Don't get me wrong, I do enjoy the convenience of my homes heat, but from just using the fireplace & firepit outside, there is an obvious difference. There is definitely more comfort and coziness with wood-fire anything. :-) Plus, the crackling sound is peaceful.

$300 a cord where I live in Canada. Amazingly I live in the middle of the forest. People ripping off people. I'm 74 and can't go out and saw down dead trees myself. BTW, go to a hardware store and buy a propane tank with a torch nozzle. Turn the knob, click the button and you have instant fire. No need for paper or kindling but a fire starter is necessary so that it burns long enough to catch the logs. I use the paper cup kind with the wax like you have. It only takes a second to light the fire starter with the blow torch and then all you have to do is turn the blow torch off, close the stove door and enjoy the fire. One hand held tank will last about 5 years. Maybe more because my house is wood only heat and we get upwards to 40 below so our stove runs 24 hours a day in our very long winters....about 8 months. You only have to replace the empty propane bottle. The nozzle is reusable. I would really hate a fire that I could not regulate. Because we sometimes have to run the wood stove on high heat, we have clearance of 18 inches all around.

Do you have access to wooden pallets? It's not much work to take them apart and many are made of oak. About half the wood I burn is pallets and that really helps me streeeeeeetch out a cord of log wood.

@@barnabyaprobert5159 pallets easy to take apart? Not in my experiences..they are absolutely aggravation personified!! I'd sure hate to know I had to tear apart enough of them to fulfill half of my annual wood consuption!!

@@kkkay7336 I use a demolition bar (Home Depot about $30). It's about a yard long so you get plenty of leverage. And, since it's for firewood it doesn't matter if there are cracks or rough ends. I can take apart a standard pallet in about a minute. Remove nails from the boards (easy) and the rails (admittedly a bit more difficult). Then saw them into 2-3 stove length pieces out of each board and 3 pieces out of each "rail".

I think many times people don't really watch the video. They just make comments based on the title and thumbnail, or what they THINK I'm going to say! What really irritates me is when they ask a question that I had SPECIFICALLY answered in the video! I just want to ask, "Did you watch the video?! Go watch the video first!" But it happens all the time, and after 6 years as a creator, I've just learned to live with it and ignore it! And either just delete the comment (If its nasty), or respond kindly anyway.

Looks Great. I agree, for peace of mind a wall shield behind the stove would be functional and look good as well.
I heated my home of 2800 square. ft. with wood for years. Cold long winters here in northern Ontario, Canada and
went through about 4 bush cords of seasoned wood per winter.
The best tip, clean out the stove regularly and if your local Lowe's sells it, buy a couple boxes of Fatwood. 1 small piece will
start a fire every time, much better than kindling, I always have 2 pieces about 3 inches in length in my pack when I go in the bush.

As a heat shield, I use a piece of 3'X5'X1/4" Hardibacker cement board, stood upwards, leaned sightly against the wall. It has 2 semicircular cutouts at the bottom (about half of a six inch circle), to let air rise behind the panel and a piece of wood that is 2" long by 3/4"X3/4", (glued on), behind the top, standing the top slightly off the wall, to allow air to convect from the bottom up through the top, flowing in back of the panel to cool it. The wall stays totally cool. If you need a shield, this is cheap, it works and it can be simply removed for the summer. You can even paint it the same color as your wall. It's nice to know the wall will stay cool while you're sleeping!

We grew up in a home with a wood stove, my mom and dad always had one ( a much older model than what you have of course ) and they always had a shield behind to protect the walls, so when I seen that you hadn't installed one I must admit I was a bit concerned but I felt you knew what you were doing and read all the instructions etc...I'm happy to hear you will be installing one however, and yes it definitely gives an old worry wart like me piece of mind knowing you're taking extra precautions. When we built this house I wanted a wood fireplace but couldn't talk my husband into it, just the smell alone is worth it to me, but he didn't like the thought of bringing in bugs hiding in a woodpile. ( I've had a wood fireplace in a previous home and that was never an issue for me , I think he has a phobia about bugs? ) lol Anyway I love your wood stove and it looks like Leo does too! Nothing like a toasty fire on a cold winter's night I say.

