You can remove the tab on the inside fender well and go up and over the frame and out the left fender well. Saves a lot of work and time... tight fit but will work... just did mine that way.
The smaller clip on post is the S Terminal that receives 12V to the solenoid when you turn the key to run, It is not a ground. The starter is grounded to the engine.
We just had one of those in the shop. You can get away with removing only 4 bolts from the front of the half shaft, and moving the shaft to the right of the car. It's tight in there, but you can wiggle the starter out.
I tried that once and fought with it for hours and was like "starter works so F it" and put it all back together. (i didn't have a starter on hand either but i figured I would take it out to look at it). I could not make it happen at least laying on the ground, pulling the half shaft isn't hard and gives more room, the tricky part is attaching the cables, be nice if they were another foot long so you could pull them out and replace with ease.
The cross beam does NOT have to come out. The shaft makes it MUCH more easy, but just remove bolts and move it aside. That and the front skid plate of course. Getting the cables off is a blind adventure, but not too hard. Just did one in less than half an hour (granted, I have a lift)
Yup, I learned that with Autozone parts you might not even get 3 months out of something, yeah it's covered under warranty but you got to do the work again and who wants to do that. If you are saving on labor cost might as well buy something that will work for a long time.
i have same jeep, dealer has failed to diagnose the issue, so i asked them to install a new starter, hopefully it takes care of issue. jeep has left me stranded 6 times.
lol ya easier harder 4me to get clip back in...I couldnt reach up so I had to use wheel well to tighten starter nut...hours later shes running now put shaft in was hella hard to get out I couldnt really reach top well but reverse engineering so helpful ...again thanx for a intellectually helpful video

Good advice, avoid the cheapo ones they only last 6 months

My current problem ackkk did it crank? Mine cranks then dies
Thanks
A 5/8 is a 16mm same as a 3/4 is a 19 or 7/16 an 11. thats why your sets are missing the sizes that cross over
hello, have you had any issues since changing the starter?
No I had no issues and it had a strong start every time. I don't own the Jeep though anymore.
Meeker Extreme thanks
Love it when they don’t show the labor 🤣
It's pretty boring to watch, and it wasn't any fun. Some say you can wiggle it out, I couldn't so I took the longer but what I found easier way.
It’s pretty self explanatory you’re gonna have to wiggle it out not everyone will get it out the same way
gr8 vid thnx

Sure be nice if they gave you another foot of cable.
Oya that be cake...
try showing the actual process of removal and installation.
1st how the hell did you cables off starter there no slack no way to reach from under neath even with shaft n cross beam out?????????
Reach up blind and use a 13mm socket to take the post nut off, it was a pain in the butt for sure
The other wire slides on, small screw driver and pry it off, again blind. Yeah they could have given a foot of wire.
Oh yeah wait till you have to put the other back on blind, actually I found that to be quick and easier then removing.
Ya i got it i took plastic tire shroud off to reach over on starter thnx again very helpful
Not very useful. Better to show how it actually goes in and out of place. Also, how to access the wires.
Commenting on old videos isn't too helpful either.
not a ground..it's remote start...and it's a bitch...
Fender is way easier dont even bother doing it this way
I found the fender WAY harder then this way actually. To each their own.
