer record times without overheating and dont need the ai features / stabilization the zv-e1 offers. I'm always out recording hour long clips in the 90 degree summer heat and editing at night at home so don't need the low light large sensor.
I'm debating between these two cameras myself. Do you think that fx30 would give similar image quality as this ZvVE1 full frame in a controlled studio setting? If I go with the FX30, I would use the sigma 30mm 1.4. Thanks!
It will probably depend on what you want to do, the lower megapixel count on the zv-e1 is designed to be better in low light situations where the fx30 will have higher detail in good lighting conditions, and the built in fan will prevent over heating on longer shoots. Great comparison video
A few days ago, I purchased the ZV-E10 after watching your videos. However, when I heard about Sony releasing the ZV-E1, I almost had a mini heart attack, thinking if it was an upgraded version of the ZV-E10, and if I had just bought an older version😅. However, I am hopeful that the ZV-E10 is still a great camera. I wanted to thank you for recommending the ZV-E10. It's my first camera, and thank you for your guidance. Keep up the great work on the channel! Sending love from India ❤️.
@Valibhav same here, grabbed the Sony ZV-E10 a few weeks ago then found out about the ZV-E10 and had the same cardiac issues haha. Then went to to should I sell and get the ZV-E1. This is my first Sony camera and vlogging came also. I know we can fix the rolling camera shutter in post. The nice thing about the EZ-E1 is it has shutter stabilizion , AI chip for auto focusing with two people yet down side is that the EZ-E1 will have over heating problems even in 73 degrees. I think I will probably just stick with EZ-E10 then beach out to an FX3 for the good goods as it is Netflix Certified and has an internal fan for longer shoots and is not proned to over heating problems.
Not a professional shooter, but I'm leaning towards the ZV-E1 for the new features and full frame sensor. Upgrading from the ZV-E10 as I want better image stabilization and rolling shutter.
Thanks, Mark! It feels like they charge more for making your life easier with software (ZV-E1), but you do get better "hardware" with the FX-30, which requires you to think a little harder to use the camera. I'll personally stick to my a6600 for another couple years to gain more experience and justify getting a new camera. Cheers!
FX30 is an actual reliable camera, you should never bring a camera that could overheat to a paid job. If it’s for vlogging and your own content creation probably the EV-1
I’ll have fun with my overheating camera that produces great image quality. I’ll bring it to the next few shoots I have as well😬 I’ll let you know how it goes (I live in the desert so you best believe it’ll be hot).
Thanks, Mark! You know the advantage to be “insane” like you is to be able to create such a comprehensive video! You have cleared most of my questions about these two boys, and I am now more than delighted to wait patiently for my EV-Z1 :) Thx a lot
The Fx30 is a great entry level camera for filmmakers and videographers. The ZV-E1 is a great high level camera for vloggers. I would not recommend the ZV-E1 for filmmakers and videographers, no matter how good the auto focus is.
NYC energy is unreal! Love visiting the city. We lived in Charlotte, NC before kids and now live in Raleigh, but if we didn’t have kids, we’d 100% consider moving to the city - especially since the tech company I work for has an office in the FIDI. Love this video bro! Keep ‘em coming.
The camera is overhyped. Very expensive only 12mpx no CineEi overheats no double slots for sdcards and no cfxpress plus the new Apsc sensor is amazing. Everyone is talking about the low light performance of the FX30 but I find it amazing if you know what you're doing. I prefer the cinema camera for shooting movies. Full frame I prefer only for portrait photography. Anyways RED just announced a non FF camera the V Raptor super 35 8K. Look at Blackmagic too non FF either. Anyways great video.
Nightclubs and bar interior shots (both photo and video) which is better? Does it have a lot of effect if it is full frame? The FX30 seems better, but low light shooting is important to me.
Since it's really hard to find camera comparisons in my nieche, i'll just drop the question here. I'm into aviation and am looking into changing my camera setup, since i''m currently dragging 2 camera's with me when I go out and about. I don't have any influence in my surroundings (i.e. scene lighting) and I capture fast moving objects, clips between 30-60 seconds long. I currently have: - Sony RX10 mk IV for livestreaming, but the HDMI port is failing on me, so it's unreliable. - Nikon Z8 for 4K compilation videos, but camera isn't that suitable for streaming. I've been testing the ZV-E1 for a day and was pretty impressed, but somehow the APS-C sensor size attracts to me quite a lot, due to the sharper image due to the downsampled 6K and faster sensor readout speed due to it being 33% smaller than a FF camera. The nightshots in those uncontrolled settings don't automatically look THAT much better on the ZV-E1 than on my Nikon Z8 (second base ISO at 4000). The real question is: Is there anyone here in the comment section that has used the FX30 for fast moving subjects and if so, how does the rolling shutter look like, as well as the AF when the fast moving subject passes by?
