@@KyleAxington I actually did have a vine question - what happens if wall over roof? I assume it would still grow over that gap given everything else you tested
Thanks for the info! My sister and I love playing this game together and she's into all the planting stuff, we didn't even know red vines existed. How cool.
Loved the video, but feel you missed out on a Dr Seuss riff reference! You were 90% there with the "Oh the places you'll grow" ivy poem! Edited to add: I like you fellow Viking. You're informative and no nonsense and i don't have to see your face so just wanted you to know you are your thumbnail to me: noble, wise, benevolent. Trustworthy beard, years of experience, exists for the good of his people. Skal!
There may be those out there who would say that you have way too much time on your hands. Personally though I would like to say that not only was this video highly informative and very well thought through, it was so therapeutic that for 7 and a half minutes my troubles were washed away listening to your completely untroubled voice. So much so that I will be watching this video again and again whilst sitting crosslegged on a high mountain in the nude and smoking Peruvian dreamwood to the sound of your voice whilst taking in the delightful marvels of your Valhallan gardens of bliss. You sir are a hidden treasure. Please give us more of this. I have subscribed and expect to see the hanging gardens of Babylo errr Valheim next time! 😁
Thank you so much for this video! I've been a bit reluctant to use the new vines, but learning so much about it definitely has me thinking hard about what sort of build I can do next :) Knowing that i can have my usual rooves (that stick out 1m past the walls of a house) as long as I get them started first helps SO MUCH. Just to check - do they both grow in the swamp biome? I've been wanting to live a bogwitch life since before the bogwitch update came out, and this might be the final piece to the puzzle I've been missing :)
"More than you ever wanted to-" Stop right there. You underestimate me. Lol I haven't actually played this new update so I learned things immediately. Also loved your builds at the end. I haven't touched the game since my buddies & I beat Ashlands but now I'm inspired to jump back in and build some beautiful viney gazebos like you have.
Awesome video Kyle :) Would you have any interest in doing an interview on the JP Valheim channel? I'd love to hear more about your journey and what your doing on UA-cam now with Valheim :)
Thank you JP! I'm open to doing an interview. I don't have links to social media, but I'm also a member of Splash & Crumbs discord so feel free to find my discord profile there if you want to send a message!
The Plant Everything Mod is a better way of placing vines where you want them, but thankyou for the info on the vines as the ashlands vines seem more integral to progression down the line.
Please cover the problem with stone walls decorated with wooden beams. Ivy wont spread itself further if its clinging on a stone block or greystone block with beams
Did you test anything about hanging vines? If you destroyed a doorways worth of walls in your first example, will the vines attached to those sections die off?
@ I’ll have to test it out. Thank you for putting in so much work doing these tests! I have 60 vine seeds just sitting in a chest right now and didn’t even know where to start.
@@KyleAxington It looks like the dominant mechanic at play is the bridging of gaps need to be < 3m for the vines to remain. A double-door doesn't work and all the vines end up breaking. A single 2mx2m panel will be bridged without issue, and a 2mx4m can be bridged, depending on the orientation of the vines that span the space. ua-cam.com/video/RoMn3PFtQHY/v-deo.html
I've been having trouble w/the vines a lot, specifically when growing them on the ashwood decorative wall, they constantly break, and have to regrow, and it's really annoying.
A question for you, tho first, amazing guide! You seem to just plant the vine, and the back is ALWAYS where the wall is. On our server, they do not do that, they SEEM to grow facing random directions. Do plants have to be planted facing a certain way? Or, have our admins changed something to make them random?! It means it's so hard to grow them onto existing walls. thx
@@KyleAxington Appreciate your reply - am now going to try on a solo server to test mods - so far snap point made easy, gizmo and comfy massfarming do not do it - but I have a very small selection of mods on my little test world, and they still 'pop' facing away in RNG style...maybe i should go vanilla and test it.. oh and if i never said, great great vid mate :) It's the one that got me questioning our setup! I am building an 8 sided tower with vines on each side - do you know how hard that is with RNG berry pops!! hahahahah
I feel the frustration! Sometimes mods can be nice to have, but they can have undesirable effects too. I did have a vine attach to a wall at a 90 degree angle, which I found later that it attached to a wall that was inside the structure, so that may be something to check for too.
I did find the mod that affects vineberries. It's one developed in house by an admin so will not relase details just yet, but once it's fixed I shall share the info :) Not am working on berry bush max height lol
Maybe they are too close to a wall, they need about 1 meter of space. Also if there are more than one structure it can attach to they can get "confused".
bro this is so in depth
i never will have any vine questions again
Thank you for watching!
@@KyleAxington I actually did have a vine question - what happens if wall over roof? I assume it would still grow over that gap given everything else you tested
I didn't think to test that, I would think vertical gaps behave like horizontal gaps.
This was so informative! Thank you, I can’t wait to plant vines now 😄
You're welcome, I'm glad you liked it!
Thank you Kyle, this video was much needed
Your welcome!
Oh man, thank you soo much for sharing that information. It must have taken you a while to figure all that out! Thumbs up and thanks again!

