Adi Soon for aBlogtoWatch interviews Jamie Hardes, a watchmaker at an important Rolex watch service center in London, England. - Наука та технологія
I have a Rolex from 1978 it’s never been in service at all but works like new
Really? Keeps time and all?
I have just had my 50 yr.old Rolex restored. I am just waiting for lock down to end so that I can pick it up from the Rolex shop. Can't wait. It is a wonderful timepiece.
I THINK MECHANICAL WATCHES ARE A PIECE OF ART THAT ONLY PEOPLE THAT KNOWS ABOUT WATCHES CAN AGREE WITH THIS
There are several degrees of complexity in Rolex movements - more complex movements (chronographs for example) are prone to functioning problems, when less simple one (without date) doesn’t require much attention. If you ask what is the time period you are expected to service the watch, the right answer is that it depends on the type of Rolex you have.
Not just that, depends on how you treat your watch more importantly. The climate, elements, any substances that go on it. Everything has an effect.
I admire this watchmaker, a true dedicated proffesional.
Very nice to be taken into the service room and see how things goes with our watches. Jimmy and sounds as calm and cool as a watchmaker should be. The only thing that puts me on my nerve is the assembly process that looks like being done in a less than an enclosed environment where dust particles can be also assembled with the watch. I thought this assembly phase is done in a senate room, with gloves, head cover...
I love my Submariner 1680, -1977
You can see that this watchmaker is passionate about what he does and about Rolex. Now you know why Rolex watches have been, are now, and will be considered the best in the world.
Could you please drop in the name and contact info for this service center. Thank you
10 years service now!
Yes, but Rolex refuse service on +30 year old watches
Rolex is the best. I treasure my datejust. This was a pleasure to watch, thank you.
Now I love my vintage djs even more
Great video. Thanks. I find the inner workings of mechanical watches to be fascinating.
Where can I get those exploded drawing posters of the rolexs shown in the background? Great video!
Marc Taylor I want one too
i think they changed the service time to 10 years now
Only for newer models
This is not the case for older models or watch purchased before 2016
Their hype is so big now they don’t have to time to take in a watch for service specially when they’re trying to manufacture new ones, on top of that a new Rolex can run 10-15 years without a service at first they recommended that of course for more income, but as long as your not mistreating your watch any Rolex is a work horse there’s no need to even thing of service for along time, specially with these new models
Excellent video this guy knows his stuff
Have just been told by an authorised Rolex outlet and repair outlet that if I give them ny watch for a service & repair (it has stopped) that they will also repair my strap or worse still replace it with a non sprung new bracelet. I told them I want the bracelet left alone but was told that this was not an option or sending the watch without the strap would not be accepted. Thas another £700 ish that I would have to pay regardless that I want to keep my original bracelet as it is fine and with no problems. It had a couple of springs removed many years ago and fits so perfectly on my wrist. Is this really the case?
Does nt show in the video but the building he's sat in cost £1.15 bn .Apartments at One Hyde Park start at £20m.
I'm guessing servicing Rolex brings em in a few quid ,
This was great, thank you for the info
I have 2 breitlings both which have broken within 6 months of ownership def buying a Rolex next
Grey market issues 😂
@@NISHUGARVU no all from Breitling boutique
@@elmin2323 damn
2 breitling = 1 IWC OR ROLEX OR OMEGA OR A LANGE & SHÖNE
does Rolex replace bracelet pins?
any legit suggestions - from any one - on how to 'tighten' a clasp on the band? it's the snap on type, not the 2 step lock down version, so to speak. new pins? or a slight bending of the corner to make it 'bite'? Thanks in advance.
Excellent Interview and how Rolex does it better than a lot of other High End watch brands!
I could definitely think of worse jobs to have!..and on Hyde park too.. Nice :)
Very interesting too see, thank you
How much ?
Which model is it in the video?
COOL! You get Ade Edmonson to service your watch!
What if you don't want your watch polished? Do you have a say?
I asked the Rolex service centre not to polish mine, but they did anyway.
very informative, thanks!
Los Angeles CA what are you saying?
Cyrus Nada sorry not meant for you I accidentally placed it on your comment as a reply accidentally
I would hear his opinion about new Grand Seiko 9S movements.
Jimmy is a pro and thanks for the information.
Great video - so how much is that service cost?
think it is about 800 Euros
kunilingva for submariner, not daytona, seadweller and yacht...
no. The complete service is less then 550 euro. If some parts are damaged, then Rolex will charge more such as hands, rotor

Just took my Submariner in today and it cost me £600 for the service, major parts are extra, waiting time is 6 weeks
Great video. Fantastic to see what happens behind the scenes !