I did a 2.5 hour livestream (1080p) with the ZV-E1 with no overheating issues. Just make sure you get a USB-C SS 3.1 cable- Sony gave an onscreen warning that my cheap USB-C cable would mean only 720p.
Zv-1 seems like a great travel/content creator cam but fx30 is for more professional use and also great for vlog with more options at great lens optimized for spec or put a FF lens on it … I think ima buy a used Siii to add to my fx30 and A7iv for weddings etc .. great video mark!!
Great review. Thank u. I gotta say though (as an FX3 owner), the high resolution LCD screen on the FX30 (2,360,000 Dot resolution) is awesome. I’m continuously squinting to ensure focus on my FX3, specifically in daylight scenarios (as it’s 1,440,000 Dot resolution ). I really wish Sony would have incorporated an EVF on the FX3 (or designed an attachment), and at the very least given us the FX30 higher resolution LCD, as they ‘clearly’ (no pun intended) had the technology to do so. - I’ll just chalk it up to companies like Sony and Canon continuously crippling their offerings for sales.
I would get the ZV-E1 because the videos from it look amazeballs. It's also much lighter than any other camera in its range and most of its competitors are not full frame. I have a micro4loserTM camera the GH6 and it's way heavier. Wish it weren't. I've used APSC lenses on the Sony A7C and the video looked great, e.g. the Sigma art 50mm. It was oozing with bokeh
The ZVE1 is like a Tesla and the FX30 is like a Ford F150. You get a smooth ride with all the futuristic AI features with the Tesla...but when its time to work, move stuff around, ride off-road, carry some heavy load, and hold up against scratches and bumps...you take the Ford.
Another nice one Mark. I'm walking over to Vistek to pick-up my FX30 later today. It freaked me out a little when you touched that light. It looks like it's a mile behind you.
This is what your cameras brain is doing with the sensor image when using Clear Image Zoom and outputting 4K video ZVE1 = 12MP 4K Video = 8MP (about) The 12MP sensor is already DOWN sampling That allows you 0.5x clear image zoom and you are still inside of 8MP (4K video) as you zoom, the camera effectively shifts the pixels while keeping you inside of 4k :) love your videos
Which camera would be better if i would “downgrade” the ZV-E10 to second cam/ b roll and replace it with either Fx30 or Zv-e10. Which camera’s would pair up nicely?
If you already have APS-C lenses, then the FX30 makes more sense, and will grow with you better over time. The FX-30 also has 240fps for slo-mo that's...slower...mo? Also 2 SD slots on the FX-30 kindof makes it the only option for any professional work. If you're shooting with no redundancy, that's a huge risk to take. The ZV-E1 isn't a bad camera but I would go with the FX-30 in your situation.
Deciding between those , I looked for such a Video Thank you!! Leaning towards FX30 For price and lenses choice and feature set as a video rig . The ZV-1 for teh full frame look ,and the more advance AF but it's overheating so not sure it's right , not sure how long my project will be so overheating for now is a big no no
Nice perspective. I DID in fact order the ZV-E1. Mainly because of the dynamic stabilization. I do mostly client work in the non-profit sector overseas, crammed in the back of Toyota Hilux. I’ve had the a6400,a6600,a7iii,a7riii and working with a gimbal is just horrid. Being able to stay alert and in point while gathering content naturally is almost impossible in real time working with a big rig. Super smooth footage at 4K will be great along with my FX6. Just wanted a smaller body with crazy good stability.
Great video Mark! I've only owned the FX30 for a week, but think I made the right decisions over the ZV-E1 for my UA-cam content. One day I hope to go full-frame, but would probably opt for a Sony a7iv.
@@jimiboi87 yes, very true. I'd say the only thing that really bugs me about it is the 4K 60 crop. I can work around it but if that were fixed, the camera would be near perfect for what I use it for
@@joshuaaruiz That's really cool. I am wanting to get an A7iv myself. All these really cool cameras have been coming out; ZV-E1, Canon R8, Lumix SHii, but they all seem to be missing one thing or another that the A7iv has, and I need a good all-rounder for video and photos. I'm getting ready to sell all my Canoon M50 stuff, which has been a great camera, to make the jump to something that's full frame, shoots log, and has 10 bit colors.
Great comparison video 👍😊 Can’t help thinking I would love an aps-c version of the a7siii with equal rolling shutter performance. Mostly to have smaller lighter zoom lenses. I jumped from GH5s to A7SIII and I really do miss the lightness of smaller sensor cameras.
Sigma 16-28 or Tamron 17-28? I'd also be curious how a 2.8 full frame performs on the ZV-E1 VS a 1.4 on the ZV-E10 in lowlight. Can the better sensor make up for all of those stops?
