This looks excellent. I've never really considered a Fuji but this one is convincing me. I've been using an S1H for a long time, I'd quite like this as a B-cam now.
Bought the XT4 four days before the XH2s dropped. The reviews were so good I wanted to send the XT4 back, but the price of the XH2S is 900.00 more 😢 2705.00 vs 1838.00 with taxes.
Well done Gordon, as usual. I don't want or need this lovely piece of kit, but it was fun seeing how it performs. BTW, keep an eye out for the possibility of US dollar price drops in Canon gear, since much of it is still made in Japan, and the yen has fallen about 40% against it in recent weeks. These currency fluctuations could get VERY interesting over the coming months if Canon decides to take advantage of them.
I'm a little bit unclear about the IS Mode. At 16:58 you stated: "…isn't available in open gate 6.2K, any high frame rate and ProRes mode". Did you mean all the IBIS mode are disabled or just the IBIS/OIS + DIS mode?
I wish they kept more of the manual controls that made Fujis so special for me. Also, imagine shooting anamorphic on that 3:2 open gate sensor. You'd get an absolute incredible horizontal resolution.
well done. do you think the extra half stop of ibis over the xt4 makes a difference especially for vlogging? how do you think they get that extra half stop?
Good video quality. This camera is going to compete with Canon R7. May I know if this camera got a sensor shield/cover to protect it from dust during lens change?
Kudos Gordon! Nice detailed review. I’m just thinking the GH6 open gate gives only about 4% more vertical resolution with about 7% less horizontal resolution. Neither seems particularly more useful to me in the scenario you outlined but I could be missing something.
In theory it should be detected and played back in HDR, but it can depend on what's playing it and what's displaying it, and if it was edited inbetween.
Hey gordon. I would love a video quality Comparison between the gh6 to the xh2s or other new cameras of a talking head. For some reason the gh6 talking Heads videos I see seems a bit soft compared to others new cameras. Thanks
Why is the high speed video at 1080p so bad? I've seen another video where it was claimed that the XT4 produced much better video quality at 1080 240fps.
Did they simply claim or show any evidence to back it up? Always go with reviews which actually show evidence. BTW, most high speed video reduces in quality the higher the frame rate goes.
great video, I am curious how jittery the video is due the the IBIS when panning while filming. Case scenarios I am thinking about are filming wildlife that happens to be moving, my XT2 jitters are really pronounced and I'm hoping this has been inmproved with the new cameras, or at least might be addressed in subsequent firmware updates. Thank you
In theory, it should be better than the XT2 but the problem with Fujifilm, is that their stabilization (and also AF) are firstly not great for video and also inconsistent between their own lenses. Let alone third party options. Having said that, IBIS in the XH2S is a huge help during framing for birding (in my experience with the 55-200). In your case use, how much of that performance is purely from the camera and not just the OIS, will be more evident by those who have tested both side by side which is honestly quite hard to do for wildlife. My recommendation would be to rent an XH2S and test it for yourself, if you have the opportunity to do so in your location.
Hi Gordon, thank you for your review. Did you try the camera on a gimbal? I could not connect it with my Weebill S. The camera only says there is a usb connection but doesn't allow me to focus and start/stop the recording as I could do with the XT4. Do you know what to do?