Thx so much for taking the time to test all of the possabilities Kyle. Some of those where real aha moments for me. Great stuff
Thank you Wadel!
I really needed to know how vines behave, thank you very much!
Happy to help!
Thanks man, I was trying to grow some vines on my base yesterday and gave up because I have eaves. That's a cool tip with the roof replace afterwards.
Thank you, I'm glad this helped!
Wow! That's pretty interesting. Thanks for sharing all those experimental findings. Keep up the great work. ❤❤❤

So much accuracy! Thank you for the work mister!

Very thorough and helpful. Interested in seeing what the architect community does with them.
Thank you! I'm also looking forward to see what people do with them!
This is great to know. I've been wondering about some of these questions. Thanks for all the great information.
You're welcome Kongveal!
Thanks! I've been hoping there were vines for decorations!
Thank you for watching!
simple and Educational(in terms of in game building/farming), nice!
Thank you!
Thanks for the very helpful and clear video. Lovely stuff these pretty vines!!

This was super informative and in depth. You answered questions I wouldn't have even thought to ask! This earned an instant sub from me!
Thank you very much!
Thorough and informative! Thank you for this!

Great video. Thanks for the information
Thanks, and you're welcome!
Nicely jobbed with the science 😊 great info for these ima link peeps asking about this to your vid now 😁
Thank you Canorous!
Best tutorial about vines 👏
Thank you!
Mate, great video, so informative
Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Appreciate it! Very thorough
Thank you!
Thanks for sharing your impressive knowledge in the vine arts🍻
You're welcome Jarlaxle!
this is so informative, thanks! Also iirc shield generator will allow you to grow things on mountain so prolly can try that
Thanks! I'll have to try that!
Thanks!

Thank you Mare!
Nice video! 🤘

Also that design with the Abomination Trophies is epic!
Thank you!
You can tho under the shield
Any observations on getting the berries themselves to grow more/more often in all your testing? NBD if you Don't have any, thanks for the vid!
Sorry, I wish I know how to get them to grow more berries. Thank you for watching!
Thanks
You're welcome!
Great job. Excellent video. Subbed :D :D
Thank you very much!
Super helpful~
Thank you!
Worth a Sub! Thanks
Thank you!
Great video, but do they grow on stone pillars in plains, and on charred fortress walls?
Thank you! I don't know if they will, I only tested building pieces.
Is there a way to attach them to the walls of charred fortresses you take over?
I didn't test that. I would think they would grow on the inside, but I wouldn't think they would grow over the spikes on the outside.
Please cover the problem with stone walls decorated with wooden beams. Ivy wont spread itself further if its clinging on a stone block or greystone block with beams
I'll have to test test that. Thanks for watching!
@KyleAxington Ur welcome and I'm the one needed to thank you for effort making the video
Thank you dude :)
You're welcome!
Did you test growing on Maypoles ?
No I didn't think to.
Did you test anything about hanging vines? If you destroyed a doorways worth of walls in your first example, will the vines attached to those sections die off?
I do not know, I didn't think to test for that. I would think they would stay, as they do span gaps up to 3 mters.
@ I’ll have to test it out. Thank you for putting in so much work doing these tests! I have 60 vine seeds just sitting in a chest right now and didn’t even know where to start.

I believe you can grow it in the ashlands with a shield. Maybe tbe same is true for moutains with should or heat? but thats speculative
I'm definitely going to try that, didn't think of using a shield.
thank you
You're welcome!
I've been having trouble w/the vines a lot, specifically when growing them on the ashwood decorative wall, they constantly break, and have to regrow, and it's really annoying.
I've had them grow on them before, I have no idea why that would happen.
Thank you!! I was struggling a little with the mechanics. They don't really spell it out.
You're welcome! And no they don't!

Thank you! That sounds odd, every one I planted attached to the nearest wall. Could be a mod bugging them out?
@@KyleAxington Thanks mate, yeah - that's what it looks like :( Sadly the server uses a huge load of mods

Vines need a minimum of 2.5m space between plants, and will climb nearly any vertical surface, this includes torches and armor stands.
I didn't try growing vines on those, good to know!
Will smoke go through the vines?
It should, if players can pass through them smoke should.
Vine berries will grow in the ashlands, they just require being under a shield.
I'll have to try growing under a shield sometime.
for me the vines never grow properly.. always are somehow rotated and then die
Maybe they are too close to a wall, they need about 1 meter of space. Also if there are more than one structure it can attach to they can get "confused".
Then a troll wanders through and destroys all my progress 😭😭
Yep, trolls are awesome like that!
...sub is out!
Thanks!
WHAT HAT IS THAT?!
It's the new harvester hat, sold at Hildir.
