The story, the uniqueness of the watch, the valuation, the fact he kept everything to do with the watch. but it is the owner, his blind belief when he bought it, for no other reason other than he was told it was a good purchase by his sergeant and then of course his reaction. His genuine disbelief at the value and his subtle body language that gives so much away. The valuer also deserves praise, it was well paced, knowledgeable and the delivery of the value was done very well. It is something the UK roadshow presenters do better than their US counterparts (for the most part). When values are high, it should be teased out a little. It makes for better viewing, but in this instance I liked it very much.

i think I have the original box for my casio somewhere..
zombienectar lol I've kept my Citizen box just in case 😉.
zombienectar 😂😂😂
you laugh but it's possible it could be worth something one day haha look at some Swatch models. not like i kept the papers but hahaha
I have a Casio I think will be valuable someday.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
He would have been satisfied with 1.500 USD. Imagine how many old people without knowledge of the value who´s been ripped off by greedy watch dealers!
Just like all those jewelery selling shows selling junk from asia worth nothing for thousands because poor old people suffering from dementia believe the greedy vultures on TV and think they buy some for their kids.
I read a story of a guy who's uncle sold a first generation all original Rolex Daytona for $6,000 to a pawn shop. In it's current condition the watch should have been worth $250,000-$300,000
Alexander Zamani Alaei just because they're old does not mean they've got dimensia.
The watch dealers make the market. Why are they greedy ? Is it because they make money ? Should they make a loss ? Most people are pretty fair.
Very true
yes what a nice old man and a genuine reaction
His reaction is very heartwarming. You can tell he is a good and kind person. I’m very happy for him!
Dude almost stroked out when he was told 65k to 75k
edgar V - stroked out lol, good on this gezzer though we’ll played nice we earner in his old age
BaHAHa
lmao
I was worried for him...
It's worth even more now 😂 probably in the 100 range easily
That moment when you see him realize he's no longer planning on passing it down to his children.
LMAO!
Hanah. I can hear the kids fighting over it already.
No way....he will pass it on.....I would sell it and travel the world before I got too old.....he seems like a simple man....the kids will get it and blow it on an SUV......
@@usafdirtboyz2797 if my grandfather left me a 75,000 dollar rolex, id be at a dodge dealership later that day picking the options for my new SRT Challenger.
Oh no he's passing down the check to chevrolet instead to pay for that corvette 😂😂
As an avid collector, anyone who knows anything about Rolex knows this is an immaculate find. Some models can go for up to 1 million.
Many others may come and go, but Rolex remains the constant.
This guys reaction is so genuine and heart warming. Well done to you sir!
Just to give perspective. $120 in 1960 is $973 today. That is one lucky old man.
Nicolas Restrepo I wish I could buy a Rolex for $973
right? i have saved up for 12 months.. still can't buy a gmt made today forget vintage gmt omg.. :D
that's funny! I just ran the CPI number for july 2018 and it's a skosh over a grand!
Just shows you how badly rolex rips people off these days. They used to be affordable. You can get a perfect fake for about $500 tho..
johnny we think you could open a huge can o' worms around "affordable". I can afford a shiny new subbie. I can afford the shiny Navitimer I got in March. Most of the people I know would have a hard time finding them "affordable". THAT said, why would a sane person spend even $100 on a fake? You can get a lot of nice watch for $500!
I just love this man! His genuine reaction. Him buying his father a gift worth more than his monthly salary. What a great gut!
He's a great man for sure, but how are you able to comment on his gut health? I've watched the video twice and have no indication as to how much fiber and probiotics he's getting...
Jimbo maybe hes one of those eye drs,,that can read your health by looking at your eyes.👀👀👀👀
And that's why u always listen to NCO's
Hooah!
Ha, ha best read of the day!
Ok now that’s funny.
...cause the dead ppl can´t talk.
You must be a baga.
I watch this video from time to time. I just love everything about it.
He can feel lucky if someone pays him USD 500, I wouldn't (bought better smartwatch for USD 28 from I kall W4 and a silver steel digital Casio for
USD 25,-, which is running since 14 years on the same 10 years battery).
Anyone else wanna just burst into tears, knowing this man deserves every penny and more?
This is easily my favorite roadshow moment. This man is genuinely shocked and humble. So happy for him
I was going to say, I don’t think I’ve seen someone more deserving of the good news on one of these shows.
💯- also check out the Navajo Ute blanket Antique Roadshow episode.
"If you would have told me $1500, I'd have been happy"
*and I, sir, am happy to give you $1500 for it*
Lmao
Its worth $65k why would he sell it to you for $1500? He said he would have been happy with that amount but he now knows its worth more
@@drewb1263 That's the joke.
@Drew Rogers are you a robot?
Drew Rogers you are an idiot
For the money he was making back then, it is even more incredible that he saved to buy his father a watch as well. I hope the gentleman auctioned his watch and got even more than what the appraiser said. You can tell this man has a good soul.

