OK I am in love with this camera, but the lens is going to be stupid expensive oh my God I have a canon 80 D since 2016. I think I am going to love this camera. It’s perfect time to switch over to Sony 😊
P.S. Firmware update? For the 120fps? :)))))))))))))) This is like Fallout games since Bethesda took over 🙈 We will release a game, albeit a camera…. And finish it later 🙈🙈🙈🙈🙈 Wow…. 2023 looks nice. I would laugh so hard, if Sony forgets about that firmware update. Cause you know that that is a possibility, right?
Great video Jason. Just got a ZV-E1 through from Sony to run with for a few weeks and really looking forward to it. Already done some Webcam tests with it plugged into USB-C keeping it powered so no dummy battery needed and in 1080p (perfect for webcam) the quality is insanely good PLUS with the battey door open, no overheating after 3 hours 👍🏻
I just got my first Sony a couple months ago, I found and ended up getting the a6300 with 4 batteries and a 3 slot battery charger for $374 and the Sigma 30mm 1.4 for $189 at National Pawn. Both are in mint condition and I couldn't be happier with my purchases. I also got the DJI Ronin SC brand new for less than $200 in January!
Well, I know that Sony markets this camera to Vloggers, but as a travel vlogger, I do not think this camera suits me. First, although it has a quite small body compared to A7's body, the actual problem of full-frames portability is on their big and heavy lenses. Instead of keeping to reduce the body's size and taking away features like EV and the wheels which are really crucial sometime, it's better for Sony to develop more portable FF Lenses for vloggers, ex: using lighter material, better specced pancake, etc. Second, Sony doesn't realize that vloggers also take photos and with 12 MP in 2023, it is really a No Go for photography. Looking at those two big issues, I'll stick to A7C for now. By the way, it's a nice and clear review! Well done!
Not true. With a gm lense this sensor is amazing and 12mp are enough for web and social media use. Of course you must be proficient enough to compose good pics without the need for cropping
its the AI chp and sensor, making it as fast and reliable as A7r5 for autofocus with the low light sensitivity of A7sIII, all that for 2/3rd the price make it a pretty lethal combination.
Absolutely a no brainer for travel enthusiasts who don't need to shoot constant hours in studio or for professional work like shooting ads and long hours in the heat.
The hot-shoe external viewfinder is a must for the future of this particular model, even for the ZV-E10. It would open it up to a whole new market. Be smart, Sony, make your cameras as versatile as possible!
That illustrative scene in AI auto framing at 15:38 had me die laughing. Always love your video centric sharing - really shows your competency level from a pro and consumer perspective. Thank you Jason!
The A7C is still my work horse. This camera is exciting though. Would be an awesome B cam to the A7C for better low light performance. I would like to carry both honestly.
Finally, though a dash late, I just bought a Samsung s23 ultra with 4 lenses on it. Is a beaut as well for vlogging purposes on a minimal rig. But this was what I had waited for for so long and never happened.... until 2 months after. Oh well. Still good news for the camera industry.
I was gonna get the E10 a few weeks ago but thought I'd wait to see the differences with the E1. The E10 is £540 in the UK, so the E1 is nearly 4x more expensive. Although it seems like a great camera for vlogging, the features don't seem to be 4x better than the E10. Both using the same lens & settings, I doubt anyone watching on their phone or computer would be able to see a difference in video quality. I think the ZV1, ZV1f & E10 were definitely made with vloggers in mind, but the E1 seems to be more about adding features to bump up the price. P.S. I've spent the past 3hrs watching every ZV E1 video posted. This is by faaaaaaarr the best video as yet.