Lisa B Address in the booklet you got when you brought it , you did get one didn’t you ?
They have a Rolex service centre in Maidstone no need to go into london all that crap traffic
How do you know its keeping time if you dont have the hands and dial in it?
YUSHUA ELIAS Timegrapher.
Great video and information, really enjoyed it.
Thats hilarious, same building the Zippo tepair office.
Interesting video, really enjoyed it...
Big compliments to Jamie worked briefly in Omega service center all the best 🙏
This is so intricate and it's all deconstructed and assembled! Then its put in a vacuum!
thanks adi for your nice information video...
Service it EVERY YEAR so that I can make much money! New gaskets after 6/7 years, a service probably every 10 years or when things "go wrong". And after the service the customer is suprised that it looks like new; looks like new but it is heavily polished. ;-)
What’s the standard fee??
I paid $850 in 2020..
@@billballeza377 thanks. I was planning for 1000. So that’s the ballpark.
Is this a standard rolex service. Are you a rolex authorised repair/service center. Can I vring my watch to you for a service thanks
That is Rolex s own service centre at their British HQ in Knightsbridge London
Brilliant video!
Love this.
You missed a very important question... "What watch do you normally wear?"
I just sent my no date Submariner to the Rolex service centre in Toronto , this video gives me a good feeling that my Rolex will be cared for professionally !...six weeks . yikes , hope i can wait that long lol!
'know what *I* like about Rolex durability? I like how Rolex still uses a small diameter jeweled bushing as the pivot for the winding rotor. This way, when the watch takes a knock, the rotor scrapes against the bridge or case back.
Meanwhile, the rest of the automatic watchmaking world has moved on to ball bearing winding rotors.
A simple $100 Seiko 5 is a much more rugged watch than any Rolex with the 3x3x movement. (ex. Datejust, Submariner, Day-Date, Air-King, Oyster Perpetual Date, etc.) Of course Seiko 5s are not chronometer grade, nor do they have as long of a power reserve. But they're a lot more rugged. They run +30/-10 instead of +6/-4 and they run about 38 hours power reserve, instead of 50. Also, the Seiko 5s, due to their lower beat rate, only need service every 10-15 years.
The newer movements do have ball bearings on the rotors.
I love my submariner
Very interesting, thanks! Hope I never forget to screw down the crown on mine..!
On the official Rolex site they state that about every 10 years the watch has to be serviced.
What about saying ''scratches add character to the watch''? :)
never serviced my rolex is 25 years old and never skipped a beat i guess its just a money making thing to have it serviced every 3-5 years I have a friend that had his rolex serviced that was keeping accurate time and was told the entire movement has been damaged needs replacing gave him a huge bill with the servicing cost.
Exelent video my friend!
Not cheap but fantastic service. My sub looks brand new and it’s after its 2nd service.
Peter McDermont you had it polished too ?
Part of the London Rolex service centre work is a case and bracelet refurbish. There’s a video featuring the watchmaker explaining what a service includes.
Really cool video.
I’d rather just get a quartz watch and skip the whole servicing aspect of owning a mechanical piece. However, if i had money for a luxury timepiece and the desire to buy one, i would probably go with a Rolex
3 to 5 years is BS. A full service every 10 years is perfectly fine.
Think I trust him more than you
@@boardvision11 Rolex changed it on there website to every 10 years so he is correct.
as a watchmaker disagree totally you need to service to patrs cleaned oiled if dont belive be my guest pprotect your investmdent
Him: "We wouldn't need to send anything at all back to Switzerland."
Also Him "We would need to send the Deep Sea and Yact Master II back to Switzerland."
If the case and bracelet can go in the sea why does the movement rust ?
Superb,
Lorenzo D
The rolex sports series to service will cost $450-500 before parts..OMG..
c.m lam every 10 years now £40 -£60 a year nothing of you can afford one in the first place get one if you haven’t already you will never regret it
i love the ap watches
Ten years now due to upgraded lubricants.
So many stories of rolex changing out parts that imho dont need it. Daytona pushers, hands etc. They dont seem to have any idea that Rolexes in years to come loose value because someone changed parts, which you won't get back btw. Then dreadful polishing begins. "4000 metres or what ever it is"?? I love Rolex but there is a serious disconnect between head office and their customers. You cannot get from Rolex any history on your watch. Manufacturers like Omega, Patek, Longines provide this service.
Nice video " Sir i want to be a rolex watch maker like you. I have knowledge to that prof. I know to fix and polish any brand or kinds of time piece.
Any brands or kind of time piece ? Really :-)
I guess you worked a lot on Patek Philippe Grand Chime, Patek Skymoon,
A. Lange & Söhne Datograph Perpetual, Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Openwork, Richard Mille RM 50-03 watches lately.
Must be cool to live in your Fantasy World in the head of yours :-)