On the ZV-E1 can you do "Clean output" at 4k on the HDMI port? Considering picking one up but today I record to a HDMI capture device and need the clean out. I can't find an answer anywhere, seems like yes but want to verify before I switch to a new camera system.... lol
Hey Mark, which of these 2 cameras would you recommend for a controlled studio setting for UA-cam talking head videos? If I go with the FX30, I would use the Sigma 30mm 1.4. Wouldn't I get about the same look as full frame? My main concern with the ZVE1 is overheating as I record multiple videos up to 1+ hours and do livestreams at 4K 24p, Slog3 with autofocus. Thanks for your thoughts!
the fx30 is for you. those longer record times are better won’t be fx30. also, the sigma 30mm won’t go on the zv-e1 without a big clear image zoom - with in my opinion is not ideal
You did a really great job of explaining the differences between these two cameras, but now I'm having an even harder time deciding which I would want! The reliability of the FX30 is really necessary for me in some cases, but dang, the Z1 just has some features that would be reeeaaaallly nice for my specific needs too.
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Yeah, I think that, at least in this context, it's a matter of the "right" choice vs. the "cool" choice, as much as I hate to admit.
I think I’ll get the ZVE1 because I do have the Sony a7iii already. I don’t want to deal with crop sensor or poor low light performance. My question is: can the FX30 produce great results with a 24mm 1.4 gmaster? …. I think the ZVE1 is the best value …
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis at first was thinking of getting the FX30 and get a cheaper lens options. However the features that come with the E1, I felt (might be wrong) it's more suited for a solo travel, self filming situation. But the 1 SD card kinda kills me off. Justly 2 days ago, I just came back from Japan. Last day of Japan trip I had my SD card corrupted and I lost bout 11 clips in total for my travel videos. I forgot to set it to dual recording on my a7IV, bummer. Now I am afraid to have it only 1 sd card slot.
I just ordered a FX30 here in the Philippines. I already have a FX6 I ordered before coming from the US. I just want a three camera setup for a podcast. I will order another FX30 next month.
Hey😊, I had a ZV e10 for my first 2 years of videography and content creation and I think I used it to the limit(i hate the 8bit, the low light and the stabilization issues). Thats why I'm about to buy an upgrade and I'm struggling to decide between fx30 zve1 and A7c2. I do know all the specs already but still not sure about what to pick. The fx30 is more reliable and marketed as a small fx3. I would get the fx3 if I had the money for it (so not for now). Then the zve1 has better stability and way better low light performance and dynamic range but seems to overheat. Also I don't need so many vlogging features like cinemativ mode or easy to use overlay and the question is if more low light is more important than having more lights with the fx30. I do know my craft to some degree by now. Do you have a good advice? I know with good lighting everything can look good also apsc but buying and carrying these lights is also to consider. And there are also the a7cii and a7iv with other cons. Thank you for you good videos in gernerall by the way 😊I hope you can help me. (I'm definitely video first person, and I do videos style like gawx and life if riza)
I still don't understand why the APSC suffers from a lot of cropping in the 120fps 4k. i mean... what is the reason to make a small sensor even smaller?
since it has enough megapixels to crop in, they can increase the readout speed by using a smaller part of the sensor and then there will less rolling shutter and they won’t need to line-skip or pixel bin.
I am #TeamFX30. If you live on a continent like me with great heat in the summer the E1 seems to let you play Russian Roulette with its overheating issues. Also to consider that you guys in North America have lower list prices, but add sales tax to it, whereas the cheapest I have seen an FX30 body in say Germany is $2278. I heard in some EU countries the E1 will cost a cool $2825 sales tax included. Both prices include sales tax, which of course a company can get back, but not the average user. I was impressed to see an external remote shutter custom device that let the FX30 take 10 burst photos without AF, hope some company will manufacture it. For sort of a EVF support I got the Kamerar CVF1 in the US.
I've been struggling between the thought of just spending the money on an a7s3 or fx3 vs getting an fx30 or zv-e1. My primary focus is filming sports and getting high quality slo-mo so I wouldn't be doing much low-light shooting. However, I have been asked to shoot weddings, real estate and the random pro-mo. With that being said, what would your suggestion be?
Hi again ....- i like a7iv but with that overheat issues...mmm....I liked the cooler system of fx30 but no having mecanic shutter and i readed i may cause some artifacts on photos with electronic shutter,,its that true?
Thanks for this comparison. Ive been considering upgrading to an FX-30 from a ZV-E10 mainly for 4k 60 and 120, but hearing the 120 is noisy is a bit concerning. Is it the same for 60? Still hard to choose the new ZV camera though because in Australia it looks like it's an extra $1000, and I'll have to get a new lens on top of that :s
4k120 is a bit noisy, yes, but for the most part in good light - extremely useable. the zv-e1 being so expensive and also likely to overheat in 4k120 quickly makes it tricky
OK,, if i had to choose, the FX30 would be my choice. I tthought it would be cheaper for the ZV-E1, but nooo, it's not. I will get it when i get somewhat good with my camera and that's why i went with ZV-e10 first
If you don't need to record for long periods and you have the extra $400 then the ZVE1 is the camera to get. Although if money wasn't a factor then I'd probably grab the A7RV instead.