I have the ZV-1 and with Sony flash is really good. Sony ZV-E10 is an apsc sensor which is a level over the 1"sensor. With a very qualitative lense yes you are two levels above sony ZV-1. But recent smartphones have reached the quality of 1"sony sensor and i predict that in 3-4 years will surpass even the incredible quality of an apsc sensor. So i think better a full frame sensor camera 📸 which is another one level above apsc sensors. With a very qualitative lense you will have a super compact professional camera. For somebody who has nothing it is ok ZV-E10. But for somebody who searches the perfection i consider sony a7iv or sony a7c or sony ZV-E1 are the best choices.
I get there with the hype on this camera. I was pretty excited at first, but the further we get from the release date the more I realize this camera is a big step forward in terms of useless added AI fluff (which is fun but functionally pointless in terms of daily work), and a major step backwards in terms of what we actually need in our cameras (terrible LCD, horrendously absent heat dissipation). This is essentially a $2,000+ entry level camera with some of the same inherent issues as the second generation of Sony Alpha cameras... issues which should have been left long in the past. The ZV-E1 is going to be a camera that completely fades into obscurity over the next 12 months... I wouldn't be surprised if the now virtually unsupported a7s III is still doing more sales than the ZV-E1 in one years time. Substance vs. fluff. Love my Sony cameras. I still have an a7s III, an a7 IV, FX3 and will likely grab an FX6 sooner or later. I think in the real world the ZV-E1 will sell a lot early on because of all the over the top hype that's been built up, but as real users start to try to work these cameras into their daily workflow they will start riding primarily on the shelf and then we'll get a wave of "Sony ZV-E1 A Year Later - was buying this camera a huge mistake?!" videos that expose the glaring issues this camera has that make it unsuitable for pro work while also being too expensive for hobbyists.
I agree with a lot of this - but I do think the sensor sets the camera apart from anything entry-level. I can imagine that this could become Sony's version of the Sigma fp - a tiny little camera with an incredibly good sensor that isn't super practical for "serious" use until you rig it up in a certain way. This camera with a monitor, a tiny little fan, and a dummy battery connected to a different power source, could be a pretty powerful little machine for roughly the price of a new a7IV body.
@@JasonVong I got overly excited. I commented as soon as I started the video, I saw it eventually. Thanks, but you didn’t need to share the time code. Appreciate it Jason 🙏🏼
Man you just went BEAST MODE on the 4 k 60 without crop gesture like it's been boiling for the last 3 years. Lol what a signature moment. You got a new sub baby. Keep them coming.
4:36 Agreed. If Sony made that electronic viewfinder available for this camera, I'd buy it hands down. As you know, the LCD screen is useless for critical focus, framing and exposure in bright sunny days! Why Sony doesn't offer this expensive accessory for the FX3/30 and this new E1 is unbelievable.
I just finished a beautiful handheld video of boats going down canals using the a6400. While filming, the thought 'There's no way I could do this without an EVF' occurred to me repeatedly.
That's exactly what I want it for. I want to replace my A6500 with something compact that fits on my DJ bag. I don't always want to carry my A7IV with me. This looks like it would be perfect!
You obviously loved this camera! Such enthusiasm and passion come through on your channel. And, you're pragmatic. Question - a year later - still just as enthused?
Just pre ordered this camera can't wait to start vlogging with it...one question... I need an sd card for this camera. Do you think I really need that sony tough sd card? Is it a must or any other sd card would work just fine. Thanks again for the awesome content. 👌
I know nothing about cameras but saw your reel on ig and had to watch the video! Super good video and made me want one of these and upgrade from my zv1
Man, what a great camera. I swear Sony is doing everything I moved to Fujifilm for. Meanwhile Fujifilm is over here discontinuing all their smaller cameras and going full into the bulky full frame sized ones. Maybe I have to switch back. 😂 It looks like they improved the colour a bit too. Potato jet noticed that Blues have less magenta cast, giving a nicer sky.
