    GEAR USED: Starlo used two baitcaster outfits in this episode. The first was a Shimano Metanium HG baitcaster reel spooled with 15 pound Kairiki braid and mounted on a Shimano T-Curve 661 Baitcast Extra Light rod. The second was a Shimano SLX XT baitcaster reel spooled with 20 pound Kairiki braid on a T-Curve Premium 681 Baitcast rod. He used 16 and 20 pound Ocea FC leaders, a 1/4 ounce Hell Yeah bladed jig, and a River2Sea Whopper Plopper 90 surface lure. These deadly topwater lures can be a bit hard to track down in Australia, but we found some on line at Amazon Australia via this link: lia via this link: amzn.to/40I6466

    Amazing session Starlo despite the adversity, beautiful stretch of river. Well done. Going to head out there myself soon.
    Need a retractable rudder on the yak! Easy to get and install aftermarket thankfully.

    Brilliant video, as you know I love my Bass fishing on the Nepean and nothing beats a surface bite with a big Bass. Tight lines Steve. 🎣

    I can attest to whopper ploppers working just as well on Jack and Barra up in the far north 👍

    Great video Starlo. I’ll be heading out to chase my first bass next week. Do you use barbless hooks for bass?

    • @StarloGetsReel
      @StarloGetsReel  2 дні тому +1

      @@MatMcLachlanHistory no I don’t usually worry. The barbs on modern hooks are tiny anyway.

      @StarloGetsReel I think Morgan Hartney mentioned on one of his shows that after losing a decent fish there should be a 50m exclusion zone by all other fishermen to allow self reflection and for temperatures to cool 🤣🤣🤣

    Been a slow start for me as well in the hunter river system.
    Why did shimano discontinue the Tcurve premiums, I love the ones I have but I missed out on a couple of the spin rods.

      Yes, it has been a strange start to the season. Revving up now though. I miss the Tcurve Premiums too, but the newest Tcurves are pretty sweet.

    Starlo - don’t twitch your surface lures, that’s how you miss them. Just a straight retrieve and trust that they can’t help themselves, which in my experience is the case - and you get waaay more hook-ups.

    • @StarloGetsReel
      @StarloGetsReel  6 днів тому +6

      Fair point, but I find I get a LOT more interest (especially early in the season) if the retrieve has lots of variation: stops and starts, pauses, twitches, etc). I'll happily take a few misses in return for the dramatically increased strike rate. Later in the season as the water warms, a straight retrieve can work well, but I still reckon a stop/start one is better, as is staying in the strike zone longer. But each to their own. There's more than one ay to catch a bass. ;)

      @@StarloGetsReel not having a go at you Steve, and not claiming you do of course. My point to the other poster is that we all have varying and valid experiences, and one is well in their right to share those - which are/were in good spirit. Like you said, more than one way to skin a cat, and if people don’t appreciate some random passing their observations to a stalwart, then they’re missing out.