I'm completely sold on the Sony ZVe1. It will blow the FX30 out of the water. Fullframe, amazing sensor, Air. There is no comparison here. The E1 would eat the FX30 alive!
They say that it’s upscaled when cropped. Is this different than the a7iv which I understand is a 6k or 7k sensor with some of these other Sonys? Also how can Sony lie and say there’s no loss of quality? On a rounding technicality? Or will it really be indistinguishable?
the cropping and upscaling is different than the 7k downsampled to 4K. the 7k downsampled will give you higher quality, it’s the opposite of cropping and upscaling. Sony is t really “lying” they are just vaguely saying you won’t see a difference. and sometimes you won’t. maybe never - I’m not sure - I’ll have to test it - but I certainly see a loss in quality on my other Sony cameras when I clear image zoom all the way
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis So this is a true 4k sensor then? Not 7k? And a7siii is a 6k or 7k right? If so, I wonder if the difference really is negligible. But if you’re worried about crops, maybe zve1 isn’t the way to go compared to a7iv and a7siii. Man I’m still considering a7iv over this. So funny how each camera has pros and cons.
Great video Mark! Personally I'm torn between this and the A7IV, love the lowlight from both. I only have apsc lenses from my zve10, so the fact the A7IV has a dedicated apsc mode in 4k is what's holding me back. I do eventually want to buy full frame glass.
A7iv had great lowlight. out of the two, I would go with the A7iv, but that’s because I like to shoot photos and sometimes I get paid for photo / video projects
The A7IV is better built, has an EVF, better screen, more megapixels, and more programmable buttons. The only thing you'd probably miss from the EV1 is 4K120 but how often would you even use that?
@@VZAAGE well I have the a7iv and the thing that bugs me the most is the crop in 4K 60, and the fact that you can input LUTs in the ZV-E1 is so helpful when exposing for slog3
@DuckGoneQuackers the ZV-E1 can be used with APS-C lenses while using Clear Image Zoom (same as on A7iv) but you’ll still be able to use features like autofocus etc on the ZV-E1… this pretty much sold me to get the E1 instead of 7iv as I have only APS-C lenses just like you
i'm going to be insane like you and have both! I have the FX30, so now all I need to do is pick up the ZV-E1. When that will happen, I am not sure. But, it is def on my wishlist. I think the two together will make a great pairing. P.S. I think not including a full sized HDMI was necessary to keep the price down. The ZV-E1 already has the sensor of the A7Siii and the autofocus of the A7R5. So, including a full sized HDMI would have made it way too close to the A7Siii. The single SD card slot was also needed for the lower price.
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis I actually like the creative features of the ZV-E1 where you can choose a stylized color grade with the cinemascope bars. It can be used in a fun way to shoot something different. I think Sony created a smart camera. Not only for vlogging, but, with tools to have fun with it.
Hi Mark. I recently purchased a fx30. Very impressive camera. I am sure i was seeing 11 picture profiles in the menu and if i am correct 11th picture profile is for s-cinetone??. But suddenly today profile 7 8 9 are nowhere to be seen and 11th profle is showing gamma slog. I am very confused. Did i mess up some settings in the camera. Very worried . Did not update any software and still on version 1.02
Nothing to worry about. You can reset any profiles back to their default (says reset at the bottom of the picture profile settings). But those are just settings Sony puts in as “suggestions” you can make any of them match - you could make them all the same if you wanted. Your 7,8,9 are available if you put the camera into log mode. 5e fx30 is like Sony cinema cameras do it’s laid out different,y. Choose log and l flexible iso and you see them. Also, if you wanted to use your log into the “log” mode, you can set any oth the 1-6, and 10-11 to be one of your logs.
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis thank you so much for putting my mind at ease. Your channel is both insightful and fun to watch. And 1 of the reasons I got an fx30. If I don't watch for the knowledge imparted. I make sure I come back for your sense of humor. Thank you. Hope your channel grows exponentially.
Man, always entertaining & inisghtful at the same time before the zv e1, I have my eyes locked on the fx30. However that full frame (low light prowess and DR capability) got me leaning towards it. Then the 1 card slot only kinda is a deal breaker. My intentions to upgrading from my current A6000 to either zv e1 or fx30 is for future paid wedding works. Praticality says go for fx30, but that low light and very good rolling shutter performance is kinda hard to just shrug it off Well, I think I will let my budget do the decision making when its time to purchase one. 😂😂😂
For me the only thing that makes it tough is the dynamic stabilization. I want that so bad. I think I’d still likely go for fx30 as my bcam. I shoot an a7iv. Mostly I just feel excited for what is coming in the future.
