This video should have been split into two videos, one for full frame Lenses and one for APSC Lenses, many gets very confused about this video ! Now the video only looks like a bad quick commercial !!! Happy New Year.
Mostly into wildlife today, but got a 35 mm as a first walkaround lens when starting out a few years ago. I've traded that in for a 24 mm now and love it. I don't take pictures of ppl though, but rather old buildings, town squares etc, and some landscape type of photos if out in nature. Love the channel and the positive vibes!
I got the 50 first, and although I loved the massive boost in contrast and sharpness I got over the kit lens, I found the length to be impractical for what I mostly used it for: Indoor pics of family and friends around the house. I'm glad you went with the 35 as first choice, because after I got some experience myself, I also recommend the 35 over the 50 as a first prime. It's just more practical.
I love K&F Concept filters but what I love more are step up rings. This way you don't end up with a bag full of filters to fit all your different size lenses. it makes your life much easier especially if you go magnetic.
Glad to hear the 35 is a great starter… picked up da Sony 35 1.8 to replace my kit lens… was a game changer!🎉 my latest lens 24-70 gm ii has been the biggest game changer up to date for the past 2 yrs now… I still love my primes but traveling with 1 lens is da way to go!😅 Mahalo for sharing!👍🏽🤙🏽
I have to agree with the 35mm on APS-C, even though I don't have one! Looking through last year's catalogue of my own photos, 33-37mm is my commonest focal length used (Tamron 17-70 lens), which, oddly enough, does agree with the 50mm back in my FF days getting the most use also. Great video, Jason, Happy New Year. Side note: I have way too many K&F Concept products (and Neewer!) simply as they are budget friendly and good quality. Not all of us are Pro's after all 😉
Nikon z50 ii - my first step into mirrorless (still awaiting delivery). Have a D850, but have really wanted to try out some new tech, autofocus etc in these cameras.
I did almost the Bizzarro Land version of this video's recommendations - I got two very deliberately cheap and crappy lenses for my D610 - one being a plastic 38mm body cap lens, and the other being a 60mm plastic Holga one. Today was the first time the weather stopped being evil and I was able to get out and play with them. Pretty good fun. Got a lovely shot of some birds in flight that I'm going to stick up on my BlueSky (hewandersaround, if anyone's on there!) later on. :)
Worth noting too that the Micro Four-Thirds sensors are a 2.0 crop factor, meaning a 50mm on those would be a 100mm. They tend to get kind of forgotten about, or treated like APS-C by default, but there's that little added difference.
I always advice to get a 35mm and/or a 85mm prime Lens as the first Lens for full frame format Cameras (23mm and 56mm for APSC cameras) ! I can highly recommend the Sony Zeiss Sonnar 35mm 2.8 T* ZA, the Voigtländer APO-Lanthar 35mm 2.0 Aspherical, the Zeiss Batis Sonnar 85mm 1.8 T* and the Sony 85mm 1.4 GM II Lenses.
If you're using APS-C then I'd recommend the Sigma 30mm F1.4. $300 and by far one of my best lenses I ever used for that system before upgrading to full frame.
35mm is a good bet on both formats. Having said that I also love love love my Fuji 50mm F2 , but as a walk around it’s a little limiting in tighter spaces.
24 or 35mm is a good all rounder, especially with family and kids. 50 1.2 or 1.4 is prob my new favorite but idk that 24 1.4🤔. Shooting a sony full frame.
My first prime was my Rokinon 14mm f/2.8 Got my 50mm after as I became interested in doing portrait. Today I just purchased a SIGMA 70-200mm f/2.8 EX DG MACRO HSM II off my dad. Can’t wait to use it.
Hey @JasonVong I mostly need my Camera for travelphotography. What is about the 1/4000 shutterspeed or the only efcs shutter mechanism? And is the Grip on the A7CII okay with a 70-200 or is the A7IV much better with bigger lenses?
What about the Sony 35mm 1.8 vs the Sigma 35mm 1.4? If someone would have the budget for either, which one would you recommend? I like the Sony but Im considering the more expensive Sigma
Is the Sigma 35mm F/1.4 you're considering the FF version? If so, the only thing it's a really big lens for APSC which I assume you're shooting with? The 35mm F/1.8 OSS I linked is for APSC. I like it more cause it's small and it has OSS so it's perfect for APSC bodies with no IBIS. But if size and weight doesn't matter, the Sigma 35mm 1.4 is REALLY nice!
Hey Jason!, I just switched my zve10 to a zve1. I wanted to ask you for Fullframe Lens Advice. My plan is to stress test the zve1 in my 2 week period with all my use cases and if that doesn't work i will get the a7c2 even though photography isn't really my focus😁. Maybe you can give one for the lens choice. I do make videos in a gawx life of riza style. Do you have like a 2 or 3 lens combo that you think would work perfectly for it? My budget for it is only 700€🤔 i was thinking of a 35mm 1.8 and a 85mm 1.8 to cover the midwide to close up range even though i would probably mis a bit of the 50 range. I do come from apsc so i don't really know yet if 24-70 2.8 would have the same or enogh background blur as my sigma 16mm 1.4 before(but apsc)? 🙈😅do you have a good advice? I'm not a doing any vlogs but real filmmaking as a style🤔 and i love your videos especially the lighting And happy new year 💯🥳 may all your dreams become memories😁
It's really confusing to pick the right lens for my apsc sony camera. Thanks for your lessons in many videos, and in the end will buy Sony 35mm F/1.8 OSS instead of 50mm OSS. It will have the "looks" of 50mm full frame. And if we use a 35mm full frame lens, what "looks" that we get ?
@@JasonVong 😥it make my head want to buy the FF instead but maybe later saved for other prime len like Sony Sonnar T* FE 55mm f/1.8 ZA it will have "looks" 85mm right? Maybe must consider to buy FF Camera later 😄 Baby step first
Even within Sony E mount, there are full frame lenses, and there are APSC lenses. a 35mm full frame lens has a different field of view than a 35mm APSC lens. What makes in confusing for beginners is that a 35mm "E" lens will ALWAYS be 52.5 mm equivalent field of view on both an APSC and Full Frame bodies, so its almost false advertising. If you want to distinguish between Sony lenses, "E" lenses are APSC and "FE" lenses are full frame lenses.
Happy new year Jason! There is something I don't understand in the video, for example you've put the link of the 35mm SEL 1.8, that lens is made for APS-C if I'm not mistaken. So, since it's made for APS-C, is it a 35mm lens worth 35mm or does it still convert to 52mm anyway?
Yes! I actually got the a7C R. Love the size, and I think you will like it too with the a7C II. I can do without dual card slots which is probably the most important difference if you need it for client work
@ I mostly need it for travelphotography. What is about the 1/4000 shutterspeed or the only efcs shutter mechanism? And is the Grip okay with a 70-200?
Uhncle Jason, (aiyaa) I live in Japan, but want to sell my American (aka no Japanese language) a7r3. I want to sell it 'cause I've upgraded. Do you have a recommendation?
@@FreshBankai I was about to say lol 😂 but his reasoning makes sense. I was very budget conscious to link the Viltrox and they came out with their 35mm at a very good time! A shame I didn't get a chance to use it for the video but the reviews for their 56mm version seems well loved.
