I myself own a Fuji XH2s and I adapted the Sigma 18-35 f1.8 and the autofocus works flawlessly. Even with the AF settings out the box. I’d hate to have people get mislead into thinking the auto focus is terrible and think their are no good lens options. Working with a fringer adapter even my canon lenses work great with it. Great work but I’d hate to have ppl think it’s useless AF. My XH2S actually did better on a music video than my canon R6 with the 24-70 f2.8. I’ll post this videos soon. Otherwise keep up the great work 💪🏾

I think the XH2S is really for the true film maker / cinematographer. I’m talking about the sort of person that will forego autofocus to choose the BMPCC 6k over the Sony FX3/6 because they care a lot about colour science and even prefer manual focus. To such a person, the XH2S is a really great B camera because it brings quite usable autofocus to the table along with raw capabilities and colours that are pleasing and easy to work with.
So I see the the XH2S as a really great B cam to the BMPCC 6k. A BMPCC 6k owner can maintain their raw workflow while getting stellar dynamic range and rolling shutter, along with decent autofocus for UA-cam content creation needs. Autofocus doesn’t have to be Sony or Canon level to be decent / usable.
The XH2S as an OVERALL PACKAGE in terms of specs, is a FANTASTIC package. The XH2S is versatile enough to be used for anything and the same can’t be said for the Sony and Canon cameras in the same price range, even with their best in class autofocus.
    Autofocus is not everything.

I am just sharing my experiences and I have been transparent. I also pointed the viewers to two other videos about AF on Fuji cameras and lenses. I have used the Fuji 10-24, 16-55 and 18-55 on the XT4 and it felt very similar to how the XH2S performed. Again, just sharing my experiences, but go check out Joshua Martin's video. He puts the Viltrox 13 up against some native Fuji lenses.

    • @Josh_Sattin
      @Josh_Sattin  2 роки тому +2

Having used the XT4, I didn't see much of a difference with the autofocus on the X-H2S. I mentioned Philip's video as a reference to him testing out a lot of the Fuji lenses and which ones were better/worse for AF. Did you check out Joshua Martin's video that I referenced? I agree, Canon and Sony are much larger companies when it comes to photo/video, but for Fuji to be competitive with Canon and Sony then they need to be competitive with things like autofocus. And yes, the lenses that Fuji offers right now have something to do with the autofocus performance. This can't just be ignored because a company is smaller. When choosing a camera, you need to consider the entire ecosystem, which includes lenses and their AF performance. Joshua Martin does test out the Viltrox 13 against some native Fuij lenses. You should check out the video. I was also very transparent about how I tested this camera and gave references for things I didn't test as in depth. I am just sharing my experiences and hopefully they were helpful for you. Thanks for watching this video!

IMO Fuji has the best camera in terms of looks, I’ve been rigging up Fuji cameras for cinema use for a few years just because of the IQ, I just love how it renders footage.
Hopefully they keep improving the AF as the camera ages and they release more fast, video friendly lenses. Currently they officially recommend like 3 lenses for video in the XF line, 10-24, 18-55 and 50-140. They are gonna release the 18-120 but I know the fact that it being an F4 lens will put off a lot of people.
I ordered one since I use very bright lights at work and I usually stop down to 5.6-8. I’m really excited about the PZ and PF features of that lens.

Fujifilm really stood out with the X-T4, when the competition was the A7III, Canon R, and GH5. X-T4 had great specs and image for the price. But now, the competition is very good in the $2000 range. Sony A7IV & Canon R6/R7 have fantastic lens and AF. Panasonic S5 & Blackmagic 6K have superior video features. It seems XH-2S doesn’t have any stand-out features that make it stand above the others. Great video, Josh!

Idk man, XH2s has internal ProRes, more custom dials, better rolling shutter then Sony, no overheating like canon r6, 4k120 and better dynamic range in F Log2 then all aforementioned. Only thing I can see is the bmpcc6k being formidable but that battery life is horrible

I purchased the Viltrox 13mm about a month ago and I haven’t found it to be as reliable as my native Fujifilm lenses in video or photo with continuous autofocus tracking. I have the newer linear motor 18mm, 23mm, and 33mm. For me those Fujifilm lenses seem to perform more consistently with the X-H2S.

I agree Darion. I have the Viltrox 13, the New Fuji 23, and 33. And the Fuji lenses are substantially more reliable in focus on the XH2S. I had the XT4 and the autofocus on the XH2S is quite a bit better in my opinion. I have the Canon R7 as well, and I have been surprised at how often it flubs focus on faces. Frankly more than the new Fuji. For faces, the new Fuji is actually very reliable, especially on the Fuji lenses. However the inability to track objects, or touch track focus in video is a letdown on the XH2S. By the way Josh, your videos make me feel like you read my mind. You are always reviewing the thing I am most interested in. It’s pretty cool. Thx!

Josh I'd like to see a simple side by side, AF test between Sony and this camera. Wide open please. F2.8 on an ultrawide Apsc lens, there's barely any bokeh to judge AF performance.
Let's see how much ahead Sony AF is compared to the XH2S.
Only real AF test footage that I have seen was with Camera Consipracies where he compared it against the A7SIII wide open and it was damn damn close between the two.

I would love to do this, but unfortunately I no longer have the X-H2S. I thought about doing a whole video about AF tests, but I didn't think it was fair because I didn't have any native Fuji lenses. That's why I referred to those other two videos during this video. I had the XT3 and XT4, I was expecting much more from Fuji with this new line. Sony A7 IV is the sams price of this one, with more reliable autofocus, full frame, amazing low ligbt performance but no 4K 120. If you need 4K 120 you'll pay 1000 more for the A7S III and you can still take amazing pictures with it. Sorry but don't have the possibility of having a perfect autofocus is a deal breaker for me in 2022.

I sympathize about AF but not having running shutter is super expensive. If you need that, you are looking to compare to the A7Siii with lower resolution.
Also for 4K50/60 the A7iv crops to the same sensor size.
If you want higher resolution AND cheaper, you can have a look at the X-H2s. But obviously the Sony A7iv seems to be a really good camera, maybe a better choice for most (did not test that).
And yes, I had some annoyances with the AF on the X-H2s and I wonder if a Sony would have fixed that. (mostly with multiple people)

X-H2 has been out a while and autofocus is still not great, there is still no tracking video AF, only subject detection which falls apart as soon as lighting isn't perfect.
Even using the area autofocus, which can't track making it quite crippled, it still pulses constantly on anything except subject it recognises. This is not any better on the X-S20 unfortunately, looks like I will be sending mine back for a refund and getting the A6700 :( - it's a shame as other than autofocus and IBIS wobble, the X-S20 is such an awesome camera.