Hey Mark ! I have the option to choose between the ZV-E1 with the Tamron 28-75mm f2.8 or the FX30 with the Sigma 18-50mm f2.8 and either the Sigma 16mm f1.4 or the Viltrox 13mm f1.4. Since I’m just starting my career as a videographer and plan to shoot music videos and social media content, which setup would you recommend? Thanks !!!
I've got both the zv-e10 and fx30 and love them both. I understand what Sony are trying to do with the zv-e1 however I don't really think it hits the mark. it's too expensive for the target market. The zv-e10 was a no brainer as it was so affordable and at over $2000+ I'd rather have an a7iv. I honestly think most young content creators 9 times out of ten are better off using their iPhone or getting a proper mirrorless camera that won't overheat and have so many drawbacks
Mark, the Sony ZV-E1 was so close but where I live it would be relegated to an indoor only vlogging or studio camera. I am still kind of shocked by the overheating. If it didn't overheat I would be all over it.
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis yep, it would be interesting to see in RL, overheating issue is the only one holding me away from this purchase. otherwise great compact FF travel camera.
currently on the ZV-E10, very excited or the E1 upgrade. Been looking for a 4k60 no crop for a LONG time. For a bit it only seemed like the A7Siii could do it but the price tag was to high for me!
really difficult choice. I want a futureproof camera for freelance work to rig up and use. But I also want to use it for youtube/content creation. Plus I have a quite limited budget as a student.
Which of these cameras are better for travel video shots? I think I go with the ZV-E1. More flexible in low light, small and light weight and at least I‘m a full frame fanboy 😅
I have a question! If I want to use the tiny 11mm cropped lens on a Fullframe body.... It will have better focus on that new ZV-E1 rather than the A7iv, right? And what about the new stab mode, will work using the 11mm as ASPC like a 16mm on the Z1?
Well, the a7iv focus is amazing - and that has an apsc crop mode so the 11 will work perfectly on it. Putting the 11 on the zv-e1 means you’ll have to clear image zoom in. The autofocus should work well though after you do rhat
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis I do love your content and the care and hard work that you put into it! I`m trying not get to crazy on the RGB madness that took over YT few years ago ... but sometimes my videos in short format get " mud like fill "because the mix of warm artificial light in the background and the natural of day light on me! (just sharing) ... About this cameras... what would be smartest EZ-E1 or a A7C for a youtuber?
I just bought the FX30 last week an haven’t opened yet. I was going to pair it with my A7iv as my b cam for interviews but now idk if I want to return it to get the ZV-E1 for the low light an amazing auto focus. What camera one you prefer for interviews a sometimes streaming gaming??
stick with the fx30 for that. it’s awesome - perfect for interviews or longer streams. the zv-e1 is going to have heat issues streaming for longer periods I would say. the autofocus on the fx30 is pretty much perfect - so no worries there - but for sure the zv-e1 is better in lowlight
Does streaming run cooler than recording? I’ve heard this device has overheating issues but whatever I get, I plan to use for streams as well. Needs to handle 1080 30 for 6 hours 10 hours hell even 24 hours at time.
And now along comes the a6700 to make things even more difficult to choose! What should I go for if I'm upgrading from Sony a7sii with four nice full-frame lenses?
Spot on Mark Thanks for the timely comparison and clarification. Once I got my head around Sony’s confusing model designations the choice was easy. It comes down to sensor size. If you’re shooting APSC the FX30 is a pro upgrade from the ZV-E10. For full frame the more expensive ZV-E1 is the entry level option to the even pricer FX3. I think I’ve got that right. Probably not. Seems Sony releases a new camera Every other month or so. Yet plenty of pix n vids still being shot on a6000 series and A73. Probably going to stay with a6400 and Sigma 30mm 1.4 forever. Thanks anyhow, very informative and entertaining.
Great presentation thanks. You sold me on the ZV-E1. Why wouldn't Sony just put the same cooling system in the ZV-E1? What do you think of the fan systems you can get?
I love the ZV-E1 - here is a fan I use for long streaming sessions amzn.to/3Rp5J3c it works well, but I use an elastic band for extra security because sometimes the suctions cups let go.
Great Video Bro. If I have an FX6 and mainly shoot with an FX6 for UA-cam videos but want a handheld camera for vlogging but also a Bcam to the fx6 for different angles which one? Please help 😊
Already own a FX30, looking for a second cam for different angles, top down, etc... Was eyeing A7iv. ZVE1 has great features but the overheating thing just turns me off. What would you suggestion for a second camera purchase to compliment the FX30? Thanks!
Can't believe how fast you're pushing out content! Feed our camera crisisss and keep em cominggggggg
haha - the algorithm makes me!!
That you so much for making this video! I just bought my FX30 a few weeks ago and I needed this clarity. I was on my way to a camera crisis!
Glad I could help!
Thanks for the info!!