I love his reaction. So real
These videos and how the people talk and treat eachother always make me smile and really brighten my day. Thank you so much for having this channel for us all!
Wow. Why am I getting emotional over a Rolex this evening? 😭
He seems like such a nice man.
This is the most heartwarming video i have ever seen. I have no doubt, that this man is a good man.
Lol you cant judge how good a man is by how excited he gets over a lot of money. Judge him by his care of money. I'm no good person but I understand what a good person looks like.
I love when old people are so surprised and genuinely happy. It warms my heart.
May God Bless you sir! Not sure if you ‘re still with us, but May God Bless you and your family ! Thank you for your service! 🫡🇺🇸
I love seeing this happen, especially with the veteran's story of buying it overseas. He was brilliant to keep all of the paperwork and original parts. Good for him!!
Good investment: Assuming he owned it for 50 years and gets $75k, he made about a 13.75% annual return on that watch.
Yes but he was extremely lucky to buy a watch brand and model which appreciated in value. In general watches are a terrible investment.
@@SquaredCircle777 definitely not true. If you a classic swiss watch 2nd hand, it will perform similarly to a government bond. AP, Patek, and Rolex go up in value. They don't perform as well as art, but saying they are bad investments is easily proven wrong
@@gomasonpatriot1 But you cannot predict whether the watch brand will survive and whether the specific watch you purchased will be favored by collectors.
I'm kind of disappointed I was expecting at least 100,000
Not really. He spent a years salary on it back then. 60 75k is a years salary today.
What a humble old gentlemen he is.....the way he is astonished as he's getting told the amount,is pretty moving
This man is the definition of a humble man. It's also a joy to see how respectful the appraiser was.
Ps. I love the fact that he bought a watch for his father too. /bow

me too.
I guess you don't become a connoisseur without an appreciation for what's genuine and of great quality.

Pays off when you do something for your parents... this great man bought his father a much better Rolex model than the one he bought for himself.
He deserves it! Great man! Love!
No he didn't
Did something for his parents and his country. Bless this mans soul
That was his watch the one for his dad wasn’t as special
He said his dad’s had Gold inlaid . Price being less or not I bet he bought him the prettier, or special watch.
Pro Tip: listen to your Sergeant, folks.
FINALLY! Somebody that's not a moron and can actually spell sergeant correctly!! I was pulling my hair out at all the degenerates saying stuff about his "sargent".
@@cfltitan Well they all thought his last name was Shriver.

I almost cried when i saw the face that man made when he was told the price, Im very happy for him.
I almost cried watching this man's reaction, it was so cool to see all that original paperwork.
I come back to this video every single time I need a boost in my life. such a good video to watch.
I've watched this one and the other vet's Daytona video so many times. It's always awesome to see kind down to earth veterans find out about their cherished item value
Your dedication to our country has blessed you! Thank you for your service!
Very moving to see an honorable and humble American veteran get such great news that was a result of his detailed and thorough care of that fine timepiece.
It warms my heart to see old people happy like this.
Videos like this makes me feel like crying when I look at my account balance 😢
With due respect, I feel insulted by your comment, my comment wasn’t intended to be a joke 😠
I will only accept your apology under the condition that you will introduce me to him and I too will start making profit
He is a gentleman! A pure at heart person!! His reaction to the price of the watch was emotional to say the least!!!
"If you told me it was 1500 i would be happy". Old folks are so content. Satisfied. Happy with what they have. My generation needs to learn.
Gamespot: we’ll give you $25 in store credit
Gamespot offered me that for 6-8 games, I declined. I walked out of store and sold 4 games for 20 bucks to someone about to wall in. I broke the rest of them in half and threw them away.

That’s how some people think but that’s not how this man thinks. He would give his children anything because he loves them and they are far more precious to him than any GMT master.

What a humble man . I am so happy for him . Not many ordinary things bought in 1960 appreciate in value like that (maybe houses of course )
Love coming back to this video, always puts a smile on my face
What an open and honest man. Thank you for your service Sir.
$120 in 1960 after inflation is around $1,000.00 now.
At auction there’s a potential of around $60-70k ... not to shabby.
AS10 how do you work out inflation
tyvek05 you may be right, I got my answer through google.. but either way the gentleman didn’t do to bad
If it was a months Army salary to buy at $120, then accounting for inflation, at $70,000 it works out about 10-15 times a months salary now. Edit Which confirms tyvek05 estimation of $7,500 is the right ballpark.
@@DiscoFang To add to that, wages have not been increasing as much as prices have gone up, so in the 10-15 range it is probably much closer to 10. Which again means $7500 is probably close.
*too
A fantastic watch and the guys reaction when he learned its value today was superb.
What a sweet old man. I'm happy for him.
I love the Rolex stories they do because its always someone who took care of the watch, and now it will help take care of them if they so choose.
The watch owner was utterly stunned at the valuation of his prized purchase!
Without doubt, his Sgt. gave him genuinely good advice when he said to buy a Rolex before going home!
The Valuer was truly expert in his knowledge of the history and value of this watch, and he certainly gave the watch owner a surprise!
I'm so pleased this watch was worth so much and to see the guys honest surprise is a joy. He's extremely down to earth, decent and humble. God bless him. 👍
Love this show and especially items and reactions like this. Happy for the old man!