Dear Sir, I am interested in keeping in touch with you, you have a website, email or telephone that can inform me. Thank you in advance for your kindness. Fraternal hug!!
Throwing away used parts...? And not returning them to the customer. ? Super shady.
O.K loss of trust at the very start, Rolex recommend a Roley should be serviced every "TEN" years!! I have a 1987 GMT MASTER (Pepsi) Serviced every ten years and has never skipped a beat!! And "authorised" Rolex repairer's replace unnecessary parts and will not give you back the old parts??? Strange,,, no because ask any honest watchmaker and they will tell you hundreds of new "vintage" Rolexes hit the market every year!! Just got a "service " quote on my 1987 Rolex £4,061 and V A T to go on top.. ??? So I refused, just had the mechanism serviced, got the works checked out elsewhere and none absolutely none of the parts that were said to be "needing replacement" were worn damaged or in need of replacement!!
Proffesion is power! Five years age my father gave me a Rolex watch from buistore, and it is still ok and like new. I have to admit its proffesion is a myth!
nice
3-5 years? Rolex must be a lousy softy. Damn. 😞
Sb Sb 10 years now 👍
I will never swim with my $40.00 Rolex.
Rolex durability? That's why my ceramic sub is out for service just after 2 years of ownership, free spooling bezel. Broken from careful, normal use and out of warrantee. Not happy.
+snackajack117 yes 5 years!
They will go 25 years. Lol
Sve je u redu, ali nemaš one gumene naplatke za prste da ne mastiš sat.

If he is an "Authorized" Rolex Service & Repair Center why is he wearing a Rolex Laboratory coat? Is he a true Rolex employee?
but very difficult to find a phone number or email for!
How do I know they don’t put Fake parts in my Rolex !? 🤔😅
Go to a Rolex authorized dealer.
... and get robbed!
rolexes or any automatic movement watch r status symbols they r not practical or dependable movements quartz and digital r the most accurate if you r going to war or facing apocalyptic or intense social callapse a solar casio gshock will b my watch it keeps time month yr day and it can take anything.
+Tank gunna Sure they aren't as reliable but you have to think about the art that goes into a watch. Look at the precision and the accuracy you need to make the movement along with just servicing it and making sure it runs. Also think about photography versus painting. Photographs are more "accurate" as in are more realistic than paintings made by hand, yet paintings are still highly sought after and are undeniably more expensive as well. Same applies to watches. Food for thought.
+William Roff nice reply to a solid comment
I can do service for rolex 3135 also and it will be cheaper

This guy may as well be in a garage. I prefer that my $10K investment be restored in a sterile environment wearing Tyvek and a head covering. Details count. Only go RSC!
Watchmaker...certainly not .....watch servicer ...yep...
Just buy a new one..........