Very underrated channel. You have been doing a great job for a while. Hopefully YT algorithm keeps bumping you up
Thanks for saying that. Chugging along over here 😂
*I just got the FX30 today and I bought it because it was an entry level Cinema Camera that focused on video only.
Dirk
Greetings from USA Dirk!
Dirk
I love my FX30. Will be shooting a lot more videos this spring and summer 😘
Best option if u already own apsc glass
I'm debating between these two cameras myself. Do you think that fx30 would give similar image quality as this ZvVE1 full frame in a controlled studio setting? If I go with the FX30, I would use the sigma 30mm 1.4. Thanks!
It will probably depend on what you want to do, the lower megapixel count on the zv-e1 is designed to be better in low light situations where the fx30 will have higher detail in good lighting conditions, and the built in fan will prevent over heating on longer shoots. Great comparison video
Until how many minutes your zv e10 starts to heat up at a point where you should stop using it? Planning to buy that cam.

Sending love from India ❤️.
the zv-e10 is still my number one recommendation- best bang for buck camera out there!!
Nothing wrong with that camera at all. I still use my ZV-1 on a bible when I’m worried about damaging my fx and it still looks great.
@@ItsMe_Philippines good to know !
Cheers!
Well said, Lucas! 👏🏻
FX30 is an actual reliable camera, you should never bring a camera that could overheat to a paid job. If it’s for vlogging and your own content creation probably the EV-1
yes indeed
100% 🤌🙌
even for vlogging, do you need to bring an icepack for it?
I’ll have fun with my overheating camera that produces great image quality. I’ll bring it to the next few shoots I have as well😬 I’ll let you know how it goes (I live in the desert so you best believe it’ll be hot).
Exactly this ! Also they mentioned 4K 120fps 1080p 240… but never buy a camera for what it can be… buy it for what it is.
Now this is the video about the ZV-E1 i have been waiting for.
What high level camera for filmmakers & videographers?

Thanks for this comparison Mark! Just what I've been waiting for.
P.S. I've always been thinking that your lights and wall were far away! 😂
movie magic 🤣🤣
The camera is overhyped. Very expensive only 12mpx no CineEi overheats no double slots for sdcards and no cfxpress plus the new Apsc sensor is amazing. Everyone is talking about the low light performance of the FX30 but I find it amazing if you know what you're doing. I prefer the cinema camera for shooting movies. Full frame I prefer only for portrait photography. Anyways RED just announced a non FF camera the V Raptor super 35 8K. Look at Blackmagic too non FF either. Anyways great video.
Yup - the fx30 is a fantastic pro level camera. The zv-e1 really is more of a premium casual camera
Nightclubs and bar interior shots (both photo and video) which is better? Does it have a lot of effect if it is full frame? The FX30 seems better, but low light shooting is important to me.
The zv-e1 is best
Best camera channel when comes to these type of comparisons
Thanks!!
I currently have:
- Sony RX10 mk IV for livestreaming, but the HDMI port is failing on me, so it's unreliable.
The real question is:
Is there anyone here in the comment section that has used the FX30 for fast moving subjects and if so, how does the rolling shutter look like, as well as the AF when the fast moving subject passes by?
I did a 2.5 hour livestream (1080p) with the ZV-E1 with no overheating issues. Just make sure you get a USB-C SS 3.1 cable- Sony gave an onscreen warning that my cheap USB-C cable would mean only 720p.
Thanks for the info - yes - 1080 will be much better for the heat
They really need to start putting good screens on all the cameras.
Also, you just blew my mind. I always figured that background was at least 5ft away!
😂😂
i just brought the sony fx30. the fan and a few other things swung it that way for me and my workflow
You get a smooth ride with all the futuristic AI features with the Tesla...but when its time to work, move stuff around, ride off-road, carry some heavy load, and hold up against scratches and bumps...you take the Ford.
bruh give this man a round of applause lol

Another nice one Mark. I'm walking over to Vistek to pick-up my FX30 later today. It freaked me out a little when you touched that light. It looks like it's a mile behind you.

This is what your cameras brain is doing with the sensor image when using Clear Image Zoom and outputting 4K video
ZVE1 = 12MP
4K Video = 8MP (about)
The 12MP sensor is already DOWN sampling
That allows you 0.5x clear image zoom and you are still inside of 8MP (4K video)
as you zoom, the camera effectively shifts the pixels while keeping you inside of 4k :)
love your videos
Which camera would be better if i would “downgrade” the ZV-E10 to second cam/ b roll and replace it with either Fx30 or Zv-e10. Which camera’s would pair up nicely?
what will you be shooting - and for how long and in what temperature?
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis ranging from studio work, short film, vlogging. Mostly indoors, airconditioned. sometimes outside.
