    I’ll say this right here and I’m not kidding when I say this. In 14bit readout the camera turns into something absolutely incredible. I can’t describe it… it just looks like an image from a much much more expensive camera.

      F-log2 is truly something special. It's a definite notch above the original F-log or Eterna + DR400%. I have never felt the need to use F-log on my X-T3, but F-log2 has it's allure.

    • @adnan_velic
      @adnan_velic Рік тому +4

      @@BTMovieSecondChannel I own the xh2 and xh2s. For the xh2s the flog2 is fully utilized meaning it’s reaching that full 14+ stops of dynamic range because of the sensor properties. In the xh2 it’s really good but I can definitely tell you without a doubt the flog2 image produced in the xh2 is not as good as the xh2s. The xh2s looks more organic something you would see on a high end cinema camera where as the xh2 it’s more digital but still extremely good.

      @@adnan_velic From what I've seen online, yes, that's true! I own just the X-H2S and X-T3, so I can't compare, but I have always felt the footage from the X-H2S looked a little more special in F-log2.

    Something that doesn’t get enough attention is the battery grips for Fuji actually let you run three batteries total. Two in the extended and one in the original spot. I really wish Canon and Sony would get on board with this.

      @RiceCubeTech Рік тому

      @@TwoOneSe7enfujis batteries are a bit smaller so it’s easier to do this. Sonys batteries are pretty chonk. But beyond that, the dummy battery actually is what allows the battery grip to help with the overheating in 8K on the Sony a1. So I’d take that over an extra battery.

    • @TwoOneSe7en
      @TwoOneSe7en Рік тому

      @@RiceCubeTech Marginally smaller. I’ve had both systems. And while I would agree it COULD, in theory, help with heat… I found quite the contrary when using the battery grip with the A7IV. It didn’t help with overheating issues I was having. Not one bit.
      Also, with Fuji… you can run just the two batteries in the bottom with no third if heat is really a concern. So Fuji still wins IMO.

      I’m a Fuji shooter and i’m currently debating this right now. I love the Fuji for photo especially when i travel around, if i happen to meet people and take portraits of them, I could easily print them out directly to my instax printer. The reaction of the people I give them to, is priceless. The Sony is a neat run and gun, one man video shoot. It could use the Sony mic via the multi adapter shoe. Plus Catalyst Browse, albeit an extra step in the workflow and an additional mindset when framing, is quite magical. My issue with the FX30 is that I live in Japan at the moment and the japanese model only has Japanese language in the menu and no option to change it. My Japanese isn’t fluent enough to read everything.

    I dont think HDR is entirely done before AD conversion. Why do I think that? Because I was using an old version of Vegas pro when I bought it. I had to upgrade, because the software was able to preview the DR 100% footage, but it wasn't able to do it with DR 200% and DR 400%. If it's all done before the conversion and the codec plus resolution is the same, there is no reason this should happen. I think they're doing something after the conversion. Try Vegas Pro 13 and upload all 3 DR options and you'll se the difference. If someone can explain that and tell me if I'm missing something?

    I was wondering how this camera works with the atomos ninja v +, in the 6k mode do you get a full 6k hdmi output. I’m currently using a ninja v and it significantly looses resolution, I just want to use it as an external monitor and record internally but it’s almost unusable trying to manually focus with the low res output in the 6k mode. I would consider upgrading my ninja v if this camera paired better with the v+. I also wish Fuji could update the software to support the external recording better.

      @McSnapples 100% agree here. The specs may look similar on paper like the 4k120p but it’s not about that… the xh2s has a completely different sensor a technology which is far superior to the fx30 sensor. Also that 14bit readout is not a gimmick like when Sony says 15+ stops of dynamic range but actually it’s more like 13.5, now that’s a gimmick…. And even though Fuji has never had shutter angle… for X-T cameras at least had 1/48 and 1/120 shutter speeds for 24p and 60p. Those are gone now for some reason. They have the traditional 1/50 and 1/125. Not sure why this is. If they don’t implement shutter angle, I hope they bring the 180° equivalents back.

