To this day, I still think the most immersive control scheme for an FPS is the Wiimote and Nunchuck combo. I just wish we had more serious attempts at using it. Metroid Prime 3 showed how great aiming with the Wiimote is, and there were a few other games doing it well too - the Goldeneye remake and the Conduit comes to mind. That does not mean every game implemented it well however. I do think that the game needs to be designed around Wiimote aiming. And since it was a very different way to play, only doable on the Wii, there were no standard for how the controls should be done. Also, I imagine it wasn't great for people with disabilities...
Yeah, I played and beat RE4 for the first time, but the only thing I unequivocally liked about the game was the Wii's buttery smooth control scheme. I think one issue about arguing for immersion though comes from a split I've noticed, where I think there may be 2 definitions of immersion. The first is more standard, where you are lost in or forget that you're playing a game, while the second is trickier to separate from being gimmicky, as it's one that does the reverse in bringing the game to you. A lot of people who support definition 1 rail hard against definition 2 as though their definition is the only one (ex. ZP Yahtzee's thoughts on motion controls, as recent as his thoughts on Astro Bot's Dualsense feature microphone integration).
It hurt my heart when he said fps games are not meant for the Wii, when he was using the move trigger in his right hand and the look motion with his left 😭
This is one of those things I always forget about. I think you're the fiest person I've seen play these without the "youtuber" reaction. I just like when people make stuff they are passionate about. I would just say try not to burn yourself out trying to chase the algorithm. No matter what you do it changes a little every 3 years or so.
The Wii was actually awesome for FPS games if you got the controls setup properly. You need to make the sensitivity ramp up the closer to the screen edge you get, maxing out when off screen so you turn around instantly. Setup properly you can aim like a NES duck hunt zapper and just flick the cursor off screen to spin around.
my guy, unless you are left-handed, you had the wii remote and nunchuk in the wrong hands 😂. FPS games were actually great in wii in my experience,The aiming felt like light-gun games with a crosshair.
I am left-handed and if I used the nunchuk, I hold it in my left hand and the wiimote in the right hand. Why? Because I always had the movement stick or pad on my left side (SNES, GB, N64, etc.). It is not a left-handed or right-handed thing, it's more of a what is more comfortable for yourself or how you got trained using things. I use the PC mouse with my right, because I always saw that everyone else did it and it was always placed on the right side. So this must be the way using it, right? Something what I not understand from right-handed people is, why they have the fork in there left hand, when they use fork and knife? I even saw someone cut there meal with the fork in the left hand, put the knife down to hold the fork in the right and then ate. 🤦 Right-handed people hold the fork and spoon in the right hand to eat, but for some reason switching when they got a knife. And I got asked, why I hold fork and knife as a left-handed wrong. 🤪
@@WarKeineAbsicht And that's my point. Why or for what? For simple forward and back motion (aka cutting)? That can the weaker hand too. You holding, while cutting, with the fork. For that you need strength and if you not side switching, you use your weaker or less skilled hand to balance your food to your moth. But if you only use a fork to eat, you hold it then in the right hand? I did not mystified anything, right-handed use the fork with both hand and that concept is strange to my. It's an upscaling technology from AMD. Used by lots of games and trivially easy to implement, to the point that modders have added it and the superior alternatives from Nvidia and Intel to older games. The way this works is that the game is running at a lower than native resolution (e.g. if your screen is 1080p, it's running at 720p for maximum performance), then upscaled using data from the current and previous frame. The latest version can also insert entirely synthetic frames to boost frame rates, at the price of added input lag. This upscaling is virtually "free" since it uses parts of the GPU that are normally not used for rendering games, but you are sacrificing image quality. Nvidia's (DLSS) and Intel's (Xess) upscaling algorithms use more sophisticated neural networks for upscaling, which means they achieve better results, but DLSS - generally regarded as the best in the business right now, to the point that it can look better than native - only runs on Nvidia cards and while Xess is somewhere in the middle in terms of quality, it comes with a slight performance penalty on non-Intel cards. Its softer output can actually look quite good though. The biggest advantage that AMD's FSR has is that it's open source, which means that it has become a staple of console gaming in particular - and a savior of people stuck with older graphics cards from all manufacturers, since DLSS requires at least an RTX 2000 series GPU and Intel XeSS is supported relatively sparingly by game developers (largely due to how much their dedicated GPUs have flopped). Sony also just introduced their own upscaling algorithm for the PS5 Pro (PSSR - the jokes are writing themselves), which hasn't exactly impressed however. Apple has MetalFX, which is used on iOS for games like Resident Evil 4. Both aren't substantially better than AMD's FSR, producing similarly grainy, artifact-laden visuals, even though the companies behind them are claiming otherwise.

5:58 albeit the switch having "impossible ports" (e.g. witcher 3, hogwarts legacy) i think the reason why it exists in a mobile device and not on the switch is purely that the latest apple chips are way more capable than the switch's which makes it harder to optimize the game to run at a stable framerate. and apple probably paid them a lot to port and optimize it for ios/ipados lmao idk

I'm not surprised at how quickly dancing with an iPad wore you out, but I am surprised at how good your moves were! You were cheated, for sure.
when you started playing RE4 my laptop's fan started running
I like to think that the Rasputin guy in Just Dance is actually dancing to Rivers in the Desert
YEEEAAAH let's go new windowledge 🥳🥳🥳
5:58 albeit the switch having "impossible ports" (e.g. witcher 3, hogwarts legacy) i think the reason why it exists in a mobile device and not on the switch is purely that the latest apple chips are way more capable than the switch's which makes it harder to optimize the game to run at a stable framerate. and apple probably paid them a lot to port and optimize it for ios/ipados lmao idk

Me, reading the video description: 'Cyberpunk 2077? You better not be referring to the upcoming Mac port of that game. I'm really looking forward to that.'
...
Me, later on: 'Ah - Cyberpunk on the Steam Deck. Carry on.'
27:33 damn he smooth with it. I have never in my life seen someone take Just Dance seriously but he is killing it omg. (subscrebded)_
small ass room 😭😭😭😭😭😭
Not sure if anyone else pointed it out but you you were supposed to have the nunchuk in our left hand.. like every controller ever. Would probably had helped out a lot.
I was one of those people who used to play call of duty on the Wii. After a while you would get used to the controls. Good ole days not gonna lie.
Love your videos man! Keep it coming! Can't wait to see you go big!
I have never seen someone play the wii with the nunchuck in their right hand.
God I love subtle foreshadowing (this is an amazing video)
I played Cod4 and Black Ops on the Wii when I was a kid! You get used to the wonky controls, especially when you have nothing else!
Black ops on the Wii was MUCH easier with the sensor on a TV lol. Since you could actually point where you wanted to aim.
sees a man in zero gravity
"why is he falling over?"
🤣
No one talkin about left handed Wii remote and RIGHT HANDED NUNCHUCK?!
I never realized the phones were controllers for just dance 💀 I thought it would be a camera that records you like the 360 Kinect just dance games
After playing all persona games it’s so crazy all these videos use the music and I never realized til
3:40 the biggest solution I typically use is to simply always have a dualshock 4 wireless controller on standby, ready to simply pair to the iPad to use.
i did NOT expect a clip from oregon state university i thought i lost my premium and they started playing local ads 😂
17:56 Conduit was PEAK FPS gaming
I actually remember the reviews for Black Ops Wii being quite good. Blops, Goldeneye Wii, and Conduit were like the FPS holy trinity of Wii.
