I met Tommy and his then wife years ago on a cruise to the Caribbean. Literally hung out with him all week. My whole life I was a big bodybuilder and thats how we got talking. Tommy was an extremely nice guy - as well as being very generous. He actually spent about $1,000 in a casino teaching me how to play blackjack. He did party his ass off as well. I carried him to his room a few late nights that week. I asked him point blank about being HIV and he said getting syringes was hard back then and he used to inject steroids and he and a few of his gym buddies would share needles.
At the end of the week we swapped info and for quite some we called each other or wrote letters. Very cool guy and definitely had some demons

When I was in junior high and high school I did golden gloves. I worked out at a gym called "Bell recreation center" in Kansas City, Kansas this would have been when Tommy had about 3-4 pro fights under his belt. Tommy was the only pro fighter that worked out there, and him being from Jay, Oklahoma where my grandfather grew up we kind of hit it off, I was like 14-15 y.o. he helped me develop my left hook (I'm a southpaw) he was just a regular guy, that happened to be able to knock a guy's head clean off their body. Here is a bit of trivia you might not know. At 13 Tommy was competing, at the adult level, in tough man competitions and beating grown ass men. My personal feelings are that he had the absolute best left hook in the heavyweight division period full stop. It is just sad and tragic that he let the partying lifestyle kill his dreams.

Reznik did a great little tribute video called Tommy Morrison - The Rising Sun. The Grave shots are sad. Gone too soon, Duke. His life could be made into a Hollywood movie. Supposedly related to John Wayne, girls getting his number, two wives, steroid use (he wasn't the only one..) and was in a Hollywood picture.

As a teen Tommy was my favorite boxer next to Tyson..I can still remember watching the Mercer fight live and being like that's not supposed to happen ha

He was amazing. As good as anyone if he just put in the work and would have focused.