    • @coastmale
      @coastmale Рік тому +3

      they're not gone. I have the fuji xh2s and 1/48 exists for sure in movie mode. it only doesnt exist when you are using the flicker free shutter speed setting where it is set by default to 1/50.0 but you can finely adjust the shutter speed to match the flickering of your lights. its a great feature. the one caveat for me is the lack of the ability to shoot shutter speeds that are slower than the framerate in order to get that step printing effect. it only doesnt work on 6.2k 3:2. it works perfectly on the 16:9 and DCI options. You can use interval shooting to mitigate this and get an 8fps with a custom shutter speed which would really look like step printing because you can set the shutter speed to be 1/half the fps you choose. only downside is no audio. I am a narrative film maker ask me anything about the xh2s and i'll be sure to answer (Except for autofocus I do not use autofocus)

Man I really hoped Fuji was at least on par with DPAF from like a couple years ago. It’s hard to compete with DPAF II and Sonys AF. If Panasonic implements a good Phase Detect AF it might put a hurting on Fuji. Imagine the GH6 having good AF or if Panasonic ever did APSC or the next S1H having PD AF. It’s all they need. The people who have reviewed it seem to be more photography focused and don't make use of the par-focal powerzoom functionalities in the field. Xh2s vs Lumix s5, big doubt

      rolling shutter and dynamic range is better on the fuji xh2s in aps-c mode in addition to the much better recording options full sized hdmi, open gate recording and true 24fps. The only thing the s5 has that is better is the raw capabilities and dynamic range in full frame only and the waveforms and shutter angle and it is definitely better at low light. But if you want something that can give you a true 24 signal with great dynamic range and amazing rolling shutter the xh2s is the way to go. You know with the open gate recording and cropping into the 1.375 to one aspect ratio which is the Academy ratio you get a fov that is only 6% larger than the legendary Academy ratio on 35mm? great for indie filmmakers such as myself

    Not unless it can autofocus as well as Sony.

      @@TackJorrance The Fuji system is still a 'real' option. Just because the tracking isn't amazing doesn't mean you still can't get amazing images out of it. Plus the lenses are lightweight and a lot cheaper than the Sony/Canon equivalent. However it of course depends on the style of the content you're shooting whether or not you need af that you can just set and forget.

      @@TomWhitchurch I just don't see many use cases for a camera of this form factor to not greatly benefit from reliable autofocus... Sure, working on a set with a crew and a focus puller, you don't need autofocus but nobody is taking this camera to a film set with a dedicated focus puller. Cameras like this are clearly geared towards solo shooters or people that need to stay light and mobile -- autofocus is very helpful in both of those scenarios.

      @@TomWhitchurch I expect the hard-core cine crowd used to MF would be happy with it but anyone new getting into videography is going to expect better AF than what I saw in this review. Truthfully, video AF is still in it's infancy with all manufactures, though clearly some are better than others. I'll add that I just returned a Z9 -- stellar oversampled video IQ up to 60p (unfortunately fell apart a 120p) but the video AF was simply unreliable compared to Sony and Canon.

      @@TomWhitchurch The lenses are actually not lightweight relative to Sony. Not familiar with Canon's lineup, but most of the E-mount equivalents are of the same weight or less, often at a lower price. Fujifilm lenses are however sharper than most 3rd party and some first party lenses. There's no space or weight savings except for super telephoto zooms.
      The real advantage I see to use an XH2S is the 2 flavours of RAW video, and the great stills performance. It's pretty much a BMPCC6K that shoots great stills (although the BM quality is still nicer). I think what Fujifilm needs to do is simply copy the assist features that have been in the GH6 since forever. Even a 2017 GH5 has better assist features.

      @@garfieldirwin I would think anyone new who's getting this for things like digital marketing/social media would be better off with a FX30 or A7iv. But people getting this intending to move up the cine world would do their career more justice by learning manual focus. After all they may have to handle (cine) cameras that are not their own some day.

      You are spot on that those cameras aren't even close to the value of the Fuji.