It is not easy to have a woodstove though : you need to bring wood in all the time, you need to watch for the fire, control it and not to mention ashes and cleaning them every other day. But its warmth cannot be compared to any other ! The smell of the first firing will go away pretty quickly. Don't you worry about it. You may have the same smell each winter when you first put it in use again. Enjoy the fireplace !

Loved Elizabeth’s piano playing as you put the wood in the stove. Seeing Leo enjoy the warmth was a treat. I love cats.

We love our wood stove. Bought our new one in 16 they keep on improving them all the time. Here in NM Albuquerque we don't use ours all the time, it's just not cold enough. Enjoyed watching you put it in though. Have a cozy winter. Oh by the way we did use the stove with our 6to10 inches of snow that fell on us yesterday and still going today. LOL

I've left u guys for quite some time. Tea with Jesus by Tiny House Preppers is awesome! I remember 2 other stoves that were so cute, but not very efficient I suppose...I'd love to live FREE like you guys! I'm stuck in an institution for people with brain injuries from car accidents...its either here, or homeless, so God does take care of ALL my NEEDZ! I do have a nice apartment, my dogs, and FREE bills & food! I'm extremely grateful for it, but it gets REALLY REALLY sucky when a person's individual rights get sheetstomped daily!!! To have just a simple lil life outside of here would be a dream come true, and an answered prayer. I suppose God puts us where He needs us to be....there are so many here that NEVER have even a chance at FREEDOM and peace away from institutional living...its NOT nice! There's very warped, ungodly employees around here that love to go outta their way to create controversy when it's NOT warranted! They restrict us from the "public", even make fun of us unlucky folks, and punish us like children for ridiculous things. Thanx for keepin my dreams alive!!! I live FREE monetarily, but NOT FREE to just be me and simply live...I have FAITH God will get me outta here to a simple, FREE life, full of love, and simplicity one day....God bless you all!

I feel for you Jamie. I've felt it recuperating from a knee replacement. I'm going to pray for your healing. Jesus can! When I saw staff treat people badly it made me sick and very very sad. There's hope in this life, with Jesus. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Say psalm 91 daily. And last of all eat something good for you daily. It works.

It's difficult to witness in the midst of your situation i know. Try. I can only try. Where are you from?
I was just at a Bible study last night where they almost glamorized poverty. I think it's prideful of them to say how much money they gave away and they still live comfortably.

Radiant heat from a coal or woodstove heats the house and furniture keeping the warmth steady. Hot Air will fluctuate in temperature much more. The invention of the thermostat is man's biggest mistake. Much better to have a steady BTU output then switching the heat on and off all the time.

We have had wood heat in the past when we lived in the country and were raising iur boys. There is nothing like wood heat in my opinion for warmth. and comfort! I am sure like Leo Pops will enjoy the nice warm heat. The instillation looks nice and another job behind you. Always so much to do at this time of year! It looks like you will be in good shape for the winter season. My best to you and yours. Have a blessed day and winter in your new home! 🐺🐺🐺🐺🙏🙏🙏🙏🕊🕊🕊🕊👍👍👍👍

Good job, I have had my large Masport wood stove for 30 years, when it is cold, rainy and miserable outside the wood fire is comfort, homely and warm, children loved drying themselves after bath time in front of it. Enjoy your fire this winter. You won't want to go outside to collect the wood lol.

We had a Two story ten room home in Upstate N.Y. - We also had wood stove like that in one of our familt rooms.- loved it - We Also had a Wood/ Kerosene Furnace down cellar. Nothing more warming than wood heat.. Never used the Kerosene with the furnace other than to start the wood at the beginning of the heating season. Or to keep it tested throughout the season.. Living in Oklahoma now, and really miss the little wood stove, thinking about getting another one here !
    Happy Heating !

That Aspen is a great little stove. I only ever sold and installed one of them but the girl absolutely loved it. Most of ours were to heat 1500-2000 sg feet. You have an amazing little stove there that will give you many years of worry free service. The stove will smell for a few hours but you will soon have the smell gone ! Make sure to use a stove top thermometer that way you know how the stove is operating and not producing creosote ! The one thing I always loved about the Vermont Casting units was the bi metallic damper.