@@RinaJosscy Go with the ZV-E1 in this case
If you already have APS-C lenses, then the FX30 makes more sense, and will grow with you better over time. The FX-30 also has 240fps for slo-mo that's...slower...mo? Also 2 SD slots on the FX-30 kindof makes it the only option for any professional work. If you're shooting with no redundancy, that's a huge risk to take. The ZV-E1 isn't a bad camera but I would go with the FX-30 in your situation.
Great work, it gives us a better idea before buying because I was so confused with the pros and cons. Thank you Mark!
Deciding between those , I looked for such a Video Thank you!!
Leaning towards FX30 For price and lenses choice and feature set as a video rig .
The ZV-1 for teh full frame look ,and the more advance AF but it's overheating so not sure it's right , not sure how long my project will be so overheating for now is a big no no
Thank you! I think for me the fx30 will work better now if only they come out w something with that new apsc sensor but an evf as well.
May I know why you found the gimbal to be horrid? I was thinking of getting one and would love to know the disadvantages as well.
Great video Mark! I've only owned the FX30 for a week, but think I made the right decisions over the ZV-E1 for my UA-cam content. One day I hope to go full-frame, but would probably opt for a Sony a7iv.
I have the A7IV and I’m curious to why you would choose it over the ZV-E1, which has much better video features
@@joshuaaruiz well the a7iv us more versatile with photography, doesn’t overheat, and is weather sealed, right?
Great comparison video 👍😊
Can’t help thinking I would love an aps-c version of the a7siii with equal rolling shutter performance. Mostly to have smaller lighter zoom lenses. I jumped from GH5s to A7SIII and I really do miss the lightness of smaller sensor cameras.
What have you named the FX 30
Felix!!
Sigma 16-28 or Tamron 17-28? I'd also be curious how a 2.8 full frame performs on the ZV-E1 VS a 1.4 on the ZV-E10 in lowlight. Can the better sensor make up for all of those stops?
That was fast Mark! I am still not sure about the choice between them. But great video again, waiting for samples and tests :)
On the ZV-E1 can you do "Clean output" at 4k on the HDMI port? Considering picking one up but today I record to a HDMI capture device and need the clean out. I can't find an answer anywhere, seems like yes but want to verify before I switch to a new camera system.... lol
all the Sonys have a clean out - so I can’t imagine the zv-e1 would be any different. Gerald said it has all the hdmi functionality of the A7SIIi
What about the ZV-E1 vs the A7C?

You did a really great job of explaining the differences between these two cameras, but now I'm having an even harder time deciding which I would want! The reliability of the FX30 is really necessary for me in some cases, but dang, the Z1 just has some features that would be reeeaaaallly nice for my specific needs too.

Hi Mark
First of all…gret videos!
What would you get:
1. SONY ZV E1
2. Wait for the Sony A7c II
it really depends (plus I have no idea what the a7cii will bring) - what are you shooting?
Which camera will be better for recording short videos outdoors at 100-110F degrees for an hour and indoors in low light with air conditioning?
FX30
Hey😊,
I had a ZV e10 for my first 2 years of videography and content creation and I think I used it to the limit(i hate the 8bit, the low light and the stabilization issues).
I still don't understand why the APSC suffers from a lot of cropping in the 120fps 4k. i mean... what is the reason to make a small sensor even smaller?
since it has enough megapixels to crop in, they can increase the readout speed by using a smaller part of the sensor and then there will less rolling shutter and they won’t need to line-skip or pixel bin.
sir i am a cinematic photographer i am confused whether to buy fx30 or zv-i1 plz tell me sir
I get what you’re saying 100%. As much as I would love the zv it really makes me nervous living in the Philippines.
If shooting weddings and real estate - you gotta do A7SIII, fx3 or FX30. For best slo-mo - FX3 or A7SIII
I still don’t understand how the FX30 delivers RAW. is it 6k raw or a cropped 4K raw?
Is there an A7C vs ZV-E1 comparison video in the works? These comparisons are really great!
I’ll look into it!!
What camera is best for making long aquarium videos/ fish close-ups?
OK,, if i had to choose, the FX30 would be my choice. I tthought it would be cheaper for the ZV-E1, but nooo, it's not. I will get it when i get somewhat good with my camera and that's why i went with ZV-e10 first
If you don't need to record for long periods and you have the extra $400 then the ZVE1 is the camera to get. Although if money wasn't a factor then I'd probably grab the A7RV instead.
Given my current load out...I think my plan is to upgrade my zv-e10 to the fx30 and skip the new model. I have a7v and a7iv. Thanks for the video.
I'm completely sold on the Sony ZVe1. It will blow the FX30 out of the water. Fullframe, amazing sensor, Air. There is no comparison here. The E1 would eat the FX30 alive!
it looks good for sure
@MarkBennettCameraCrisis still haven't bought the E1 just because of the overheating and the weather sealing.
Join my in my lunacy!!
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis I actually like the creative features of the ZV-E1 where you can choose a stylized color grade with the cinemascope bars.