You keep saying they didn't need to go that hard, but in fairness, they have been slacking significantly since I got in to Sony over 4 years ago. I switched for them being ahead of the game then then really slowed down and ramped up prices. This is exactly where they need to be now and as long as the price stays low then we should see some decent competition. Anything less would have been unacceptable
Im thinking this camera and the 15mm 1.4 APSC lens will be the ultimate vlogging / travel combo? Especially using the Active IBIS and Clear Image Zoom to get rid of the vignetting.
@@JasonVong ahh true…didn’t think about that. I’m still trying to figure out the lightest combo! Not sure if you’re at camera camp this year but it was nice meeting you during 2019’s camera camp!

Hey Jason. I mean, at this point with Sony being up front about overheating and abysmal run times because of it in 4k60, and you are in Cali were temps are well above the 72 degree tests I have seen...maybe you know it will be addressed soon to buy two of them for your use? Hoping they do an actual A7C II down the road. We will see? Cheers.
I'll be getting this Sony ZV-E1. Looks super cool. Will the FE PZ 16-35 mm F4 G lens match well with this? As an amateur and newbie, I am into videography and vlogging. What lens would you recommend?
I LOVED YOUR REVIEW SO MUCH!!! I always love your energy. This camera would have been a no-brainer for an overseas shoot I have coming up, then I heard the price. Sadly, this will be a solid pass for me. But your review was flawless.
I've had the camera for a year. I enjoy using it for creating content online. I will however say that the overheating is an issue sometimes. When I batch film 15min videos. After about an hour I have to wait, or it cuts in the middle of a video. This is a bit annoying as I fear filming to long. I don't have that issue on my A7C for example. I could trust it would never overheat.
Aight now that I watched the rest... Yes, this camera seems just what I (an independent filmmaker/ smaller production company) was waiting for! Main shooter is FX3. Cam B is A7C. The Vlog camera is the original ZV1. This will probably replace my A7C (or I might just keep it for backup) and/or allow me to do 3 camera setups for productions now without breaking the bank. Or I might actually have it become my vlog camera because I was starting to feel the differences with my ZV1 as well. This camera came right on time TBH because I was starting to wonder if I should just get an FX30 but now that I left APSC I don't feel like going back. Thanks for this detailed review as always Jason (and Vivian 🥰).
I have the A7C, it’s been a great hybrid shooter! But this… I might need this to complete my setup. I don’t know if I want to sell the A7C though, because of the higher MP sensor I want for photos
I was about to buy the A7S3/FX3, should I buy this instead?! I wanted to trade my Sony a6400 to the A7s3/FX3 to use filmmaking but watching this new ZV-E1 I can't decide anymore. :(

What about series photo? Recording time heating? Is this a dream? Entry level for 3.000 $ ? Btw is timelapse mode?
Hello, Jason. Would you recommend this camera for travel and hiking videos?
Was gonna get the A7c for my 1st full frame currently have the Zve-10 but now it’s a full frame and same size that’s crazy
I have the A7C, it’s been a great hybrid shooter!
But this… I might need this to complete my setup. I don’t know if I want to sell the A7C though, because of the higher MP sensor I want for photos
so hyped, makes me wanna buy one. thanks for the detailed first look video
This video literally got me insanely pumped!!!!!!!!!!!!!!’ Jason you…….!!!!!!

Do you think this would fare well for sports videography? Especially outdoor evening sports?

Thanks Sim!!!
Love your energy, man!!! Great review too!
I whish my A5100 would use touch for navigating menus and controlling camera functions instead of just focusing. This looks great.
I was about to buy the A7S3/FX3, should I buy this instead?! I wanted to trade my Sony a6400 to the A7s3/FX3 to use filmmaking but watching this new ZV-E1 I can't decide anymore. :(
I’m in the same boat. I’ve got the FX3 just hanging in my cart.
good lord the enthusiasm in this video is infectious, BUTT CHEEKS WIDE OPEN! LOLOLOL
This is a sick camera with an intro that compliments it. Awesome job Jason!!!
Excellent video brother! The more I watch these videos the more I’m favoring the ZV-E1….
