Tank destroyers have a unique weapon damage in the code that allows them to ignore armor and deal full damage where other tanks have a hard time with armor.

No, their weapon is simply set to be insanely high dmg (150 per shot) while dealing minimal to anything except heavy armor.
Still useless againts infantry and building. Also 1 on 1 vs apocalype still be destroyed.
@@JayJay-wf2oe there weapon uses a unique damage type called “UltraAP”. From the wiki:
The UltraAP damage type deals full damage to units with light and heavy armour.
Looks to me that the Tank Destroyer suffers from having to rotate the whole hull, much slower than the Apocs' turrets
Which is true to a tank destroyers design: just a massive gun on tracks with frontal armor, not designed for front line charges, rather designed for defensive ambushes against tanks.

I knew that there was no chance of an apocalypse, but the first battle was a surprise for me! I did not expect this from this! Apocalypse you are a monster!
One reason for that is range, half of TDs initially can't hit any Apocs while all Apocs have range.
It can kill units in the air too.😉 Russian Weapon are amazing.

@Tohkamiku Emilia prism tank probably not good for tank solo, but it destroys buildings FAST and have long range.
Not suprising though, tank destroyer rank-up has been poured out increase damage against vehicles only while the apocalypse dmg has distributed into vehicles,infantry, base and aircraft
Which further proves that promoted TDs, even at just Veteran Level instead of Elite, are not to be fked around with.
That's why spies are vital for allied gameplay
This just goes to show what everyone who has played RA2 back in the day has known, or at least suspected, that even when adjusted for cost, the tank destroyer just isn't good value, not even when paired against the one thing they're supposed to be good at destroying.
Much better off using tanks, which are well rounded in their damage type and armor, and far better mobility to boot.
But yes, the elite results were surprising! Even so, never going to have a lot of TDs survive to elite..

In these videos it would be nice also that we saw how high are the production rates (time to build the units) because while some units you can just spam and they are ready and some take a while longer which has an impact on games.

In red alert 4, they should add the mechanic of unlock ability of certain unit when promoted or level up. Like inc dmg, armor, health, range and its unique specialty. There are only 3 rank and you have inly 3 stat points to distribute on to those abilities but the max lvl is 3. Like lvl 3 hp or lvl 1 hp, def qnd dmg so on. Players have more choices to build its units and more creative and strategic.

Against things actually considered tanks, elite tank destroyers are pretty damn effective
This kinda mirrors tank destroyers irl, a little bit. They are support units made to kill tanks, not to battle them head to head where the weaker armor could easily spell their doom.

More compact ranged units always win depending on range.
It appears that the reload rate of the tank destroyers is what saved those apocs at the first battle.
Apocalypse tank is average vehicle. I would go for Mastermind, Prism tank, and Battle fortress
Also, for whatever reason TDs have to drive too close before they start firing, and turn the whole tank.

The simulation feels off. Turn out would be different if TD's can get a wrap around. A lot of firepower is lost instantly because a lot of units were just at the back waiting for their turn to take a shot.
Yes, but this is true to their design: tank destroyers do not have rotating turrets like tanks do. So lack of mobility in battle is one of their downsides, as well as lack of armor, and lack of weaponry against other threats other than tanks. They are a very specialized type of vehicle.
Really felt like the tank destroyers weren't using their range advantages. Literally driving right up against the apocalypse tanks rather than stopping once they were close enough to shoot the lead vehicles.

To be fair, this is Apocalypse tanks we're talking about. Tank Destroyers I am pretty certain will take care of any Rhino or Grizzly.

apocalypse is very versatile unit, whereas td are only good vs tanks. very impractical to waste your resources on a one-way unit

Really shows how badly designed this tank is, should always beat tanks by a wide margin on like to like cost to make it at all viable as it can't do anything else at all. Probably one of the worst unit designs they did. Would be nice to have some kind of balance patch to RA2 like modern games had lol
There is on cncnet where td got some buffs to speed range and can 1 shot terror drones. Tesla tanks also got some mad buffs too.