Hey guys, which one would be better for a solely UA-cam studio setup use?
Man, always entertaining & inisghtful at the same time
before the zv e1, I have my eyes locked on the fx30. However that full frame (low light prowess and DR capability) got me leaning towards it. Then the 1 card slot only kinda is a deal breaker.
My intentions to upgrading from my current A6000 to either zv e1 or fx30 is for future paid wedding works. Praticality says go for fx30, but that low light and very good rolling shutter performance is kinda hard to just shrug it off
Well, I think I will let my budget do the decision making when its time to purchase one. 😂😂😂
for the pro work - for sure the 2 card slots and overheating resistance of the fx30 is the way to go
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis 💯 man. And also, lenses cheaper in the aps-c realm.
Anyhow, great content as always. Keep it up 👊🏼
if you want to do a wedding, ZV E1 isn't even an option. You can't film a wedding if the thing overheats in 4k within 30mins of shooting.
Any idea when the next version of 6600 is coming out , want an APS-C for carrying lighter lenses.
I want that too - but I haven't heard anything. Sony keeps everything quiet
Thanks !!!
I would get the FX30 because you want a workhorse of a camera when shooting music videos.
Totally agree.
I’ll have to see how bad (or not) it is in the summer months here. we can have days of 35 Celsius - so we will have to see
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Mark, we are praying that it's not bad. It would be a game changing value.
Would it be possible to mount full frame lenses on the fx30 and If so would there be a loss in quality or performance?
Yes - you can use full frame lenses with no loss in quality whatsoever. It's a great benefit of sharing a mount with full frame.
I already have the fx30 and I'm obsessed. So I decided to get both lmao Sony is just killing it non-stop🔥🔥🔥
join the club 🤣
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis dude, we're in. It's like a frat community except our parents don't pay for all our camera gear 🤣
really difficult choice.
I think that’s the way to go
I have a question!
Thanks for dropping the excessive blue! AAAANND for the great content!
I still like blue - but I wanted a cleaner look 🤣
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis I do love your content and the care and hard work that you put into it! I`m trying not get to crazy on the RGB madness that took over YT few years ago ... but sometimes my videos in short format get " mud like fill "because the mix of warm artificial light in the background and the natural of day light on me! (just sharing) ... About this cameras... what would be smartest EZ-E1 or a A7C for a youtuber?
On the EZ-V1 overheat; Can the camera be used with (only) external power, ie battery removed?
Wonder what DIY cooling options might be possible...
have to see about all of that when I get it in.
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Can't wait for your testing.
Keeping the APS-C update dream alive! FX-30 II? A6X00?!
i would like to see you do a break down the monitor plus app for the sony's...?
it’s good - but laggy, I’ll try to do a vid on it
I just bought the FX30 last week an haven’t opened yet.
Needs to handle 1080 30 for 6 hours 10 hours hell even 24 hours at time.
you’ll need the fx30 for that.
And now along comes the a6700 to make things even more difficult to choose!
What should I go for if I'm upgrading from Sony a7sii with four nice full-frame lenses?
I would do the A7iv - no 4k120 - but and amazing camera. The zv-e1 will be good if you record short clips
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis A7iv, interesting... I didn't consider that. I need something for corporate and documentary work.
@@LanzaroteShowcase If budget is no option . FX3 - but other than that - I would do the FX30 or A7iv
Spot on Mark
Thanks for the timely comparison and clarification. Once I got my head around Sony’s confusing model designations the choice was
easy. It comes down to sensor size. If you’re shooting APSC the FX30 is a pro upgrade from the ZV-E10. For full frame the more expensive ZV-E1 is the entry level option to the even pricer FX3.
I think I’ve got that right. Probably not. Seems Sony releases a new camera
Every other month or so.
I love your videos. They're just great! I'd love to buy the ZV-E1, but I think it's just way too overpriced. Greetings from Germany!
Great Video Bro. If I have an FX6 and mainly shoot with an FX6 for UA-cam videos but want a handheld camera for vlogging but also a Bcam to the fx6 for different angles which one? Please help 😊
Since you want to do vlogging too - I would get the ZV-E1
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis thx bro! Keep making the awesome content! Love it
Already own a FX30, looking for a second cam for different angles, top down, etc... Was eyeing A7iv. ZVE1 has great features but the overheating thing just turns me off. What would you suggestion for a second camera purchase to compliment the FX30? Thanks!
the zv-e10 is great - but only has 8-bit. if you need 10-bit probably another fx30 is the right thing to do
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis I have some full frame glass that's crying out for a full frame body. ;)
the A7iv is my fav camera all time still
How about comparing a ZV-E1 vs A7S4. That would really be awesome. I think that would be a great video. Both full frame Sonys under 3k.
it’s on the way for sure
What camera have all advantages from these two cameras?
Nothing has them all - but the closest is the fx3
